I learned a hard lesson awhile ago always best to be a wave or two behind technology. If you buy the $500 first gen Xbox One you will be buying it's worst gen of that box for the most money. Same for PS4.

It's not a bad way to go. My friend does the same thing. I'll most likely not be buying a new system this year.
