Offense has to score this week and has to score at least 30 imo...

Alex Smith at 70-60 percent or Haskins at QB?
Offense has to score this week and has to score at least 30 imo...
The Giants held them to 12pts, i don't see Seattle scoring over 21.

Their pass defense is statistically terrible, unfortunately our pass offense IS terrible. I think a healthy AS could find the holes and exploit them but Is he healthy is the question of the week.

Even with this elite, Super Bowl caliber defense everyone keeps talking about?

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Seattle has scored 30+ in 8 of 13 games, and held under 20 only twice. The offense will definitely have to score, but my bet is 21-24 points should do it if this defense continues to roll. Wilson has been sacked 40 times, second only to Carson Wentz...that bodes well.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Need to come out fired up out the gate, can’t fall behind with this team. Their OL is not that good, our D can put some pressure but will need to be disciplined. Wilson is probably the best at making big plays when scrambling or a play breaks, their WR are dangerous and their D strength is their LB’s and CB’s.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Slim margin for error this week, it will take a complete effort across the board if we expect to be in this game.

I hope our d will stack up well against Seattle's offense, but this week really hinges on who is under center and how well they play. If we can't put at least 20 on the board, it's an L.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

One thing I would rather not see anymore is Hopkins trying 50+ yard field goals. Put the ball in Tress Way's hands to try to pin them back, and let the defense go to work.

They are the 32nd ranked pass defense. Not sure that ties with CB's being their strength?

edit: on the rankings chart posted in the SF postgame thread, it has Seattle's LB's as #1, but their CB's and Safeties ranked 21 and 23 respectively. That is not good for Logan Thomas, but I hope TM and other WR's can find space. We just need Alex as qb to get it to them. (and Sims Jr not to drop the ball)

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk
Exactly, Wilson couldn't get out of the pocket vs the Giants. Their DL played disciplined containment all game long and collapsed the pocket quickly. We need the same.
One thing this defense seems to be is VERY disciplined. The front 4 especially seem to trust each other to do their jobs (CY said that was a key to his fumble recovery) and not overplay their position. I think between SF tape against Seattle and NYG's game 2 weeks ago, our defense ought to have a very good game plan to limit Seahawks offense.

Does anyone know if Gibson is practicing today? I can't find any updates on his status.

Jp:

Winter weather expected in DC tomorrow - that means don’t expect media at practice. Which means no in person Alex Smith or Antonio Gibson updates.

My personal opinion based on my Warpath Doctorate Degree (still more of a dr than Jill)...I’d be shocked if Gibson plays this week. Bad Turf toe is a multi week injury

I wouldn't expect to see Gibson this week, and I hope they wait until he is 100% before putting him out there. I think they can get to the playoffs without him, but he will be crucial to any success once in.

I see this game as a prelude to the playoffs with specific potential outcomes:

1) we lose and our offense is inept = no hope in playoffs
2) we lose or win a close game, but our whole team fights = sets up intriguing rematch in 1st round
3) we win going away on both sides - hope beyond the first round

Defense has been playing great no doubt, but lets not forget Pittsburgh had 7 dropped passes, and we barely beat Nick Mullins.Russell Wilson is a whole different story,I dont care how many times he's been sacked.Seattle wins going away because our qb play is terrible.

If Smith plays, we have a small chance. If Haskins plays it's a 10 point L

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Seattle is tough to run on, but they give up the most passing yards in the NFL. If DH doesn't turn the ball over they should be fine. He has three INTs in four and a half games, but all those came against Cleveland. With a week to prepare (assuming) I like our chances even with DH.

Doesn't look like Alex is doing anything in practice today. Gibson is working with the trainers (Keim).

McLaurin led the team in receptions in all four of his starts too, so that would be nice this week if they can get that going again.

Well, I hope Smith's work ethic rubbed off on him, otherwise it's gonna be a long Sunday.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

With a good game plan no reason why DH can't win this game with the way the D has been playing. He can manage this offense to a W. If he's asked to win a shoot-out, probably not. But then again Smith probably isn't winning a shoot-out either.

Maybe. I think RR could be giving Smith needed rest and still roll him out there on Sunday.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

If we get the Smith from last week then I don't want that shit. Sit him down. If DH goes then we have to get the ball to our wr's, can't expect 15 play drives. Stop running pass routes at 4 yards when it's 3rd and 8. Can't beat Seattle doing that.

Their d can be had but we have to play more aggressive on offense.

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

My biggest thing is Haskins not LOSING the game. The dude can put up better numbers than Smith, but the key is not making crucial turnovers.

Summo 12-16-2020 04:47 PM

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Haskins just needs to be a game manager with this D right now.

TheMalcolmConnection 12-16-2020 04:52 PM

Re: WFT v Seattle predictions/pregame talk

Amen. We can focus on DK, but we have a damn good shot if we just play a little conservative and hope for a few breaks based on our defense.

Only way we win this one is with our defense, Haskins sure won't win it for us, and if we put the ball in Wilson's hands with 2min on clock at end of close game we're toast!

Guess a RB who's been mostly out of the league for two years was a better option than Leake. Probably the best insurance policy they can find in case Gibson is unable to return at all.

Dwayne ain't no game manager, take what the defense gives him kinda guy. He's the "I need to start the redemption arc by making plays so I can have my job back" kinda guy. He's the "unforced errors" kinda guy.

I hope he proves me wrong, because I'd love for there to be a qb controversy because Haskins plays well. But I don't see it.
