Season over?
vote and discuss

Re: Season over?
no i havent given up on the season. i never really give up on the season, but that was the single worst performance i have ever seen. dropped passes, fumble after fumble, no first downs forever. if we lose next week...gonna be near impossible to make the playoffs
|
Re: Season over?
Not yet -- all I'm going to say is if this offense starts to regress back to where it was last season we need to start being worried. We came out and played abysmal, but that happens sometimes.
|
Re: Season over?
THis season ain't over by a long shot. They had an unforseen force against them today with the whole Mara thing. They'll regroup and "Git er dun".
|
Re: Season over?
nope
No gravity challenged persons of the opposite sex doing any opera around here bro. |
Re: Season over?
Not yet. I wonder who voted no though? It's not like we have a losing record. We can still finish out the season at 13-3. Even though that's about as likely as SF winning the Super Bowl, i still have faith.

Re: Season over?
I'm going to watch and root for us every remaining game this year, but I voted "yes, the season's over as fas as playoffs are concerned" for the following reasons:
1. O-line cannot run block for Portis. 2. We're thin at the D-line and our front 4 cannot pressure the QB. I still stick by my previous prediction of 9-7, but we will miss the playoffs. The Eagles should be beatable next week if we can run the ball on them like Denver did today, but we can't. The Biggest disappointment is how we don't run plays designed for Portis. We took a big-play fearsome back and have turned him into a non-factor. No decent defensive team fears our running game. |

I don't doubt that the G-men were super-motivated today by what transpired over the previous week, and I think we will beat them in the re-match. However, we have startling weaknesses on run blocking and the D-line, and it will cost us the playoffs. |
Re: Season over?
I haven't given up on a decent season, but it'll be very tough for us to make the playoffs. Every team we play from here on out will study today's film to learn how to shut us down and exploit our defense. Next Sunday's game is a must-win situation.
I thought today's game would show what kind of team we were. Now I hope it was merely a fluke. |
Re: Season over?
I agree with Daseal on this one. I think this season is far from over and every team is entitled to an off day and this one was definitely ours. I mean Miami stomped all over Denver the first week of the season and look what Denver has done since. I think the Giants did come out and played more intense than what we did and they had a great defensive game plan that really frustrated us.
|
Re: Season over?
I too will be faithful to the end but this team is not a playoff team.Defense cant stop good runners.Offense just not there.
|
Re: Season over?
No, the season isn't over. This was a tough, tough loss, but geez...we're only seven games into our season.
This type of loss for us was a fluke. Plain and simple. |
Re: Season over?
No it isn't over. lets not go crazy. we have a winning record and are only 1 dumb game behind. I think we can win our next FEW, i really do. eagles at home. Bucs with QB problems. Raiders Chargers at home, 4 easy games into a 3 game division stretch. I see us doing well until the 3 division games

Now a team can study all day and all night but if the Redskins don't turn the ball over they simply will not lose. In every game we have loss, we turned the ball over. Lets wait and see whose healthy enough to play and what the play calling is next week. I loved the play calling in the Denver, Kansas City and San Francisco games and I expect this team to be well-grounded after this loss. |
Re: Season over?
Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you lose big. Good teams find ways to gain strength and bounce back. It's a gut check time, but this is week 7 out of 16 for us. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
We aren't as bad as this loss made it look, though we aren't as good as we looked against the 49-ers, as Williams said. Let's hope the loss lights a fire under them. 4-3--how could the season be over? And I have faith that Gibbs, Williams, and the rest will find a way to fix the problems. |
Re: Season over?
I would feel alot worse about the rest of the season if I really thought we showed up to play today. Make no mistake about it, if this team just dosent show up to any other game this year, they will get their asses whooped just like they did today. I really dont think today was a refelction at all of how we are as a team. Honestly, I cant really take anything from this game, because I just dont think that was the Washington Redskins out there. I think we'll be able to get a better grip on the rest of the season after next weeks game against Philadelphia.

