I'm sure this behavior is the reason that, when I was hit head-on in a triathlon by a motorist who insisted on entering the course, who then started screaming at me afterwards (forget an apology), they only fined him $35 for reckless driving. In fact, the police wouldn't even come over to talk to me! As for me, I was in excruciating pain for a month while I was trying to increase the range of motion in my knee to 90 degrees. And my bike was totaled of course.
(By the way, I am OK with not stopping at a stop sign on an uphill when there's no traffic there.)

I cut through Rock Creek on my way to my Dad's yesterday, and as I was pulling up to a stop sign, a line of bikers 6 or 7 people long was coming down the hill to my left. It was an all-way stop, and I sat there and watched all of them cruise right through the stop sign like it wasn't there while I was waiting. It was a beautiful day here in DC, so I had the windows down and sunroof open. Trust me, I let those jackasses know how I felt. My girlfriend looked at me like I was nuts. Oh well. Maybe next time they'll consider STOPPING at a STOP sign. I doubt it though.
