Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
The difference between Brunell and Ramsey is that the former fumbles, but doesn't throw many picks, but the latter both fumbles (when hit) and throws picks. Today, Brunell was Ramsey.
Ok, maybe that's simplifying things since Brunell sees the field much better than Ramsey and is more willing to scramble to pick up yards. The point of this thread is notNOTNOT to initiate Brunell vs Ramsey talk again, but initiate fan talk about the emphasis on better protection for Brunell, as well as Brunell's technique protecting the football. This far, Brunell as been miserable at protecting the ball. Hell, Simeon Rice could've pinched Brunell's a$$ and he would've coughed up the ball. |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
I just talked to my brother earlier and he said the same thing. Ramsey would get early turnovers, battle back and narrowly lose the game many times. That's pretty much what Brunell did today.
|
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Gibbs said, the name of the game is protection. That is the number one thing that makes this offense work, and without it, it falls. I thought for the most part, especially in the second half, we made the right adjustments to improve pass protection. As far as those two INTs, they came off of tipped or batted balls, so I don't read too much into those two turnovers although they are turnoves nevertheless.

Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
I don't understand why Brunell has had so much trouble holding onto the ball when sacked. As best as I can recall, it's never a problem during his entire career
|
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Even with the turnovers, the fumbles and forced passes Walt Harris loss this game for the Redskins. He was called for offside on 3 and 4. He was burnt toast all day and he never played up on Galloway or Hilliard which eventually killed him. As Brunell, he played a decent game against the 1# defense in their home and he still was able to move the ball after his mistakes. That's the QB we need at the end of the day. He can win but so many games at the end of the game on the road. Brunell is still the best QB in the NFC East period.

Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
because he doesn't tuck the ball away thats why...thats obvious!!

That's true. |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
The only bad play that can be attributed to Brunell is the fumble. The Two INTs weren't his faults, especially the first one! The Defense really stunk up the joint today!

What defense? |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
I thought it was interesting to see Simeon Rice apply pressure to Mark Brunell on passing plays.
Maybe our defensive ends could try that sometime. |

Yes Brunell put the ball on the ground. One time cooley blew a block and Rice should have never been blocked one on one! As for the Ints one was Pattons falt clearly! The other Rice again was in his face! Never should have been thrown! Lets look at the hole team!!! All the O hasn't protected the ball this season!!! |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
brunell has 3 ints and 3 fumbles (2 lost) in the last 3 weeks :(
|
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Brunell played like Ramsey???????? That's F'ing crazy!!! Yea he fumbled but his INT's were clearly not his fault. The fact that Brunell hits multiple targets, scrambles for key 1st downs, and scrambles to get free to pass is something Ramsey never could do!! I can't belive your questioning a QB who led us to 35pts.. GET REAL!!! :banghead:

Please!!!! Dont do this thread.......brunell had a decent outing...If Patton woulda come back towards ball and catch(Moss)NO pick!!!!!...second, Brunell shoulda audibled(which he said he doesnt dare in THIS weeks conference) in an OBVIOUS man 4 man coverage with man in motion and DB following:mad: !!!! QUICK SLANT not gonna work. Kudos for rice's hustle to make the pick....I'm finding it harder and harder to talk with the Negative fan base here!!!!Please guys...Keep your head up. Im impressed(once again) with our offensive game plan and performance!!!!! Ive told my family...of skins fans with over 2 centuries of devotion among us that we do NOT need to be so aggresive on defense!!! We have the talent on Offense greg!!!!!! We dont need u to win games THIS year. By the way...LOVE the new faces....:spank: |

If you read the original post clearly, I'm not questionning Brunell starting over Ramsey at all. That debate was settled in Game 2 against the Cowboys, as far as I'm concerned. What I am questionning is his technique protecting the football when he's under D-line pressure. Let's count the number of games he has fumbled in. Denver, Kansas City (in the red zone), Giants, Eagles (red zone), and today. So, your stellar QB has fumbled the ball in 5 of the last 6 games. That's a problem in need of correction, wouldn't you say? Not by benching him, but by better QB coaching and protection. |

Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Sorry all. Just i usuall read each week and little chat and just gettin tired of negative "we suck....we rule..." attitude after every game.....Dont you think GIBBS is figuring all this out?....plz #1 Rush "D" in the league and he pounds Portis in their face for a buck fifty!!!!!!...I LOVE his KILL THE HEAD THE BODY WILL DIE approach on this game:coach:

