2023 Commies training camp thread
You guys are still talking about the name change, really? Put that shit on pause until next year minimum.
https://twitter.com/john_keim/status/1685280200399978497 There's so many fresh and relevant subjects we could be discussing instead, like the amazing fan attendance at training camp right now (seriously we haven't seen that many fans attend training camp in 10+ years). Or how B-Rob finally feels normal again after getting shot in DC last year. Or how Forbes is making plays at training camp. Or how Sam Howell looks (seems like he has his highs and his lows which are to be expected at this stage). https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38088811/commanders-rb-brian-robinson-building-trying-rookie-year - Good read, B-Rob ran for 800 yards last year and he still wasn't 100%. 2nd edit: Look at this line of fans waiting to get into camp! You love to see it. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
It’s early and not in pads yet, but Ben Standig watched our new Right Tackle get beat pretty bad inside and outside.

Really need to look to bring other guys in asap. Just sucks if Howell isn't going to have a lot of time to throw.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
I'm very concerned about the o line.
All the weapons in the world don't mean anything when the opposing D is in your backfield in 2-3 seconds. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
It's comical to try to evaluate the O-line before they even put on a pad. Anyway, hopefully a lot of O-lines struggle against this defensive front. Going against our D-line in practice will only better prepare them for the season and some of the really good D-lines they will face this year.
Injuries will play a big part, but I think we're better off than last year. I wouldn't mind upgrading the L Guard position, but maybe they like what they see so far. C Leno Jr C Paul/S Charles N Gates/T Larsen/R Stromberg S Cosmi A Wylie C Lucas = Swing Tackle |

Of course then we lost Roullier, while Cosmi, Leno and Norwell underperformed (Leno and Norwell especially). |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
I would love for the OL to go prove me wrong, but last year it was a problem that just did not go away, there's no quick fix for that. We brought in some guys, but not enough talent-level to just assume we're good now. Maybe it was just a bad year and we had the wrong guys in etc, but we'll know soon enough either way.

it will be better. Last year both guard positions were bottom of the league, and we were on our 4 th Center at times due to injuries. EB will help too |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
The line is an issue but the offense will go as far as SH can take them. At the end of the day you have To have a QB. Hopefully he is that guy

I would have loved some strengthening of the left side too, especially because with that our roster would've been borderline hole-less. But as long as it's not injury crippled like it seems to have been every season for a few years, it's and okish+ Oline. Envoyé de mon SHV48 en utilisant Tapatalk |

And I agree, let's put the name talk on pause until we have some legit news about it.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
I still think it's a piecemeal o-line, we haven't adequately replaced Trent or Scherff since they both left.
After last year we should all be apprehensive about the state of the line. Taking a young qb making his 2nd career start and sticking him behind a shoddy o-line is a recipe for disaster. The first time he gets strip sacked we will all be on here bitching about the poor job they did getting help on the o-line in the offseason. |

There are going to be some really rough Sunday's that are coming for the offense. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
How many years has Charles been here? Is he going to just be a backup or is he going to become a legit NFL starter.

It's not easy to immediately replace top players. Also, we have been spoiled with LT in Samuels and Williams for years until Bruce Allen ruined it for us. |

His first few years they had a great running game, which they used to set up a lot of big plays down the field with his arm. His last season they did NOT have a good run game and that is why his stats dropped a lot because he was ALWAYS under pressure and had to run himself a lot more. |

Commanders LB Jamin Davis will not be at practice today. He’s appealing a reckless driving conviction in Loudoun County. Reckless driving is a class 1 misdemeanor in Virginia, punishable with up to 12 months and a $2,500 fine. |

According to a Google search, 1 year jail. |

Hopefully it's his first offense, they likely would give him a fine and/or probation if it's his first time. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
It's not a good line personnel wise. But the Bieniemey scheme calls for the ball to come out lots faster than Scott's did. I think the quick game is going to hide some of the flaws and we'll end up with a better functioning offense than we had last year.
But Rome wasn't built in a day, we will need to upgrade the OL personnel next offseason. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Like was said recently, I'd like to know we've looked into Risner as a camp signing. He should be an upgrade over 1 if not both G's, providing he's healthy and interested.
On the basis his knee is healthy, I'd like to know if Lewan is actually retiring. Again, IF healthy he should be an upgrade over what we have and we could surely afford to offer him on a 1 yr contract. |

Davis was cited going 114 mph in a 45 mph zone on Loudoun County Parkway at Evergreen Ridge Dr. on March 28, 2022 shortly after 1 p.m. The Loudoun County District Court originally sentenced him to 30 days, plus a suspended license. He appealed. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
After what happened to Deshazor Everett (sp?) You would have thought he got the message
|
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
NFL suspension to follow? Not sure if they get involved in traffic offences, though they seem to get involved when there is no offense committed so who knows

One note on Jamin Davis' situation: A little more than two months before this latest charge, he was charged with reckless driving (89 in a 65; later amended to 84 in a 65) |

@BurgundyBlog · 3h Haven't been to camp, only reading same reports available to all. But the Howell vibe is a little odd. I guess he's been mixed. But it feels like reporters are trying not to tell us that he doesn't look great. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
In Virginia they don't fuck around w/ driving reckless and DUI's. They put people in jail for that all the time. I would expect Davis to do some time. Not 30 days but maybe a week. Sounds like that's what he needs.
With all of the crazy drivers out there, and also what happened to Everett, why would these guys continue to put their lives and other drivers lives at risk? Just slow down out there. The consequences are just not worth it. |

These reports that come out evaluating every throw is so stupid. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Yeah I'm not going to be worried about QBs until we see them play in preseason games. If they look terrible in all games then I would be concerned.

Especially when you consider he was in the other car when Everett had his crash ( not sure if he was driving) with StJuste. Maybe too late now but Ron needed to get this guy in line, so much for drafting character |

I don't know US's numbers but in France 3500 people die every year on the road, a third of whom because of overspeeding (wether they were the culprit or the victim). So no, it's not funny. In other great news, if and when he gets suspended, our starting LG unit, even in Nickel personnel, consists in Cody Barton and... *thunder roll* David "Spicy Jalapeño BBQ Sauce" Mayooooo ! Yes. Holding out hope for Hudson, never understood why he didn't get more playing time before the Dallas game last year. |
