Washington trades for Deebo Samuel

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to send standout wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday night. Fifth rounder? No brainer |

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
I didn't like the idea of the trade last week because it looked like it would be too expensive. This isn't too expensive. Way to go AP.

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Yes for the 5th. Always been a fan of deebo

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Terry has a legit WR playing opposite of him…big.
D Cordinators can’t roll coverage to Terry anymore |

5th rounder? Sign me up for that all day let’s go

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
He's always hurt, past his prime and kind of a whiner. This isn't the Debo of a few years ago. Idk, I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.

Pretty much where I'm at. I don't care about the 5th, but it's $22MM. Maybe an extension to make that number closer to $12 and I'll like it more. This team needs a ton of help on defense and the offensive line. |

Yup. Build a team not just a bunch of players. He is a perfect piece for this offense. Now lets concentrate on the trenches. |

A few years ago? Or two years ago? Now he has a real quarterback. Missed 4 games over the last two years. He is 29. Kind of whiner because he got in Jake moodys face ? Come on. Dude had 12 touchdowns the year before last. For a fifth rounder it isn’t just a steal it is grand theft. |

We needed another threat to pull d from terry. Hes an upgrade from the other guys that JD made look great. Im cautiously optimistic about it. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
I'd say the pro's outweigh the con's. He's only 29, potentially years left in him and likely a 2-3 year deal anyway. An extension would mitigate his 2025 cap numbers and he wants a SB opportunity like any other player, so should be willing to do a deal. He offers something we don't really have, an every down air and ground threat and takes the pressure of Scary. If he wasn't of the right temperament AP and DQ wouldn't have wanted him so...
Con's are he's not been as productive last couple of seasons and been out 4 games, but every likelihood he was playing hurt, so a full offseason of recovery (like Lattimore) and hopefully he's back to his best. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Think Im gonna trust Peters here but a legit 2nd WR was a big need for us.

Last year the whole team sucked including his quarterback. 4 games over two years is pretty damn good. Wouldn’t call that a con. I see no cons. |

I just can't get excited for a 29 year old wr that's coming off a 51 catch season for 670 yards and 3 td's. Dyami could easily get those numbers if given the chance as a full time #2. I feel like w/ that 5th rounder perhaps you get some help on defense. Maybe not a starter but a roll type player. We need defense in the worst way, not a 29 year old wr w/ average stats. |

Whatever Deebo did in SF with Brock Purdy and Jimmy G is childs play compared to what he will do with JD. |

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Yeah, Samuel might not be the same player as he was in 2021 but it certainly doesn't mean that he will not do much for us. Keim said that Samuel is like a supercharged Zaccheaus, I have no doubt Kliff will find ways to maximize Samuel's skills that will put the offense to a next level. The defenses won't be able to put all focus on McLaurin anymore - this alone will help the offense greatly.
Don't forget, the 5th round pick we gave up is worth closer to 6th round pick than it is to 4th round pick. This is definitely a win-win situation for all three parties. |

I just disagree; his numbers here won't be any better. And Purdy is not some trash QB either. |

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Good luck finding a 5th rounder that will give us what DS could bring. Can’t wait to see him in this KK offense with a top notch QB, nothing against Purdy but he’s not even close to JD.

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Last season did we have the Bobby Wagner or Zach Ertz from their prime/SB years?
No! They were good enough and HEALTHY enough and their leadership was important. Deebo’s health is the key, because Deebo is a physical monster when healthy. I have no question if healthy Debo will be good enough. Plus we needed a big WR. Another piece of the puzzle. I like that this FO is getting physical punch you in the mouth players. Keep going. We now need DL and OL maulers. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Like the trade a lot. Deebo is a gamer and is lethal with yac. He can carry the rock also. Wondering if Peters wasn't feeling the wrs in the draft a ton. Deebo can bring it and is strong as heck too and shifty. Will be fun. I could honestly see him playing at a high level for another 3 years.

You already have guys on the team that can give you that same production that don't cost 21 million against the cap and you keep our 5th rounder. Remember what the late great Bill Walsh said, he'd rather have guys off his team a year early vs a year too late. I think the 49ers in this case did just that. On top of that, Kyle and Lynch are some of the sharpest guys around. I believe they know when the time is right to move on from a player. We'll see, hoping Debo can get back to his old form. I feel like they're making these risky trades ( Lattimore as well) because they have JD on a rookie deal. Can we go get Garrett next? :-) |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
We’re talking about a 5th rounder for a guy (who’s had high level success) playing for a new deal. The risk is well worth the potential reward.

Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
I am psyched some here have some reservations on this trade, but it kinda shows wounds from yhe past. Deebo is easily a legit #2 on any team and certainly ours where we have a bunch of 3 and 4s. Yes, you could argue Brown could develop and I hope they extend him, but one thing to realize about deebo, is he improves both the passing AND running game. No other WR available (or maybe draftable) can clearly do that consistantly. In a way, he makes it feasible to not have to draft a wr and rb. My only concern is health. I would still extend him along with terry for 3 years. This is a very good acquisition indeed. Now we can focus on oline and defense, anything else on offense is GRAVY
|
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Yea for a 5th and 20 mil, take deebo all day. He's only 29 and he's an animal. No brainer for me. We have the cap space and I trust Peters. Always been a fan of his and beyond pumped for this move.
Watch Peter's extend him and lessen this years cap blow as well. That's what I'm waiting for next. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Just an old outsider looking in but "new administration" reminds me of the George Allen era in building the team with older Vets and drafted rookies seems like a good mix.

You can't extend two wr's for 3 years that are 30 or approaching 30. That's just bad business. I'm going to extend Terry because he is the type of WR that plays a less physical style. He's probably going to play longer than Debo I feel. Hoping they get something done w/ Dymai but I doubt that happens. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Samuel is gonna fit what we want to do: physical WR who can block in the running game, catch these WR screens and break tackles, experience getting open against quality DBs and another runner in the backfield alongside JD5.
I still think we can go get a speed guy in the draft at WR. This move fills a big need and still allows us to get a young guy…but we don’t have to take that in the first or second round. |

He is one of the best receivers I've seen for breaking tackles. Honestly just a pretty unique offensive weapon in the most complimentary way. He will be a stud when healthy. Excited about bringing him on. |
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
Would love to us flip Jon Allen for a 6th rounder now and claw back a late round pick
|
Re: Washington trades for Deebo Samuel
The 5th round pick we gave up is actually from Saints via Lattimore trade. In other words, we got Lattimore and Samuel for 3rd, 4th and 6th round picks.