Exactly right. until he stops fumbling, Brunell won't be stellar in my book (even though he's better than Ramsey). You can't cough it up on a such a regular basis without hurting the team. He's got to stop coughing it up. 5 fumbles in the last 6 games. Our record in those 6 games - you guessed it, 2-4. |

I agree with that part. However, that doesn't mean there are aspects of the team that don't suck. The "Protecting the football" aspect of this team is one of the worst in the league...the point of this thread. No one's calling for any heads - just better technique and protection. |

Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
I think we need to ease up on Brunell.
Saying Brunell looked like Ramsey is ludicrous. Ramsey never woulda brought our team back after 2 picks and a lost fumble. But we shouldn't even speculate. Brunell ran for a first down, rolled out well and found open wr's often. Brunell plays like a pro all the time. Sure he makes mistakes, but let's look at the other QB's in the NFL. He's top 10 without a doubt. Too bad our defense made Firemarshall Bill look like his father Sunday afternoon! |

The offense scored 35 points yesterday and that should always be enough to win in the NFL. MB did everything that anyone could ask of a QB. The bottom line is that when called on to secure the game "The U" could not do it. |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Hey guys, cheer up, I believe that Gibbs will do adjustment for all of this mistakes that we had, we are still in the thick of the fight of the NFC east crown, come on we can hurdle this week and take revenge in the two home games coming
just contine to trust skins all the way |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Brunell lost two fumbles, but most QBs are going to drop the ball when Rice pretty much comes clean. The pass protection on the left side was awful. Royal didn't even move on one play, then just stood there as Portis was trying to keep Rice off Brunell. The two INTs we not really Brunells fault. Patten has to come and get that ball instead of waiting for it to get to him. And the screen pass, maybe shouldn't have been thrown at all, but it bounced right into Rices hands. Brunell played a very good game though. In the second half he drove us down the field time and time again, against the NFLs #1 Defense. And we were winning the game late. Brunell is a fighter, thats for sure.

Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
I think we need to ease up on Brunell.
Saying Brunell looked like Ramsey is ludicrous. Ramsey never woulda brought our team back after 2 picks and a lost fumble.
A lot of you seem to have a short memory. Of course Ramsey and Brunell don't play the position exactly the same, but Brunells game mirrored at least half a dozen games that Ramsey played as the starter. He would play shakey early, settle down and make some good throws, and battle back to within a point or two and come up just short at the end. I specifically remember and Eagles and Giants games two seasons ago where this happened. Now no one is saying Ramsey should be starting over Brunell, but when did it become a crime to point out Brunells mistakes? Tell me his fumble on the six yard line had no effect on the outcome of the game. Explain to me how attempting three 30+ yard passes in a row, from 1st and 10 with 48 seconds left was smart. As I said, no one is saying Ramsey should be starting over Brunell, but to act like he had a perfect game is ridiculous. |

I'm sorry but everytime he gets hit he coughs it up...and those ints werent his fault huh??? he forced the ball 2 times when moss clearly wasnt open..The Eagles game would have never been that close ..remember the fumble before half? he wins games but every game we have lost his fumbles have been a factor.... hell i will say it he has playing well AT TIMES but all the turnovers ..... I mean its ptiful everytime he gets hit its sad he coughs it right up... |

Brunell has had a quality season to this point, I just don't see the point in speculating about "WWRD" (What would Ramsey do?) after every loss.

You nailed it. Line Protection must improve. and Brunell has to stop fumbling it. I suggest crouching down in turtle position when a D-lineman breaks loose and comes towards him. LOL |

Brunell does have to do a better job of protecting the ball, but you can't discount what he's done for this team so far this season. I'm still on his bandwagon! |
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
The fact we put up 35 pts against the league's #1 D says a lot. I'm not sure why we're complaining about the offense. We might have had more if the refs had the decency to give us a good spot on Portis's 3 & 2 run. My concerns lie with the defense.
|
Re: Today, Brunell looked like Ramsey
Brunell was fine yesterday. The fumble was bad and maybe the 2nd INT was his fault but all in all he played a solid game again.
Blame the D, or blame our O line that insists on letting one opponent cause havoc in our backfield all game. At least this week I had heard of the guy before (Rice). |

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!! Patton blew that pass up!!! He had way more then the Skins needed for a first down. He was lazzy or what ever!!!! He has been in this league or played football to long NOT to know this!!! AS for the D I like aggresive play but DB should never let WR's get behind them!!! |