Well, I certainly don't think the Xmas-eve match-up will be a walk-over. It is 8 weeks away and that is an eternity in football. Today's win was great, a great atmosphere at the stadium, a great tribute to Wellington Mara, his granddaughter sang the national anthem. She is cute, looks like Nieve Campbell and the girl can sing, his other grandchildren were on the field with her. The Offense and defense looked like well-oiled machines today. Those of you who remember me from the old days know I am not want to savior victories for too long. I'll enjoy reading the papers tomorrow and talking about the game with my students, but by tomorrow afternoon I am thinking about San Francisco. As for the skins, it's games like this that test the leadership and heart of a team. A good team looks at the films, gets disgusted, learns from it, and comes out hungry. A bad team feels sorry for themselves and continues to glow in the San Fran game. Either way, this could be a turning point for the club. They get back to work and put together a good season, or they completely go in the tank. As for blame, look at your lines. The Giants were only rushing 4 most of the day and still got to Brunnell and Ramsey, and Tiki cut through the D line like a hot knife through butter. |
Re: Season over?
Today was as pathetic as it gets, but over? Come on...nothing is over. As bad as it was when you boil it down it was one road game within the division. We are not supposed to win all the road division games. I think the issue is more the way they played...but one loss is still only one loss whether it's by 1 point or 101 points. Even if they lose next week it's still not over...

Even without the turnovers, the skins still lose convincingly. 36 points? No. But the Giants were having no trouble moving the ball and the skins did nothing on offense when they could hold onto it. |

Hate to say it, but I agree. This wasent like last year, when we turned the ball over but still put up a fight from start to finish. To me, from the start of the game you could just tell the skins werent in it. Even without the turnovers, I dont think we would have won today. Or even come that close for that matter. |
Re: Season over?
Have not voted yet, still sitting on the fence, but that game was reminiscent of the infamous 'Body-bag' Game against the Eagles. Although I think that Redskins team had more heart for I remember Brian Mitchell lining up at QB and tanking direct snaps for runs and I think they at least managed to score. This was a bad game...now the whole team needs to listen up to the coaching staff...should be an interesting week of practice, at least for those physically able to practice.

Re: Season over?
If this would have happen in week 12, it wouldn't really matter, one let down that late in the season, but in week 7, the season is going to be a wash....look at the record 4-3, next week Philly, which is a team that dont run, but trust me, Andy Reid is thinking were gone run the ball, and we stunk up against the 31st ranked D........if we walk away with 8 wins we will be lucky...........Playoffs?...I hope no one said Playoffs
|
Re: Season over?
The season is far from over. Yeah we looked horrible today. How we come out next week will tell alot about where we are as a team. We have shown that we can play good sound ball. We just need to stop evaluate what happened and correct our mistakes and go forward and beat the Eagles. Then worry about the next game. If the skins start playing for the playoffs now it will be over we need to take one game at a time and forget all the games in the past.
|
Re: Season over?
Far from over. Things change from week to week. Tampa lost to the 49'ers today. This league is crazy. We're better than 36-0 and everyone here knows it. I think we will see a much better effort next week. Doesn't mean we'll win, but it will be a much better effort.
|
Re: Season over?
I believe there are 10 games left to the season, including games against every NFC East team at home at FedEx. The Skins are 1-1 in the division. So, the East title is within reach. The wild card can be had with a 9-7 record.
Throw out BOTH the Giant game and the 49er game because the Redskins ain't THAT good and they ain't THAT bad. Settle down Redskins. Go out and make the play! |
Re: Season over?
it was so bad i have no idea what went wrong... turnovers, but that's nto enough... brunell throwing us vintage from last year... nagging injuries... still, 36 points down?
i'm hoping this is a one time thing. |
Re: Season over?
How can it be over when we still got games to play?
We may have lost a terrible game....but there are 9 more games to play, that's plenty. Now, If we go on like a four or five game losing streak....then it may be time to call it quits for this season.... |
Re: Season over?
I voted no, but after how the team had seemed to come together since the last 4 minutes of the cowboy game, this game was extremely depressing and frustrating to watch. Why in the hell can't the defense stop the run outside the tackle box? All the missed tackles, the dropped passes, and the piss poor protection brought back frightening memories from the Turner/Schott./Spurrier regimes just when the team was making incredible strides to gaining respect again. The season is not lost if they rebound against the Eagles cuz this could and should ignite an inferno under the skins but it could also easily prove a crushing blow, the next couple weeks will show us which. All facets of the game were terrible today and they definitely have an ass load of tape to review, but I'm glad Ramsey didn't do much cuz if a qb controversy came out of a game like this then the season would definitely be screwed. I hope to high heaven that Gibbs and Co absolutely tear into every single player who saw action today and get them ready to exploit all of the weaknesses of the Eagles that the Broncos took advantage of today. I believe the team can bounce back from this and if this team finally plays with a bit of an attitude, we could see the team we've been hoping to see since Gibbs version 1.
:httr: |
Re: Season over?
Moss dropped passes and fumbled, Cooley fumbled, Brunell threw a pick, Arrington missed a TD saving tackle, Sean Taylor missed tackles, Betts fumble on KR, OL couldn't block all day run or pass. Everyone made mistakes and played horribly. No way I've given up. As redrock skins said niners beat the 5-2 Bucs today. Maybe the Bucs will trade us Rice for Ramsey??? Doubtful. Anything can happen on any Sunday. We have a good team that made mistakes from our stars all the way down.
The center of the OL seemed to collapse far too often today for any kind of offense to perpetuate itself. 1 positive of the game I thought was assuring everyone that Ramsey still enjoys spending way to much time on his back. Next week Prime Time against the failing Eagles @ home. Can't wait, GO SKINS!!! |

