Even Theisman going against us.
The man that said we could win the super bowl this year doesn't think we can beat Dallas.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/features/talent Simmons says we'll win: Redskins (+6) over COWBOYS Feels like a three-point game to me ... as well as a three-nap game. Is anyone else getting sleepy just thinking about this game? |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
yah i saw that, sucks doesn't it
|
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
They'll all be shocked by tommorrow night. It's a shame that no one will go against the grain on this one. I know the odds are against us, but somehow, some way Gibbs coaches his best game tommorrow night.

As much as I'm sure the Skins are going to lose, I'll still watch it, hoping for a miracle. I don't think I'll be sleeping through it. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Joe can be wrong you know, after all does anyone really expect his Super Bowl prediction is going to come true?
I think it's going to be a close game. I think both teams are similar, strong defenses and running games, both led by veteran QBs. I don't see where they are markedly better than us. Should be a tight game as always. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
I think after watching San Diego and Chicago today, we can get a better idea of this game. I think Chicago's defesne will prove to be a very very tough one, altho their offense is going to suck. San Diego we can see what they do/dont do well, and match dallas up that way.

Re: Even Theisman going against us.
I mean we haven't won in Dallas since '95 - I can't blame him on this one.
I still think the Redskins will take them down. |

That's exactly why I see this game as a low scoring dogfight. Williams will know how to confuse and attack Bledsoe. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Matty, a look at the scoreboard shows where we're different. The Cowboys scored many TDs and we didn't score one. SD's defense isn't great, but it certainly isn't bad. I'm worried about getting TDs. I think we can get FGs. In good news, Bledsoe DID throw some balls to questionable places and SD didnt take advantage, so hopefully we can do that.

Re: Even Theisman going against us.
dallas can win but they can't score over 18 points
I am looking at a score of 13-6 redskins. |

You can't predict the Cowboys success against our team with the success they had against a lesser defense. If that's the case, we can look at how many points we allowed and how many points the Cowboys allowed. It's a big difference. Our defense #2, our offense #16. We gained 323 total yds. More than the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys did in total yds. Without penalties and stupid turnovers by the special teams, we win this game. In this game, if we are going to be successful in moving the ball, Gibbs can not rely on Portis as he did last week. The short dump-offs and the screens allow Santana and David to go one on one with Newman and their other CBs. Get Sean Taylor involved early on in the game on offense. Dallas is focusing on Cooley and Portis, so throw to Mike Sellers, Rock Cartwright and Thrash. Dallas is not solid in their secondary. This is where San Diego was successful. |

USA TODAY reported our defense as 2# behind Buffalo, and 16# in offense. Yards are accumulated in the process of producing points. To me that's important. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Sunra - we put up tons of yards against the Bears, we won with 3 FG's. It's been our problem last year and so far this year. We're not aggressive enough to punch it in so far. Week 2 is always so important in defining a team, by then the flukes of week 1 can be exposed or get another solid win and make people realize.

Re: Even Theisman going against us.
just a thought, Joe (T.) made that predicton before all the recent turmoil. maybe he doesn't like Brunell, or just the effect of a sudden switch will have during the week.
|
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Good point SUNRA about Williams knowing Bledsoe, I didn't even think of that.
|
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Dude i'd pick the cowboys too. Do you realize that Mark Brunnel is our qb. Our only hope is that Demarcus Ware comes around the outside on the first play of the game and breaks brunnels leg and Ramsey comes back in.
|
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
based on what Chicago's offense is doing today (31 at half) we can accurately calculate that Dallas will score -12 points against us Monday.
|
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
If people are going to judge tomorrow night's game by what happened last week, then you also have to consider what's happening today...at least with the Bears.
The Bears only had one score against us....by us giving them the ball deep in our own territory. Today, the Bears score over 30 points in one half. So, the excuse that the Bears' had a rookie QB, and their offense isn't capable of scoring doesn't fly with me. The Redskins are alot better than what some of you people are giving them credit for. Sure, I know, they'll have to prove it. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
skinsguy - It certainly makes our defense look better, but has that ever really been the question with the Washington Redskins last and this year?

