Re: Junior Galette signs with Redskins (updated)

The Washington Redskins started their homework before the New Orleans Saints even released Junior Galette. Dozens of interviews later, including one with Galette himself, convinced them he was a risk worth accepting, Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan said.

"We did our investigation," McCloughan said. "We were thorough, thorough, thorough. We went to the league office and other players [and coaches] in the league. This guy, we feel very comfortable bringing him on board. Very comfortable.

"I can tell you, when he left my room, the guy was crying, the guy was sweating. He was so excited to be a Redskin. That's passion. That's what I'm looking for: competitiveness, toughness. He has to walk the line and he knows that. If he doesn't, then he's gone."

Washington Redskins did thorough check on Junior Galette, GM Scot McCloughan says

1 - i like that Scot started the background check process before galette was even released. thats some proactive, football-consumes-him type mentality from our GM and I love that.

2 - i love that Scot could connect deep with a player. galette calling us a "properly functioning" organization is odd to hear but im really impressed with Scot.

3 - stunting the growth of 2 2nd rounders in Murphy and Smith is a consideration but TC hasnt even really started yet and injuries can make a lot of "whose starting" decisions. low risk, decent reward situation.

i dont think this guy will be a beast or really play more than 50% of the snaps. i could see him as a specific package type player - 3rd downs and passing plays.
