does anyone know?

now that the NFl has agreed to a new TV contract w/ cbs and fox worth 8 BILLION does anyone have a clue how much next years salary cap will increase

Gmanc711 11-08-2004 07:31 PM

I was reading that and wondering the same thing. 8 BILLION Dollars has to have a decent cap increase.

Hey CrazyC... what is a realistic number we could see as the Salary cap next season?

CrazyCanuck 11-08-2004 08:57 PM

I thought I read somewhere that next year's cap was expected to be around $85M (it's $80M this year), but I'm not sure.

It's actually $11.5B as it stands right now with CBS, Fox and DirecTV.

CrazyC: If it is 85 Mill next year how much will that help our FO with the cap? Will it put us out of danger in the future?

I calculate to field the identical team next year will cost right about $85M. We can probably offset any new signings (ie Smoot) by doing some general "housekeeping". So I think we're ok for 2005.

No, but draft pick effects on the cap are usually minimal.

Once again this shows how the Skins dominate the league on cap issues. We may stink it up year after year on the field but we are masters of the cap. They are the only team I have read about that actually went about free agency with the cap increase in mind. Looks like once again they know how to walk the line on the salary cap.

MTK 11-09-2004 08:41 AM

Go cap masters!!

I can't wait til the offseason, that's when the Skins rise to the top!

I've said this before and I think it bears repeating: One of the reasons we have been cap masters is b/c we have been losing. Before any of the FA's we sign reaches the mega-millions of the 4 year of their contracts, they are gone for a prorated cap hit. When the winning starts, we are going to lose some quality players b/c we won't be able to restructure and/or pay for everybody.

I am not saying that we will neccesarily go into cap hell; I just think that cap dynamics differ significantly for a winning team as opposed to a losing team.

I like the part in the TV deal that allows the last 7 weeks for the NFL to shuffle TV schedules so important games can be prime time, whether that is Sunday or Monday night. Perhaps ABC will stay on board now for MNF. Last night's game was good, but we've had some duds this year and the last 2 years. If it weren't for betting or fantasy football, I wouldn't watch half of these MNF games.

I can't disagree more. The economics of the cap dictate that EVERY team in football turns over at least 1/3 of their roster a year. Teams like New England have tons of new players every year and still win. Whether you're a cap master or not has nothing to do with winning. I'd say the Skins are the best at the cap in the league because they consistently acquire new players and seem les stymied by the cap than other. teams. Now whether these player acquisitions are wise moves is an entire other matter.

d151b 11-09-2004 12:44 PM

i heard before the season ever started that the cap could go up close to 100 mil. next season

d151b 11-09-2004 02:37 PM

or maybe even 2
