Does this change anybody's opinion on the situation? I still do not like how they handled the issue. I think they could have handled it better.

It does seem not much stays behind closed doors with the Redskin organization. I remember Chris Cooley coming on the radio saying McCloughan drinking was a big part of him getting canned and they no longer trusted his decision making. It seems there sure is a lot of ex-players with links to the Redskins sharing information that most other teams try to keep private. |
Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
Do you really believe that Scot M. drank on the job here? I know he had issues with that in the past, but it just seems hard to believe to me, that he was showing up at redskins park drunk. Also keep in mind nobody seemed to mind that there are stories of Dan Snyder drinking crown royal in many of his meetings, as well as Bruce Allen having liquor bottles / accessories freely displayed in his office. I believe more than one poster here said that Bruce Allen brushes his teeth with Coors Light..

Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
There is a big difference between having a drink and being an alcoholic. Scot M.'s dependency issues are well documented. I don't think it is out of the question to think he struggled while with the Redskins.

Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
This case settles whether the Redskins had cause in firing him, so if you can’t put 2 and 2 together oh well.

What point are you trying to make? Scot M. did not ever get intoxicated on the job? The Redskin front office are hypocrites if he was canned for excessive drinking while on duty? My point was neither of those. It was the fact that an ex player who is employed by the team came out and said Scot M. was canned because of drinking. Whether or not that is true, is irrelevant to the fact most teams would have done anything to keep that behind closed doors. The old standby like "After speaking to Scot we decided it was time to go in a different direction." , would have been used to retain the dignity of the guy shown the door. |

Snyder owns that radio station, I would not just call that a leak by Cooley. Seems like a bad public relations spin that Snyder had knowledge of or did not deem inappropriate. Someone thinking of coming to work for Washington might have a negative view of how things went down. |
Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
Snyder doesn't own the radio station any more.

Since when? Cooley still is a Redskin employee though since he is on the radio broadcast of the games. |
Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
All this means is that the Redskins were in their rights to fire him. Cooley was the one who started the rumor that he was drinking too much, I'm gonna need some more proof than a former Redskin spouting rumors to believe that was the reason.
Either way, I've since moved on. Best of luck to him elsewhere. |
Re: Redskins win arbitration hearing against McCloughan
At this point who really cares? Scot had a great vision and got us on the right path, but he also drafted Matt Jones and had several other misses. He wanted to draft Mariota and took Alex Smith over Rogers. At the end of the day he isn't any better than what we had in the building as far as talent evaluating goes.

Cooley is Snyders mouthpiece. It was a dick move by Cooley to say that shit on air. |
