Another way to look at it: The Patriots are 1-3 and probably will not make the playoffs. I think they might be freeing up cap space to reload for next season and giving up on a guy that has been injured.
To say Gillmore is trash is not right either. I doubt Gillmore will regain 2019 defensive player of the year ability. But if Gillmore can get healthy he can help a playoff team.
