Re: Manute Bol has died
R.I.P. Manute Bol. I know he used to play for the Wizards but he was well before my time, I knew him more for being a good humanitarian and trying to help out Sudan.

R.I.P. Yes he did fight for freedom in Sudan , spent millions of his own $$$ , very brave man ..... R.I.P. |
Re: Manute Bol has died
Manute was drafted by the Bullets back in 1985. I remember when Muggsy was drafted a few years later you had a gentle giant (7'7") and a midget (5' nuthin) what a combo in Washington.
Yes he did a lot of out reach work to help his homeland and the local community. Kidney disease is just horrible. [quote=mooby;707584]R.I.P. Manute Bol. He had a restaurant on H street NW (corridor) near Ben's Chili Bowl.

RIP in Manute. A truly good man.

Re: Manute Bol has died
RIP.. shame that this all happened when he was doing the humanitarian work in Africa (if I'm recalling how the issues came about correctly)

Re: Manute Bol has died
I loved Manute as a player and was even more impressed with him as a person. Little did I know that I also quote him regularly when I make a mistake playing ball. Turn out he coined the phrase "My Bad."

He played for the Bullets. Interestingly enough, the Bullets had both the tallest played in NBA history and also the shortest (Bogues 5'3") at the same time in '87-'88. They also had roles in Space Jam together. Of course I'll remember Bol because seeing him on the court as a kid was a shock...so tall...but millions of people in the world will remember him for his off-the-court accomplishments...which is the way life is intended to be lived. Great man. |
Re: Manute Bol has died
As a kid I had one of those game give away life size "chart your growth" posters of manute with a measuring stick on the side so kids like myself could track how tall they were getting compared to manute. I remember him being polite when there would be fan signings and fan appreciation days.
rip. seemed like a good man. |
