Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018

Note that signing Scandrick does not count against the 'Skins in the compensatory pick formula, because Scandrick was released from his contract with his former team, as opposed to left in free agency. The same would apply to Johnathan Hankins if the Skins can get it done.

They would be in line for a 3rd from Cousins, a 5th from Trent Murphy, and a 7th from Niles Paul. They would also get a 5th from Spencer Long but it seems Paul Richardson would cancel that one out.

Scandrick would not count against them. Neither would DRC (who they probably won't sign now), neither would have Muhammed Wilkerson who they pursued, and neither would Hankins, and neither would Pernell McPhee. It's clear the Redskins are embracing a new strategy and I'm impressed, I have to say. They are clearly considering the value of the player AND the value of the compensatory pick.

They're intentionally pursuing free agents who were released so they keep the compensatory selections, at least as much as possible.
