The Kinda Early Draft Thread
The draft is Thu, Apr 24, 2025 – Sat, Apr 26, 2025. So, a little less than 3 months from now.
Picking at 29th is so foreign. |
The Kinda Early Draft Thread
This is late. I start these in August of the previous year. lol. This is the “where’s the beef” edition. We need to be bigger, faster, and stronger in the trenches.
You assuming Allen is going and needs replacement? I'm not so sure and using a high pick on DT 2 years in a row, with other (bigger) needs is a head scratcher for me. |

I just went BPA and it was on the line. We need to be better against the run. We need to be faster, stronger, and bigger up front on both sides of the ball. That being said, in 90 percent of these mocks I do not take a DT early ever. This was a reaction to us getting manhandled in the trenches last night. |
Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
Line is #1 priority for both sides. Free agency might impact the draft. I expect us to make a big splash this year with at least 2 big signings and filling out the roster, similar to last year.

Here are some links to draft similulators.
I tried one and went trade crazy and ending up with more 26 pics than 25. https://www.tankathon.com/nfl https://walterfootball.com/ https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/simulator |

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
This should be a super offseason similar to last year. Still digesting we already were in the NFC title game. Offseason priorities: both lines, secondary, bpa, still want another stud wr.
Sign Tee Higgins if possible. Know he will be expensive but kid is gonna get you nearly 100 yds receiving a game and love the size he brings. Excited to see what Peters does. |

I'm not spending 30 million a year on a wr when there are so many other needs. I want guys that can block, rush the passer and stop the run in no particular order. These are the weak areas of the team. I'm trying to resign Dyami and hope that he keeps improving. To me he is an ascending player. I have a high pick invested in McCafferey. I have Noah Brown coming back. I really didn't think our Wr's were an issue. |

I agree. I am also trying to find a MLB that is a sideline to sideline guy that can run and cover. We are so slow in there w/ Wagner. |

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
We chose the right year to pick 2nd overall and the right year to pick 29th overall. The top of the 1st round looks pretty weak imo. Might not be much difference between 29th and say 15th.

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
Should we trade down, out of the round; to get more picks?

It's always nice to have the 5th year option for first rounders. |

If there is a pick that Peters likes at a premier position (OT, CB, EDGE), I think you stick like Matty said for that extra year on the contract. But I'm not against trading down either to recoup some of the Lattimore picks. |
Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
I don't envy AP after this season. Most of us can be sensible with expectations (as can hopefully Harris), but a lot of the fan base is going to expect a trip the NCCC at least. It's entirely possible, but there are some fundamentals we have to address. As yesterdays games will attest, in this day and age you need a top QB, a top D and a good to great OL. We only check one of those boxes. With AP's choices in FA we exceeded expectations because he went out and got leaders and team players. I expect more of the same in FA, and while I don't have an issue with signing Higgins, I doubt it. AP doesn't look like a guy that will suddenly chase a big FA instead of building in the draft.
So I think he'll stick at 29 and go for an edge rusher. We need someone to help the DB's out and contain the likes of Hurts and Barkley. Then we address CB or OL with the next picks depending on BPA. I also want a fast RB too, as we'll likely retain BRob, but he's not that guy. I wouldn't be averse to trading down if the right package was on offer (someone chasing a low 1st round QB?) but I don't see that happening. Lets continue to reinforce the D and protect the QB, the rest will follow. |

Shouldn’t we also have a free agency thread?

Someone will start one eventually. |
Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
Free agency threads are fun but not simulated mock draft thread fun.

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
Since we gave a 5th rounder for Debo; we need to trade down from either our first rounder or 2nd rounder, to pick up more picks.
|
Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
If and only if there isn't a need when we get to 29. There's every chance one of the leading OT's or DE's will be available, even a CB. All are needs, and you don't trade quality for quantity in this league. AP will line up his FA and draft ducks in a row and see which ones he can pick off before the draft. If we trade down it will be because the guy they want isn't there or they filled the need already; if he trades that pick before draft day I'll be surprised.

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
I think I want them to try to find a trade partner to move out of the 1st round, and then maybe move back again. It would be great to turn that #29 pick into 3-4 picks in rounds 2-5.
RB, T, Edge, and DB are all pretty deep in this draft. |

Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
Agree as long as we address Edge. As we all know, fixing that helps the secondary anyway, so we can be more circumspect re DB. If Lattimore, Sainristil, Jones and Igbinoghene are currently #1-4, that's not too bad and eases pressure to find a CB in the draft. However, I'd really like to see them address S as I think we can really do with an upgrade there, maybe both slots. So for me Edge, RB, S and a RT are priorities as of today.

Yes, there are fewer blue-chippers at the top of this draft. It is very weak QB class, especially at the top, which of course leads to everyone taking a crap on this draft class. However this draft is strong at DL, RB and TE, maybe even stronger than last year at these positions. I'm not against trading down if the right offer comes and we do not drop too far down. Having two second rounders in this draft is good. There are some big boys in this draft that will help on either line. We were exposed in the playoffs as weak against the run. Especially at DE. There are candidates in this draft that can help with this weakness. |
Re: The Kinda Early Draft Thread
this class is deep in RBs like the last one was deep in QBs. I doubt we'll spend high picks on one (vs DE or OT/OG); they'd have to be graded pretty far ahead of OL/edge. I 100% think we're getting an RB this draft that will actually play (i.e. not buried on the depth chart). It's deep enough it may be worth taking 2. Once ekeler got hurt, our RBs spent the rest of the year kind of doing nothing.

is https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/ bad?
the trade offers were crazy: Washington pick 2.61 for Carolina picks 3.74 and 4.111 (and 2026 4,5,7) Washington pick 4.128 for Miami picks 4.135, 5.150, 7.224, 7.231, 7.253 so +5 2025, +3 2026 picks for moving a total of 20 spots down. wtf. |
