Around the League
Wow -- just wow:
Adam Schefter ESPN Sources: Cowboys are trading three-time All-Pro LB Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Parsons and the Packers already have reached agreement on a four-year, $188 million contract. @DavidMulugheta of @Athletesfirst had a hand in the trade and ultimately negotiating the record-breaking contract that includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and makes Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. |
Re: Around the League
Is Jerry tanking?
|
Re: Around the League
From what I see the Cowboys get a DT and 2 #1's . Glad he is out of the NFC East but IMO they let him go cheap.
|
Re: Around the League
I agree. I would have expected a bigger haul than this. I imagine that folks in Dallas are flipping out. (First Luka Doncic, and now Micah Parsons -- I guess Dallas is a place stars want to flee.)
I wonder which other teams were in the running here. I doubt Jerry would have traded him to us for anything. I guess in his old age he forgot that the last team to bounce Dallas out of the playoffs was Green Bay. |
Re: Around the League
Just saw this go across the ESPN ticker. I can't believe that. Really surprised because Jerry usually pays his top players.
|
Re: Around the League
The guy is a 3 time all pro pass rusher and just 26
What the fuck are you doing Jerry? |
Re: Around the League
Parsons and Reggie White are the only two players ever to have 12+ sacks in each of their 1st 4 years in the league. The Packers have to pay Parsons a lot of $, but gave up 2 1st rounders (will likely be at the bottom of the 1st round) and an aging DT that had 1 sack last year.
Jerry -- you got totally fleeced, bro. The Eagles sent Jerry a thank you note (I give them credit for that). The Dallas D was not good last year, and they've now lost their best and most impactful player. We play the Packers on Sept. 11 -- maybe Parsons won't quite be back in game shape by then (I hope). Nice to not have to face that dude 2X/year. The Eagles are going to destroy Dallas in week 1, and you know all the talk will be about Parsons no longer being on the team. |

and Dallas plays the Packers week 4. This will be Micah Parsons month in Dallas sports media

Re: Around the League
Jones states he already offered Parsons the top deal for a non qb in the league and he rejected it. Real games are about to start. I see the trade a bit differently honestly. Kenny Clark is a 3 time pro bowler at a crucial defensive position who is supposed to be great against the rush. He's also durable. Getting 2 1st rounders is no joke at all and should net at least 2 very solid starters and potential superstars.
Could Jerry have gotten more? Maybe but doubtful. He was proactive and got a lot of value for a guy he figured he could not get a deal with. |

But this is Jerry we're talking about, he will find a way to screw it up. We do play the Packers in week 2, but I'm glad to have Parsons out of the NFC East. |

They didn't mess around at all in acquiring Parsons and gave up a lot for him. Division should be very strong now in NFC North. Week 1 getting close. :)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think Dallas may be about the same as last year. They added Pickens, but did not do much to help their D (in fact, weakened it, I think) or their run game. And that injury Dak had was nasty -- I've had friends that have done that and the recovery is long and they never felt that it was quite complete. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if Dallas finished behind the Giants, whose DL is downright nasty and who will have a better QB as well (not to mention another year with Nabers, who's a stud). I really hope we can keep the streak of no repeat division winner alive -- for just one more year before we break it. |
Re: Around the League
crazy news. That's a lot to give up (2 1sts and big money) but it'll probably be worth it (and unlike a lot of backloaded contracts, he's actually going to get all $188m).
Glad he's out of the division. Jerry would have never let him come here, but that would have been kind of nice. |
Agreed. Eagles is the team to beat in this division.
I would say we are the team to beat, with the Giants second. Philly is getting a lot of love while I haven't heard a peep about several real concerns:
1) Barkeley had over 450 touches last year - for an oft injured player that workload won't be repeated, probably due to injury but at least due to limited effectiveness. 2) They brought in a new OC after Moore went to the Saints. Maybe the transition is smooth, or just as likely, there is trouble in Philly land 3) They lost Graham, Sweat, Gardner, Slay and others on the defense 4) Last year as good as they were there were rumblings of discontent. If the team stumbles those rumblings could resurface and get worse. Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk |
Re: Around the League
I think until proven otherwise, it's still the Eagles as the team to beat. No one's played a game that's mattered yet and last year's commanders had some things happen that aren't likely to repeat themselves (4th down % being a key one). Roster wise we're better (I believe), but the schedule this year will be (on paper) quite a bit harder, and I imagine JD's going to not play out of shotgun as much (that tends to be a year 1 thing).
We won't have to wait too much longer to find out. |

We won't have to wait too much longer to find out.
In terms of the schedule being harder, keep in mind that 14 of our games are exactly the same as PHI. So, in division, the schedule strength comes down to 3 games for each team: PHI: LAR,TB,BUF, GB Nov10 WAS: SEA, ATL, MIA GB Sep 11 NYG: SF, NO, NE, GB Nov 16 DAL: ARI, CAR, NYJ, GB Sep 28 When ranking just those opponents I would say Dallas has the easiest then us, then NYG with PHI having the hardest. I included GB because I don't think Micah will be a full threat week 2 but by week 4 he will be. Of course the Rams strength depends on Stafford's health. Like you said, we will find out soon, but for me the Philly love here and around the analyst world leaves out a whole lot of reality. Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk |
Re: Around the League
The nfc east hasn’t had a repeat division winner since the Eagles won in 2001-2004.
So, that’s something. |
Re: Around the League
The league is so hard from year to year,we were one game away from the Super Bowl last year,it’s going to be very hard to repeat that. doesn’t matter who’s favored to win division or how many games we win, repeating what we did last year is going to be very hard.

Re: Around the League
I mean, if the eagles lose their QB or RB for significant time, then they're kind of sunk. Their roster is worse than last year, but I don't think it's fallen off a cliff.
For us, it's how well has JD shored up whatever weaknesses other teams were able to find on tape, how he adjust to being under center a bit more, if the team can keep killing it in 2 and 4 minute situations... just consistency (and on D, better run stopping on the DL and deep coverage). Preseason/TC seemed to be a bit of a mess on offense, so it's a bit hard to judge where the team is at right now (also new OL groupings). After 2 games we should have a pretty good idea. |
