Moving Thread

Share what state you live in now, and what state(s) you would move to if you were going to move to a state not connected to the one you currently live in.

Sometime around 4th of July I'm gonna start applying for jobs in/around Nashville, Greenville SC, Charleston SC, Oklahoma City, and Tampa. Not a final list, might remove 1 or 2 of above, or leave all of them, and even add some additional places. Most likely places to add, would be around Raleigh NC or somewhere in the panhandle.

Live in NJ. Would move to California. Do like South Florida. Miami. I think what city would you move to is better than what state. A state can be complete different from one town to the next.
Lake Tahoe
San Francisco
Miami
New Orleans
Burlington , VT
San Diego
These would be my top choices based on my travels.
One place I want to visit is Asheville, NC. That might very well wind up on the short list.

Currently Maryland (42 years) , grew up in NJ not far from punch. Move to possibilities ........Ashville NC, anywhere in the Berkshires of Mass love the Mountains up there. A Few towns in Vermont and I am still looking around Me. While I did grow up on the New Jersey Shore (north of Punch) I spent many a Summer in the Berkshires Of Mass, love it. We will most likely end up in Delaware for Tax reasons and family reasons.

but like an idiot I got out of a 10 year relationship and immediately jumped into a new one going on 2 years now. She wants a house and kids. I already have a house and kid.

I keep telling her when I hit 69 I going to disappear. She laughs.

Im not joking. I tell her Im not joking. She laughs more.

Just met a couple about a month ago with one...they travel around (mostly up and down east coast) for dog shows.

So the discussion about owning RV or a pull behind camper is once you park the RV, it’s tough to drive it around if you want to go to destinations when you get to your rented spot. Pull behinds are nice, but you need to own a truck with a nice 8 cylinder to do that job.

Those vehicles take care of both issues. It’s a lil cramped tho and it’s nice to have a bathroom.

I grew up in PG County, and now live in Anne Arundel. I have lived in Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, NOLA, Colorado Springs, Chicago, and Nurnberg GE. Loved New Orleans, but went with an ex-fiancee and no job. In '91 that didn't work out well.

I would love to move to San Diego, back to NOLA, or South Carolina (pretty much any part of that state). Would never move an inch further north than I am here in Md.

I looked at places like Montana and New Hampshire. They look beautiful. But living in San Diego, the last 20ish years, no way I can handle the weather. Nashville is my northern border for possible moves.

I could never imagine moving FROM San Diego TO Montana. If done by choice, I think institutionalizing the person should be an option on the table.

Not if SD would ever like to own what piece of property he lives in, based on his current income + inflation.

Going from SD to SC ; man you are going learn what humidity is really fast. I lived in Bluffton for a few years it was cool but hot lazy living for sure.

Man, CA DMV is the shits. SC DMV is awesome. I got there and back in an hour and fifteen minutes (no appointment), with a driver's license good for 8 years, without having to take any test. And it was only $25 bucks.

Putting an offer in on a condo in Charleston today. An accepted offer and Redskins miracle win would be a hall-of-fame Monday.

Check my emails after the win. Not only was the offer rejected, after 100+ days on the market, the seller is completely taking it off the market. No soup for anyone.

Life is crazy.

Might be the best thing for you. Didnt want to post this before you got word on the deal ... but fuck buying a house with these rates. Im looking to move, have a good chunk of money ... but these rates are killer.

Perhaps its easier to get into your dream home/no. 1 choice as demand has dropped and you wont be in a bidding war but youre going to pay more .. thinking maybe i can just refinance in a few years

Sorry to hear that. SS has a good point though. You will wind up in a better situation In the long run.

Re: Moving Thread

I did some napkin math ...

300k loan at 4% = $1,432 monthly mortgage
300k loan at 6 (or 6.5% I forget) = $1,896 month

Current rate is 7.3%

-------------

What sucks, everyone now is sitting on their cash and once rates drop ... its going to be a free for all again and it wont be the single person or family winning the bids .. it will be old rich people and companies buying it as an investment and write off.

US needs to do something to make homes available for people/families and not portfolios

I'm in a very fortunate situation due to unfortunate circumstances. Both of my dad's parents recently passed away (my grandma more recently). They lived in Walnut Creek, CA for a long time. That is one of the more expensive areas up there. So between the money they had saved and the insane equity in their townhome that was sold (they had this mortgage more than paid off), my dad and his 2 siblings all received a pretty large inheritance. My parents are actually going to buy the place with a cash offer up to X amount. I will then just pay the HOA, taxes, utilities, etc. So the interest rates currently won't affect my expenses.

brother ... strike while the iron is hot then. Sorry about your grandparents.

You should have a pretty non-competitive market, low demand bc of int rates.

I know nothing about real estate or markets, but I casually track houses in MD and the prices are dropping and I think they are going to drop some more.

I looked at 6-7 homes on zillow yesterday .. every one had a prince drop in past few months.

My lease at my apartment isn't up until 5/31/2022. I really liked that condo that I offered on. But unless something really sticks out, probably won't be putting another offer in until after the holidays. Hopefully the prices can trickle down a little further by then.

Could be alot of reasons why it was pulled. Keep an eye on it you might see it back on the market in a few months.

Under contract for a place. Closing is on the 31st.

Gonna be weird as fuck living by myself for the 1st time.

Anyone that wants to come to Charleston, feel free to reach out. I'll have a guest bedroom (free of charge for any regular here). It would be cool to meet some fellow commanders posters.

The Charleston area is pretty sweet, especially if you haven't been here before. And I've always thought it would be cool to meet some of you guys/gals. So maybe it will be a good bribe. But likely, I'll go on never actually knowing any of y'all.

i lived in Bluffton for awhile just outside of Hilton Head, great place to live; Low Country

We go to Charleston quit a bit for fun, great little city

I will say living down there i felt removed from the country, there is really no major city, that can be good and bad. Wanting to see a major sporting event you are in for a drive. There is was no spur of the moment hey lets catch a Q's game tonight moments.

Regardless great place to live.

I went down to the Hilton Head area this year, including Bluffton, just to check it out. I really liked Bluffton. I could totally live there. That's my 2nd favorite city in South Carolina (that I've been too). I still need to go check out the Rock Hill area at some point.
