Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Looking at the rumour mill and team needs, I see 3 scenarios:
1) They up the ante on contract talks and he re-signs. Unlikely given his stance on the FO and medical staff, but money does talk.
I'd also consider firing the heads of the medical and training staff; a) they don't seem that effective anyway and b) because they are far easier to replace than a HOF LT!
2) Talks are going on with teams under the radar and we're waiting out an improved offer. Pats offer a #1, but that's too little, so we wait on them upping the ante (unlikely given Belichik's history, but...), Texans offered Cloweny but he's not enough of a need and contract an issue (so maybe they throw in a pick?), Phins offer a #1 which is tempting but not quite enough. Someone makes a better offer within the next 2 weeks and we take it.
3) Team cuts off its nose to spite its face and TW holds out all season then they are forced to trade him with only 1y on his deal remaining.
Regardless of what they have said to date, they have to consider a trade if they can't get him back around the table on contract talks.
If they don't sort this out soon it's going to be a mess of a season and likely Gruden is gone by end by December (may not be a bad thing). To me, regardless of how it makes the FO look, they now have to trade TW to avoid a repeat of the Bell situation and a blown season. Getting a #1 pick or better now is far better than the Bell scenario in my view.