I dunno...with some of the 27-6 predictions that people are giving tomorrow night's game against Dallas, I could see how that might be considered questioning our defense. Maybe they're thinking in terms of our offense not holding onto the ball long enough to give the D a rest. However, again, our offense held the ball quite a long time against the tough Bears defense. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
sigh. nobody discuss. what do we know? just cheer.

I think that's exactly what we need to be concerned about. Turnovers often lead to losses. Even if our offense isn't lighting it up, as long as we don't turn the ball over and play smart football, I see no reason why we wouldn't have a chance. I think Dallas is a good team, but they're not the freakin' world champs! |

just the dueling sigs, all the animosity, and that the only welcome discussions are the ones dissing journalists who diss us.

Hence Brunell starting. We would have lost against the bears with Ramsey in there the whole game. I am starting to understand brunell in there, I give him one game before i go against this decision. tommorrow is a big night for us |

Not sure why you say that? All of us have taken part in the dead horse of a thread discussing Ramsey and Brunell. And we all have discussed our confidence, or lack of, in Joe Gibbs. Maybe the journalists threads seem more welcome because we all mostly agree to disagree with the journalist; if that's that case, you can't expect everybody to agree with QB or coach issues. As far as the animosity, there's none on my end. I'm proud to be a Redskins fan! I enjoy it. I can't help if others aren't enjoying being fans. Finally, the dueling sigs...well, I'm not dueling with anybody, if someone feels I am, that's their problem not mine. |

Dallas also got breaks on penalties which turned a punting situation into a first down, not once, not twice, but 3 times.............that helped. And bad play calling in the red zone....they didn't give the ball to LT and Gates wasn't in the lineup. SD is weak up front no pressure on Bledsoe........ |

I'm talking about our total defense #2 and total offense #16. That's how you assess a team. |

We are aggressive enough to punch it in the endzone. Cooley's TD was called back because of his push off. Our offensive line played much better than last year and I do not expect alot of penalties to hurt their drives. As long as I've been watching football, week 4 is considered the time to see a teams prospect for that season. As far as I've seen from our offense, they have moved the ball affectively. The problem has lied on turnovers from our QB. I don't think anyone could have predicted the Colts to score only 10 points until the third or fourth quarter against the Jaguars. And Philly only scored 10 points as well. How about the great Brett Favre, not able to punch it in and his team settling with only 3 points for a loss. It can only get better for this offense as far as I'm concerned. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
I think we're aggressive enough to punch it in...it's just that we were up against a very good defense. Yeah, we did have a TD called back and another possible TD in which Cooley either ran too short of a route or Brunell under threw the pass (either quite possible.) Point is, we are doing more than running three plays up the middle when we got into scoring territory, so I just believe it was a mixture of a great defense from the Bears, and us finding out our strengths.
I'm talking about our total defense #2 and total offense #16. That's how you assess a team.
if you don't think any other stats matter maybe, but scoring matters to me, as does wins and losses. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
I know I want to get rid of this feeling of uncertainty each week come game time. It's a kind of sinking feeling I never had before when Gibbs was coaching here. It comes from us not being able to score points, and it's miserable after feeling that feeling all last season and this one not starting off much better.
Not being able to score a touchdown in our home opener is misery, and I think that's why we don't see the optomism here that we feel we should. Let's hope tomorrow night is the night we get the blanket off the offense and score some points. If we score twenty one points or more I think we have a good chance at winning. |
Re: Even Theisman going against us.
Chicago after seeing them for a couple weeks, is showing that they may have a powerhouse defense this year, San Diego for all the talk of there defense has not shown all that much over the past couple of weeks, so if San Diego could have a close game with them with a so so defense then we should be able to dominate the Cowboys.
We may not be able to score agianst them offensively real easy, but i can see us scoreing defensively agianst them. |
