Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Not a day for the Redskins or even ex Redskins as Smoot and Bailey were burned multiple times today. Pierce was the only notable story of the day and perhaps honorable mention to Hasselbeck getting in the game. Brad Johnson looks to finish out the season in MINN as the starter as it appears Culpepper has MCL damage. In other news ex Redskins coach Norv Turner won an important game for the Raiders today... :vomit-smi

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
I'm sure that Pierce was just touching himself laying in bed last night to the score...

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Great for Pierce, he finally has his revenge.
I kinda lost some respect for him how he talked up how he was disrespected by the Skins all week. If that's what he needed to do to get himself pumped up, fine. But deep down he knows the real deal. The Skins gave him a very fair offer and in the end he jumped ship for a small difference in money. I'm not hating on that, by all means go after the most money you can get, but don't act like the Skins offer was a slap in the face. |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Smoot was just totally embarrassed. I'll cut Champ a little slack for being less than 100%, but Smoot just got totally schooled by S. Smith.

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
I definitely know what you're talking about. It wasn't like they offered him nothing.

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
I wish we had Smoot back. Maybe he couldn't blitz well but he's much better than Harris in coverage, tackling, and durability. Harris is constantly getting run by on these long runs.

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
I could care less what Champ Bailey and Fred Smoot did yesterday. All I know is, Champ Bailey’s team won the game and the Vikings are headed nowhere. However badly they did, Walt Harris and Shawn Springs were part of the most bumbling, inept, ill-prepared bunch of buffoons that ever took the field in the history of the National Football League.

Thats why we have Carlos Rogers. He's a much better tackler than Harris, and hits alot harder. Ade Jimoh may even hit harder than Harris..... |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Harris was horrible yesterday. He got consistantly beat, and the one play (where he was going for the strip rather than the tackle), he was getting pulled around like the metaphoric "bandwagon" of yore.
Here's a question. Why weren't there other tacklers swarming that receiver while Harris was getting dragged ten yards? Harris isn't without blame, but I recall this defense being a little less complacent. |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
On SportsCenter this morning, they showed footage of Smoot on Smith, and Smith just flat out schooled him. Steve Smith should have his jock strap bronzed and sent to Smoot...
Yes, our defense couldn't tackle a snowman yesterday. On the Shockey TD, LA went high and whiffed, and the other 2 on the goalline both went high. There isn't a damn player in the league that can bring Shockey down at the shoulders. |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Seemed like everyone was going for strips yesterday instead of wrapping up and making the tackle.
Yesterday was just a debacle on both sides of the ball. Hopefully it will serve as a wake up call. Blowing out the 49ers was probably the worst thing to happen heading in to a game like this. |

I agree Harris looked pretty bad yesterday. Misreading routes and overpursuing. It was the worst game I can remember from him, but that goes for most of the team. |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
they must have gotten cocky or something. to lose 36-0 in a key nfc east game means you didn't prepare, and didn't show up.

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Did it occur to anyone that we have three ex Chicago Bears on the right side of our defense? Walt Harris, Philip Daniels, Warick Holdman. none of the three played very well. While Smoot and Champ were beaten like drums yesterday, they are two defensive players that we drafted who departed and are playing for other teams even if it's not very good at times. I feel it's worth noting that unless LaVar starts playing regularly in a starting role, we only have one player we drafted starting on the defense. Sean Taylor.

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
pierce looked really good yesterday...much better than marshall has looked all season :(
|
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
well...lavar is pretty much starting now, so that would make 2 :)
|
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Marshall had some good plays on Sunday, especially on the screen he sniffed out and beat the ball carrier to the spot where the screen was being set up.

yes, but pierce was around the ball all day, making tackle after tackle. i think we really miss his presence in the defense  |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Yes losing Pierce was extremely unfortunate in my opinion, but a product of salary cap which stinks. I heard he was really upset about the ordeal and keeps up with Redskins players/friends. :) He was a great quarterback for the defense, something we might be missing this year! :) Teams need that, like John Lynch to the Bucs..... (when he played there)

Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Pierce wasn't worth the price the Gmen paid for him, same with Smoot.
I'll take Marshall Arrington and Washington. Next time at Fed Ex the Gmen won't have any curse of a dead owner. Just the wrath of a HOF coach. |
Re: Champ, Smoooot burned!!!
Ha, ha. Well said. Pierce really isn't incredible, just good. And all those comments about Harris not being able to tackle. Bologna. Harris is usually a sure tackler. He generally plays lose coverage to make up for below-average speed; he then closes quickly on the ball and makes tackles. Last game was just bad for him (and the defense as a whole). I'm counting on GW to get them to bounce back.
