Sunny, there isn't anybody out there using the word Redskin to refer to Native American as a slur anymore. I don't doubt that at some point in history, it was a slur. But unlike certain slurs that are still used today, nobody is using Redskin as one. You say Redskin and the first thing that comes to mind is DC football. And I still believe it's a vocal minority of Native Americans that oppose the name, and the rest either don't care and there's def.
another minority that use it as a term of pride. They're probably not as vocal about it because of the many issues plaguing the Native American community today that need attention more though.
But the bottom line here isn't how Native Americans feel, whether in support or opposition to the name. Like anything else, it's the almighty dollar. If the Redskins biggest corporate sponsors put pressure on Dan to change the name, and anywhere he tries to go to build a new stadium tells him he will only get tax dollars to help build it if he changes the name, then at some point the name is going to change. Fucking with a rich man's money is the only way you're going to get their attention.
