Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
How many years, average per year, guaranteed money
Honestly I thought this would be over by now Do you believe the team is low balling or Terry team is asking for too much? Terry Currently cap number is 25.5 mill this year, franchise tag is like 30 ish I believe next year Think 4 years, 60 million guaranteed of 115 million would be fair and get it done I’m starting to get a little pissed now |

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
its all about guaranteed numbers . . . so i say, 3 years total at 87 Million . . . fully guaranteed . . . and broken down like this:
year 1: 36 million year 2: 30 million year 3 - 21 million (BIG rookie QB contract may start this year) |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Can you imagine Terry’s numbers if he had a half a quarterback or team around him all these years? CReds scenario is perfect imo.
Oh boy.
https://www.on3.com/pro/news/terry-mclaurin-requests-trade-washington-commanders-amid-contract-talks/
Spreading like wildfire. I'm certainly not a fan of trading Terry, but I also don't want to pay him top 5 money on a long term deal either. I think a 3 year extension with an average of around 30 million per year with 60-80 million guaranteed is reasonable. I hope it's not a case of him wanting to be paid like Jefferson/Chase. Love him but he's not on their level. Come on AP, find the middle ground. He deserves to be paid but we also don't want to lock in 4+ years at top 5 money. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
This is not good. Really not good. I am trying to think of instances in which a player requested a trade, didn't get it, and then everything thereafter was just fine. Last year felt like such a breakthrough in terms of the overall culture of the team and organization. I hope these reports are not accurate.
|
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
I like Terry a lot. I think we all do. He has meant so much to this team, franchise, and fan base since he got here. I have to believe the owner, the coaching staff, and even the players all feel the same way too. I can't figure out what is going on here. It's hard for me to believe that they are lowballing him. It's more likely that he is just asking for something that isn't reasonable, which would somewhat surprise me. Actually, them lowballing him and him asking for too much would both surprise me. I thought this was a no-brainer a few months ago, but damn.
Honestly, he might want to stop F'ing around because he's only due $25.5M this year, and he is the only player I would consider using the franchise tag on next year... and that would only pay him about $28M next year. Then what, try to get that long term deal at age 32? Good luck! Surely they are offering him at least $28M per year if not more, right? |

Lamar Jackson and Myles Garrett just did it recently. Browns are a mess so who knows how it affected their locker room but Ravens seem fine with Lamar and vice-versa. It’s just another “move” by Terry and his agent and it’s probably their last one. I’m really curious about what’s being offered and what Terry's asking for |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
JK metcalf is 5/150, but really 3/86.5 and basically all of that 3year (minus a 5m option) is guaranteed.
I'd give TM 3/90, basically the same thing, and that's probably the most fair to both sides (and if you want to call it 3/155 with 65m of garbage money in year 4/5 that he'll never see, why not). he's not a top 5 WR and he's 30 in under 8 weeks. Otherwise let him play out the year, consider using the franchise tag, and his ability to get a big $90m (real) or $160m (fake) deal will be gone. Obviously that'd leave you with an unhappy camper. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
If Terry actually gets traded; we better have a replacement lined up.
I’d give Terry a 2 year 60 million extension and signing bonus to get this year’s salary to 30 million. |

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Any contract being posted up here below the starting point of 33mil/yr on average is straight bullocks. DK has only had three 1,000 yard seasons. Terry has had 5 straight. Ain't no way Terry is taking less than DK. I would suspect it's something like.
4yr/140 or 3yr/105 bringing that up to 35mil avg. 70 mil guaranteed. I can see him getting a lower guarantee because he does turn 30 in September. DK is only 27. |

Wilson's deal 4yr/130M including $90 million guaranteed, per Rapoport, with a $13.75 million singing bonus, a $20 million option bonus in the second year and a $10 million option bonus in Year 3. Wilson had two years remaining on his rookie contract and is now signed with the Jets through the 2030 season. Washington isn't doing a 4yr deal so the ceiling is around 3 yr 96M but i doubt Peters goes that high. If they were willing to do 32+ per year this deal would be done. Clearly they aren't. I think Terry wants the APY to start with a 3 and the team wants it to start with a 2 as for DK's deal Pittsburgh boxed themselves in a corner and overpaid substantially, AP won't be held to their overpay. Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
I see no deal. Terry will come in at some point early in the season. He’s not going to want to miss that many game checks.
We could franchise him next year but I figure we let him walk and replace him in the draft and free agency. I see this as Terry’s final year with us |

https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1951055846063907031 Schefter made a good point - WR's requesting a trade lately hasn't resulted in it happening. Just part of the negotiation tactics. The business side of things gets ugly but it doesn't mean they don't want Terry. Both sides just want a reasonable deal. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Age is the driving force behind the front office unwillingness to come up. After the age of 31 production for number 1s drops. Sure some exceptions
Honestly, you gotta respect the team for holding the line against unreasonable expectations. |

https://www.on3.com/pro/news/terry-mclaurin-requests-trade-washington-commanders-amid-contract-talks/
No one is getting traded , Terry likes what he has here and they love him. A deal will get done maybe not for what he wants but maybe more in guarantee and more in years with a bigger bonus. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Who is being the petty bitch right now? At this point 1 side is being unreasonable. Either the offer stinks or Terry is asking for too much.

