That's exactly what I told my wife, and it's worked out pretty well. And as for advice, I think that's really how you should handle
everything in a marriage. You have to communicate openly about your wants and needs, and clearly define boundaries that shouldn't be crossed-- like interfering with football Sundays! Of course, you have to be willing to accept and respect her side of that bargain as well. Basically, the keys to a happy and loving marriage are maintaining good communication, and expressing true appreciation and respect for each other.
