Sam Howell Traded
Per Schefter to Seattle for pick swaps
We get a 3rd and 5th Seattle gets fourth and sixth There it is |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
We didn't really get much, kinda feels like the team simply wanted to get rid of him.
Howell has a chance to become the future QB for Seahawks so this is a win for him. |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
Given that SH was a 5th rounder, this basically feels like we gave him up to swap a 4th for a 3rd and a 6th for a 5th. Doesn’t seem like we got a lot. Is a 5th round pick worth that? SH arguably outplayed his draft slot on a terrible team.

Good he's gone time for our new QB

Re: Sam Howell Traded
And that guarantees a QB at 2 now (or 1)

Re: Sam Howell Traded
Basically the equivalent of a mid 4th rounder, would have preferred to keep hold of him, cheap contract and had some upside
|
Re: Sam Howell Traded
According to the pick value chart this is roughly the equivalent of the 95th pick. Late 3rd.
Good value. 78=200 152=30.6 230.6 total 102=92 179=19.8 111.8 total +118.8 Pick 95=120 |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
I think we got pretty excellent compensation
Another 3rd round pick? Nice |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
If the pick value chart says this is the equivalent of a late 3rd, that's reasonable. If he outplays Geno Smith and becomes a long term starter for them, I might feel differently, but we will have gone from a 5th rounder to a 3rd rounder in exchange, and that is itself better than any trade that the last regime did, no matter what SH accomplishes for Seattle.

Re: Sam Howell Traded
Basically we moved from 102 to 78, with people who know how to draft those picks may make a big difference.
The 5th and 6th rounders are basically lotto tickets anyway. Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk |

So you would rather they had kept him? |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
Pretty obvious Peters and Quinn liked Sam about as much as jamf did. His fate was sealed once they signed the quitter.
Sam has a lot of potential. I don't think the book is closed on him at all. As I have said, his good was as good as anyone was last year, and his bad was about as bad as it gets. If whomever we draft plays like Sam did, I think most people here would take it year one. But because Sam was a 5th rounder, he wasn't getting a long rope, w/ the new regime or the fans. John Schneider is a pretty sharp GM and sees some value. Wish Sam well. |

Ultimately the new staff wants their own quarterback and nobody can fault them for that.
Though the marketing department missed a golden opportunity to rename the team the Washington Wolves and have Howell as their quarterback I mean come on it's a perfect fit !! Sent from my SM-G781U using Tapatalk |

i'm a Sam fan so i'll be pulling for him to do well .. i guess we will find out his potential and if he fails then i'll be first to admit i was wrong ...

right about what ?? A young QB that was thrown to the wolves under a horrible run team with very little help with the OC .. yea ! we shall see how Sam plays under a real team .. we haven't had that in 23 years ! Currently our QB is MM .. hope that this Golden ticket number 2 pick works out.. |

jamf will you at least give Howell some credit if we end up flipping one of these picks for a stud pick or player or we draft a stud with one of the Seahawks picks? Because if we draft a pro bowler with the 78th overall pick that we got as a result of Howell playing - he gets a piece of the credit. He played well enough to improve our draft position and that counts for something. Yes he played like ass in the second half of the season last year but I'm not tossing his career in the garbage yet. Lots of guys need multiple years of seasoning before they understand the NFL game. I won't be surprised if Howell stays in the league for 10+ years as a backup or mid-range starter. He's just not ready right now. And give him credit where it's due - he played the entire year and got us the #2 overall pick. Imagine if he was mediocre enough to get us a classic Ron 8-8 record? If our next qb is a stud we can thank Howell for his efforts. TL;DR: Thanks for everything Sam. Good or bad you played a direct role in setting up this franchise for the long term future. Your career isn't over yet and now get a chance to relax and take your time learning the game. Good luck - except for when you play us. |

Not one of the top three QBs in this years draft would have done any better than Sam. Not one. That offensive line and play calling was a lesson in futility. It was never going to work out. I agree with your sentiments, sir, and hope they give Daniels the protection he needs to succeed. Undersized and unprotected in the NFL will get you folded up like a lawn chair. Lord knows Daniels will be running too much already by way of his style of QB. He needs his blindside covered, and time to throw and grow in a new offense. |
Re: Sam Howell Traded
It's not bad compensation, but I'd rather have Howell than Mariota. It's obvious they are drafting QB this year.

GTFO you can’t read defenses bum.
The problem is they didn't have the right pieces in place for him to succeed. You can't throw a rookie QB out there with a shitty OL and expect good things to happen. All it does is just ruin any talent you have. If they do the same thing with the next QB we draft, you'll see the same results. |

I agree with Jim on this. Under our system we ran, none of them would have done any better. The protection wasn't there. That's why you don't play young QBs unless you can protect them. |

Re: Sam Howell Traded
Sam got a raw deal….bad Oline, bad offensive coaching and bad organization when he entered, would have been tough for any rookie QB.
I wish him success like I did Cousins when he left. It’s time to move on and like others on the team, they will find out like Sam did, they weren’t the choices of this current regime…and if and when they leave or get demoted, cut, etc….we will have to accept that. It’s a new day |
Joe Burrow says hi.
He had his knee injured in his rookie season because his OLine couldn't block, by Jon Allen if I recall. Missed a large part of the season. They then started putting major resources into building the OL. Who knows how that will effect the longevity of his career. |
