No. But McIntosh has the 2nd most pressure on him and the most on the defensive side of the ball. He has already been given the starting spot without having to earn it. So he has tons of pressure on him. He is on the side that most teams are going to run at. Plus he knowa that if he messes up a proven veteran is behind him. Not to mention what all we gave up for him.

I disagree with your statement that Rocky hasn't earned the starting spot. The article mentions that he worked harder than any player on the team not named Jason Campbell in the offseason. Both physically and mentally. Hours in the film room, no vacations, spending every day at Redskins park... You know this coaching staff- that type of dedication goes a long way with them.

It's pretty obvious after reading that article that ability was never the issue last year. He just didn't pick up on the nuances of the D right away. But his physical prowess coupled with how hard he has worked since January equate to earning the job IMO. Plus he finished strong starting the last two games of the '06 season.

I didn't know he had a degenerative condition in his knees. That sucks big time.

haha, maybe they are trying to improve their relationship with the Skins, because I am sure the organization is pissed at the Post and JLC's notorious article last year.

It's great to hear that Campbell and McIntosh have both really worked their butts off this offseason. It goes without saying that both guys are going to be players to watch this season.

I caught the interview on Redskin.com today with Greg W., he stated on the D side no one had worked harder than Rocky, the good mention was Carter, he said they had been working there butts off....GREAT NEWS, could be his time to break out for a big year. I like all the things I'm hearing and reading and even heard right from the players.

On the O side sounds like JC and Cooley are getting very high praise!

Guys I think we truely are in for a special season!

Post isn't very kind to Skins fans. They still haven't updated the Post message board threads since Draft and FA signings of '06. THe sports writers of the Post really suck also. THey seem to have a definite anti Skin slant to them. THe Lions stink real bad, but we do have pretty good sports writers up here. Pro or con, they seem to be more knowledgable. It is nice to hear Rocky really wants to start and step up his game. Now I understand better why they gave him the preseason starting job over Marshall.

Basically, to sounds like it's Rocky's job to lose.

He isn't going to lose it. Or at least it doesn't look like it.

Re: McIntosh Is Taking Big Steps

WE need our young guys to step it up the most. These guys are the ones that are going to get us to the promised land. I can see us unloading a lot of vets in the next 2 seasons either because of the cap or they have downgraded skills. Would like to see us draft a CB or 2 in the early to mid rounds next year, providing we don't trade them away. I can see Rocky being the cornerstone defensively in a couple years if he has indeed really stepped up his game.

I want Rogers to step it up. That is the guy who is really getting on my nerves because we arent hearing any positive things from him. He is dropping balls in practice man. He could have had 9 or 10 picks from my count and he only got 1 and he almost dropped that one.

dmek25:

You asked:

"does the post ever say anything negative about the skins during traing camp?"

The very simple and very direct answer to your question is:

NO!

And neither does the Washington Times nor WTEM hosts nor anyone associated with "Red Zebra". Unless the Skins lose an exhibition game by 6 TDs, this time of year is like the old song "Home on the Range". Cue the music:

"Where seldom is heard
A discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day..."

The Post sports writers suck? The Post probably has the most talented group of sports writers in the country. Do you think it is an accident that Kornheiser in on MNF, Wilbon is doing the NBA finals & Feinstein has written some of the best books on Sports available? Watch ESPN Classic and you will see Post columnists everywhere. Just because they hold Snyder's regime accountable doesn't mean they suck.

They should start Smoot over him and see if that lights a fire. If is doesn't, wait until it makes sense to drop him. What a disappointment he has been...
