If you can sign any free agent, who would you want? Doesn't matter if it's not likely, the guy will be franchised, etc. Just if you could have any 1 FA, who are you getting.

We need an edge rusher and Go Noles!, so I'm taking Brian Burns.

I would sign Josh Allen, Edge. He does it all. Playmaker.

Agree with Queen and then adding TE Dalton Schultz

The TE draft class is weak and we need to finally get a starting TE who can actually block.

Would love Queen, Burns, and/or Josh Allen...but don't think any of them leave their current teams.

There's also a few cut candidates that aren't FA's yet. Can the Chargers keep Bosa and Mack? Allen and Williams. Not saying 1 or even all 4 of those will definitely be available, but there are plenty of candidates that we could be eyeing up.

Sam Howell at some point will develop into a legit starter in this league .. maybe not a franchise superstar but along the lines of a Mayfield,JimmyG,Ryan Tannahill, Maybe even a Goff .. just watch and you will realize that RR and EB were really bad for Sam ..

I think he’s going to be a Baker or Fitz type. Will come in and win some games and light it up but overall I don’t see him being a top QB

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk[/QUOTE]I don't think we really know what his potential is because the team was in such disarray last season. I'm not saying that we should just roll with him, But I'm pretty comfortable letting Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury make the decision on whether we keep him, trade him or scrap him.

We need a really good Veteran Center. Connor Williams is who I am hoping is the first FA pickup.

There are some higher profile free agents out there, but lower key players I'm hoping we take a look at, two offense and two defense:

TE - Noah Fant
WR - Josh Reynolds

LB - Josey Jewell
Edge - Dorance Armstrong

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread

I have always been in the camp that wants to hang on to Sam Howell. The 2nd pick could very well bust and he would be a good safety net. I do agree that he may top out at Baker Mayfield but you can do a lot worse until you find your guy.

I also really like the Dalton Schultz and center ideas. I won't pretend to know a lot about Connor Williams but they need a good vet center badly. I was sorry to learn that the FA market for OG looks like a lot of JAGs, I was hoping we could find a solid starter as guards in free agency are pretty cheap.

AnonEmouse 02-20-2024 07:41 AM

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread

I think the Mayfield comparison is fair, maybe more than Fitz. But it also depends on coaching. I don't believe Mayfield was well coached until he got to Tampa, and it's probably too late to turn him into a franchise QB. Howell, on the other hand, might thrive with a good staff, and I'd suggest that's what he's got in Kingsbury's team. Time will tell, but I highly doubt Howell is going anywhere soon unless someone comes in with a trade offer we can't decline. If nothing else, he could be an ideal backup, and cheap for now.

I suspect we'll only have 3 or 4 current OL still on the roster come camp, and only Cosmi starting. I would use the draft to load up on the interior and T as much as possible, but I doubt we get more than 2 or 3 starters. I agree with pursuing a vet C, but we need to also look at T in FA. There are some candidates. Likewise, a vet and a rookie TE make 100% sense. This is where I wished Howell was the man; we could turn that #2 into a bunch of very useful picks.

Of course we will. That's why team officials have made such a big deal out of the fact that we have a large amount of cap room.

Signing a solid RT would be huge. Kick Wylie inside if the cap hit is too much and let him compete for LG with a rookie. They absolutely need to find OL in this and the next draft.

I used to love mustard. But I was basic, and still am, lol. I used mustard like the Frank's Red Hot commercial, I put that shit on everything. Steak, pass me the mustard, etc.

Grey poupon is legit, but yeah, it's expensive man. You can buy like a gallon of yellow mustard for the same price as a thimble of G.P.

Mooby/Deion are really gonna love Cooper Dejean. Apparently lots of people will. He's like Troy Apke, but actually an elite football player. Looks to be a 1st rounder and definitely no worse than a 2nd rounder.

So the salary cap is $255 million. That should put our effective cap space at around 90million

And interestingly per overthecap.com the top three teams with cap space are also the top three draft pick teams: New England Chicago and us

They'll probably restructure a whole bunch of contracts to get under the cap.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread

I think the expanded cap hurts us more than helps us. It allows the teams that were in the negatives more ease to maneuver around and bid on one or two FA's, making the bidding process more expensive overall. Whereas for the teams that had a lot of cap space, the increase likely only covers one big cap hit signing.

Chief X_Phackter 02-23-2024 06:52 PM

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread

I don't feel hurt by a few extra million. :)

I see what you're saying though...but honestly there are a handful of players who get overpaid each year - resetting the market. Maybe we'll do that, maybe we won't, but this organization should no longer be a destination players avoid. Sure, there are many teams currently better poised than this one for sure, but I think this will be a different vibe in free agency than in the past. No overpaying for washed up FAs, no settling for the bottom of the barrel...just a normal free agency period where we address some needs prior to the draft with quality talent.

It's exciting.

I can't believe new ownership and GM is getting to walk into all of these picks and money.

I mean if we have a good offseason, we could easily be a playoff contender. Not saying we're winning the super bowl or anything, but getting into the dance is not impossible.

Playoffs? PLAYOFFS?! Chief uses the word "normal" in reference to our team and the next thing you do is post a comment about our making the playoffs. Man, we are a pathetic lot grasping for any shred of flotsam to keep our hopes alive.

I don't think "could" be a playoff contender is that bold. I mean 9-8 is a playoff contender.

And a normal functioning franchise is definitely a massive fucking improvement over the last 30 years.