Need to know the offers, but I have a hard time if Terry team thinks a bigger offer than DK is reasonable at 29 years old. No 1 WR stats nosedive after age 31. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
McClaurin is not getting traded. This is a last ditch effort by him and his camp to get more out of the Commanders. He has ZERO leverage. Is he, at age 30, going to sit out a whole year? That would be career ending and cost him millions upon millions of dollars. No, he will not do that. If i am the FO i tell him and his camp to take my latest offer, and he not pull the offer on the table and he can play this year on his existing contract and even the next two via franchise tags. Saves the team a bunch of money and there is nothing he can do about it exit quit and walk away from approx. 85 million. McClaurin and his me, me, me attitude he is showing is really put me off and i am no longer a fan. IS he a good player, yes, very! Is he elite, no, far from it. And he is a greedy, greedy, lying asshat!!

Why not give him a 2yr/70mil deal guaranteed? It's short term and satisfies both parties. |

His #s are at least on par with Metcalf's (particularly when considering the crap QBs he had until last year) and he's only 2 years older: Year Yards TDs Yards TDs 24 1096 13 992 5 23 1002 4 1114 8 22 1191 5 1048 6 21 1053 5 967 12 20 1118 4 1303 10 21 919 7 900 7 TOTALS 6379 38 6324 48 And Metcalf wasn't viewed as such an important part of the Seahawks franchise that they kept him. I don't blame Terry for wanting Metcalf money; that doesn't seem unreasonable to me, actually. They've been in the league the same # of years, and Terry has been steady and a total professional during some dark times. I am not saying break the bank here, but anything less than Metcalf's deal is something I would reject if I were him too. (Oh, and Terry has a better injury history than Metcalf.) My $0.02. (Sorry for the formatting -- couldn't fix.) |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
I agree with DK money but I also agree with a shorter term. I'd say 3 yrs, $95M, 65 guaranteed/3rd year voidable or the like. DK won't see all of that $150M, so Terry expecting to make a guaranteed 90+ over the next 3 years in unreasonable. TBH I think we should have re-worked his deal once we signed Daniels and had last year as year 1 of a 3-4 year deal. All this messing around will have cost both sides in the end.

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
There will be no deal. Terry wants over 30 million at minimum and the team likely doesn’t want to go over $25-27 million. There’s a huge gap that will not be bridged.
Terry will miss the opener before likely coming in Week 2. He’ll play out his final year and depart in free agency in 2026. We will get his replacement in free agency or the draft. Yeah, we could franchise him but the franchise value for WR jumps up to at least $30-31 million in 26. So, if we don’t even want to pay that now; doubt we do that next year. So, my guess 25 is Terry’s final year. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
There are several avenues to create a win for both sides, as pointed out in other posts. If Terry really wants to stay here, he’ll accept one of them. AP and Harris aren’t going to be leveraged by TM’s public whining, and they sure as hell aren’t going to start their tenure here by overpaying. We had an owner who lacked discipline and played favorites, f that.

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Isn't Mclaurin already under contract??? Yeah he's in the final year but still. The team doesn't have to do anything. He can either play or sit at home. The team holds all the power. I sorta feel like you get your ass out there w/ your teammates and quit the bullshit. Try and get a deal done while you are doing the job you are paid a lot to do. Or, you can sit your ass at home and pout and not get paid.

I kinda feel the same way. I love everything he brings to the table, but he also plays a position that is one of the easier ones to replace. The main thing is we now have the QB. If you have a truly great QB then that guy makes the wr's around him better. So either sit at home and don't make millions, or get your ass in gear and let's go try and make a run at a SB. |

WR's can be found in the middle, later rounds or in FA. A franchise QB can not. Mahomes gets by w/ different casts of WR's it seems. As does Josh Allen. |

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
The most depressing part is how being 30 is apparently being a senior citizen. Just turned 42 last month. Obviously a different profession but it's still weird.
|
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
Listening to Keim and he is guessing that the team's line is 28 million.
If he's correct, yikes. Also, the more I listen to this interview, the more my love McLaurin drops a bit. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract
So one thing I’ve been wondering - there are reports that Terry requested a trade but I don’t see any statement, tweet or anything else from him (unless I’ve missed it). Parsons was more direct in putting it out there.
Is it possible that there wasn’t such a request, and that neither Terry or his agent are dispelling this as a way to test whether pressure will be created? And AP might not want to sent the record straight for concern that it might prompt such a demand. The differences between Terry and the guys who demanded a trade (Parsons and Garrett) seem consequential somehow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't think he wants to be traded, so would make sense to kind of do it quietly. McLaurin is one of my 10 favorite players of all times. Possibly even Top 5. It's going to suck if they can't work this out. If the team is offering less than 29 million, can't blame Terry. 29 to 30 million it seems like a push. But if McLaurin wants more than 30m this is all on him at this point. |
