Re: RIP Amy Winehouse
I agree with the sentiments expressed above. And here I thought smoking crack made you live longer. You learn something new everyday.

Re: RIP Amy Winehouse
Really sad. Thoughts and prayers are with her family. But like the OP says, not surprising. :(

Re: RIP Amy Winehouse
I am sure assuming that she died from a drug overdose, but has their been any confirmed cause of death?

Re: RIP Amy Winehouse
Real sad to hear the news. Big fan. Was hoping to see her when ever she came back to do a US tour.
Seen a good bit of her shows on video, without fail she would have to step off stage for a few seconds every few minutes, one time she didnt even bother and just pulled a lil bullet (coke snifing device that allows for quick bumps with no spill) from her bee hive hair, turned her head and took a bump . . . at a show she knew was being videotaped for production. Sad but not unexpected. |

Dumb statement. Drug addicts deserve pity. Terrible disease. |

I cant help but think its kind of funny when people call drug and alcohol abuse a disease. Its like lets say you were dying of MS and someone said yeah i know how tough that is, my dad had a disease he died of.... he was a cocaine addict. Its got to be hard on your family too. I think people label drug abuse a disease because it makes it easier for them to apply pity and cope with a friend, family member, or famous person that abuses drugs. Either way i feel bad for Amy Winehouse and her family and wish them well. I was a fan of her artistry (i also think its funny when people call singers artist) and i am sad she died. Who knows maybe it will turn out that she didnt even die of drugs. I saw Nick Swardson stand up (on my tv) over the weekend and thought this was pretty funny too: Nick Swardson - Alcohol Poisoning - Video Clip | Comedy Central's Jokes.com |

I think the argument Saden was trying to make is that people suffering from drug addiction are more culpable in their own affliction than people battling something like MS. I think that's pretty hard to argue with, since drug addiction involves an at least ostensibly voluntary behavioral component, whereas MS does not. But to then conclude that a brilliant and talented drug addict who dies before she is 30 should be denied our pity because she played a mechanical role in her own demise is, I think, dumb. (And I know Saden said this.) Nice little article on addiction as disease, holla: Addiction: The disease that lies – The Chart - CNN.com Blogs |