i'm hoping this is a one time thing.
i was watching Dallas beat the sad Cardinals, and as I kept peeking over to the Redskins game it was the first time I have ever thought that the NFL was fixed. 36-0?!?!?! What!!! |
Re: Season over?
Not even close to over.
|
Re: Season over?
If the season were over today, both wild card teams would come from the NFC South, where three teams are tied at 5-2.
I guess all that talk about how good the NFC East was premature. |
Re: Season over?
I can't even comprehend how anyone can say the season is over.

Re: Season over?
I can't even comprehend how anyone can say the season is over.
I agree. Way too much football left in the season. |
Re: Season over?
The Giants looked as good as they are ever going to look yesterday. There were prepared to play, and inspired to do so.
The Redskins looked as bad as professionals can look. We gave up huge plays on the ground, our pass defense was below average, our offense was putrid. Everything that could go wrong, did. This was "the Perfect Storm" of crappiness. We will never look as bad as we did yesterday. This team is better than they looked. Maybe not as good as we'd all hoped, but certainly better than that. |
Re: Season over?
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor????????
No, because it was the Japanes who bombed perl harbor.

Re: Season over?
firstdown - see Famous Animal House quotes
The Giants were better prepared, had a better plan, and stuck to it. The Skins were ill-prepared, abandonded their plan from the word go, and played like this was their first time ever on the field. You better believe the Skins will work their asses off to prepare for the Eagles this week. The matchup is favorable, since the Eagles now throw 8 out of 10 plays, and the Skins own the #1 pass defense. How can anyone vote to say season over, when the goddamn Skins have a winning record?!?!?!?!?!? Even non-Skins fans have to say that, with the Skins outplaying their opponents in 2 of 3 losses on the road, that they have a chance to go 6-3, 5-4 and make their way into the playoffs. Gimme a break. |
Re: Season over?
I voted no, it was the day before halloween I think Gardner was dressing up as Skins players and dropping everything that came his way. It was just a day that the Giants were fired up and the Skins just did not match their level of intensity. It had to be hard for an opposing them to watch all of the pregame stuff and get fired up to beat them. I think the stuff with all the family on the field before the game should have been done during half time. Its not realy fair to make the other team participate in the morning of the other teams owner. They should have just allowed a moment of silence before the game. I'm not making any excuses we played realy bad, but it has to be hard to get fired up as the grand daughter and all his other granchildren are out on the field morning their loss before the game.
