Re: The Redskins Offense

Washington Redskins' run game fails to produce, but shows glimpses - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Five observations about the Washington Redskins' offense after the team's 27-10 loss to the New England Patriots:

* The lack of running game success did not stem from the coaches giving up on the run too quickly. (Nor was it because the Patriots stacked the box. In the first half, I counted one time when New England had eight defenders up -- excluding the short-yardage situation). Down 17 points before halftime, the Redskins embarked on a 16-play drive during which eight plays were runs. On the first drive of the second half, three of Washington's first six plays were runs. And after falling behind 20-3, the Redskins' first play on the next series was a run (for one yard). After that, the score and clock dictated that they throw the ball. They actually had a nice rhythm to their run game on the final drive of the first half, gaining 32 yards on their first seven carries. However, the eighth one lost four yards. One more note: Eight of the Redskins' first 11 first-down plays were runs.
