I remember being all nervous because a friends dad had taken us and now we be late getting home. We had to stand in a line to use the pay phone to call our folks and letting them know the details. My dad thought I was BSing but eventually let me stay and watch both movies.

Oh by the way the name of the free movie we got to watch first: Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Talk about the best movie night of my life. 2 classics in one shot, we were so blown away by the time my dad picked us up.
Although I'm a pilot, I think Ferris Bueller's Day Off was a better movie. There was just some unbelievably bogus aspects to Top Gun that made all the guys in my squadron just laugh at it. But that's Hollywood.

I hope this new Top Gun will be a little more realistic - I mean flying a fighter is just such an incredible experience. There's no need to over-exaggerate some things - it's cool enough on its own without going so over-the-top. Also, the F-18 is a much better plane than the F-14, and it has much more variety in its missions.
