John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=2217806
ESPN's John Clayton has picked the Redskins to win the NFC East. He largely bases this prediction on the NFC East's remaining strength of schedules. Discuss here. |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I love hearing his comments about the Eagles. How sweet would it be if they got knocked out of contention in the next 3 weeks. I knew Clayton and his mouth foam were good for something.

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I've always thought Clayton was a closet 'skins fan. Even in our previous dismal seasons he really seemed to stick up for us. Either way, I hope hes right!
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I just hope he is right about everything. I would love to see us win the division and both the cowgirls and eagulls miss the playoffs entirely!!
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
why is clayton always picking us?? I don't value his opinion after a while. Now if pasta belli said we were gonna win the division i would say it actually meant something. THis means as much as SI saying we would be the only team from our division not to go to the playoffs
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
clayton's just a football nerd, i'd say he's probably one of the least biased analysts, though he can be annoying to watch.
i think he was one of the few to say the skins had a shot in the offseason, most of the analysts decided we were 4-12 to 6-10 fare... |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
Not two weeks ago, most of the smart money picked the Skins as the Least of the East. :Flush:
Football isn't played on paper. It's played on television. Go get 'em, Skins. Hail! |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I certainly hope he's right. If so, it's going to be a dramatic turnabout for the team from a year ago. Actually, we can probably say that right now.
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
The guy's a geek, but he doesn't seem to consider himself bigger than what he covers. That alone deserves respect when viewed in comparison with the Peter Kings, Dr. Z's and Pasquarelli...

I'm sorry to hear that you actually put any stock in what Pasta Belly says. It's a shame really. |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
Clayton knows football, geek or not. I think he's right, though. Skins can win this game against the Bucs and beat the Chargers at home. It's a long flight from San Diego for a 1pm kickoff (10am PST).
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I read that....I can see that....or last 3 games or against Division foes and 2 out 3 is at home....I can see that
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I think a big factor so far is that we are the only team to win a division game on the road. Hopefully we can beat the cowboys and giants at home near the end of the year. [Begin winning rant] Shit, I would love the wild-card, but i want to win the division!!! I want it all for our burgundy gold. [End winning rant]

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
People can say anything. And they do.
Doesn't make a difference come Sunday. I hope Clayton is right. Let's hope Joey T is right! But honestly let's take it humbly and 1 game at a time. Predictions are for TV, reality gives great pain and great joy. |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
Hey, the schedule does look in favor for us. And just keep winning the home games. Visions of '99. WIN this division! :biggthump

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
is it just me or does Clayton look like the "mmkay" guy from south park?
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
You're right there.
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I think Clayton's analysis is very sound. We have a huge advantage going into the stretch - playing 2 of 3 division games at home. If we can preserve our home field advantage at FedEx we ought to - at a minimum - sweep the boys and split the iggles and giants. And this year that might just give us the best record in the division, which I think will count for a lot at the end of the season.

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
That's all good, but I will be happiest if the Skins follow up a good victory agianst the Buzzards with a thorough thrashing of the Buccaneers.

Please don't tell me you actually are yearning to hear Pastbelly to say nice things about us? If you are - (1) you're going to be a very unhappy man, and (2) you overvalue Pastbelly's insight into the NFL. |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
One game at a time baby. We need to foucs on Tampa and not the rest of the schedule. I could see us losing every one of those games for some reason or another. Not saying we will lose all of our last games but I mean every game is losable. Plain and simple if we stay healthy an continue to play the way we did in the first half we have a reasonable shot at 5-3 or 6-2 in the second half. I think 10-6 probably gets us in so we just need to keep on keeping on.
|
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
i agree. either we'll win the division and nyg gets the WC or vice versa. maybe some good will come from nyg smashing us in that we'll really be out to get them when they come to DC. if we can take these next 2 then we are in excellent shape. go skins.

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
I just enjoy that Dallas has a tough schedule.

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
The Skins have had a brutal schedule so far, look at the records of the teams they've played:
Bears 5-3 Cowboys 5-3 Seahawks 6-2 Broncos 6-2 Chiefs 5-3 49ers 2-6 Giants 6-2 Eagles 4-4 Only one slouch in the bunch and 4 division leaders!. One thing's for sure, this team will be battle tested by the end of the season. To be 5-3 at this point is an impressive accomplishment in my opinion. |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
One of my FAVORITE things about our new found competative team is respect from the league. They no longer regard us as a High school team.
Listening to a (very knowledgeable) local sports guy in SW Florida. His PM program yesterday was bombarded with Tampa Bay predictions for this weekend and an ass kickin' for the Skins. Even though he is a huge TB fan, basically he said IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. He iterated that the skins have played a much tougher schedule and won on the road against all playoff caliber teams, except one-which we slayed! That team in turn beat TB. he also mentioned this would be TB's biggest challenge this season. He detailed many other things such as newbie QB, poor blitz handling by TB. Blitz happy Skins, etc. etc. It was a joyful PM drivetime for me yesterday! It's a great time to be a Skins fan!!!!!! |
Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
Hmmm, poor blitz handling. I like the sound of that.

Re: John Clayton picks Skins to win the NFC East
4-3 against winning teams, 1-0 versus scrubs... if we had an easier schedule (not playing 12 over 500 clubs), we'd be romping... how things are going currently the schedule is going to cosst an nfc east team the 2nd wildcard and possibly knock out a playoff worthy afc west team as well.

1) we are 5-3, it is impossible to be a unhappy man 2) Pastafruit is an idiot i think a third option is in play here |
