The Redskins 2020 draft class

R1/P2: DE Chase Young, Ohio State

R3/P2: WR/RB Antonio Gibson, Memphis

R4/P2: OT Saahdiq Charles, LSU

R4/P36: WR Antonio Gandy-Golden, Liberty

R5/P11: C Keith Ismael, San Diego State

R5/P17: OLB Khaleke Hudson, Michigan (Trent Williams trade)

R7/P2: S Kamren Curl, Arkansas

R7/P15: DE James Smith-Williams, NC State

I know nothing about our 5-7 rounders, but Gandy-Golden looks intriguing as does Gibson. If Saahdiq Charles has his issues figured out he might be a decent value pick, although I'm not sure I expect him to challenge for a starting job right away. Is there anything about Chase Young that hasn't been talked about already?

I'm a little surprised we didn't draft a single TE either. Maybe there just wasn't anybody they were impressed by.

More likely not what they wanted available when we picked.

Thaddeus Moss just signed to us as an UDFA

I have no idea why he wasn't drafted. Never saw him drop a ball, blocked very well. He dropped imo cause he doesn't look like a pure TE.

Re: The Redskins 2020 draft class

I’m excited we got him. It topped off the draft for me. He’s considered one of the best blockers at his position and he has great hands and body control. He’s just not long and not a plus athlete. Last I remembered being a good tight end is more about feel. Jason Witten was never fast or a jump ball guy.

Production wasn't there - 53 total catches in his collegiate career

Doesn't drop passes tho

His knock is not athletic enough.

For what it’s worth, Mel Kiper had Moss as the #4TE in their draft and Charles as the #7 OT.

My guess is 6'1" 1/2 240 4.89 BP ?...... he would be one of the smallest TEs in the NFL

no one should compare him to Whitten he is much smaller (4 inches and 20+ lbs)

Quite happy with the draft.
Our first 2 picks (or different levels) are playmakers.
Don't know a lot about our late round picks but it seems we didn't reach for need.

Seems LT is still a question mark, but again, guys like Donald Penn are still available on cheap 1 year contract.

Ok, need your guys help here: on this Saahdiq Charles highlight , it seems to me his hand technique in pass pro is not really good, he grabs as if he was run blocking... but I don't know OL play enough to be sure about what I'm watching, what do you guys think ?

I agree, there should be a second group of free agents from cuts after the draft.

Liked this video of Thadeus Moss vs Auburn last year, seems to me his blocking is decent. Like his ability to make contested catches. Potential really good value for an UDFA IMO.
(Has to be careful though, he tends to cut block a lot, and on the second play of the video he commits an un-flagged chop block because of it).

My favorite pick outside CY,

Saahdiq Charles

2 sacks given up all year and 20 pressures.

I'm with you .

3rd to me is Gibson, kid can fly and he's a weapon all over the field.

Gandy is ok, tape is kinda iffy but he's a big dude that can go up and grab it. I actually think he'll have a shot to make the roster.

Re: The Redskins 2020 draft class

Thoughts on the results...

1. CY is a organization-changing pick. Great job having the courage to make the pick and not doing a trade.

2. identified 2 weapons for Haskins in Gibson and AGG. Both these picks are unorthodox in their own way...Gibson is amazing athlete in a Hybrid RB/WR H-back gadget role. AGG is a small school dominator..man among boys. Both these guys will need to spend a lot of time in the class room to make the transition...these guys aren’t just plug in play, it will take time.

3. Man I’m so happy Ron and Kyle commitment to the Oline this offseason...and they haven’t done it with big names. They brought in a couple depth guys who can compete at EARLY in free agency. They followed it up with 2 more solid picks at LT and interior Oline. Ismael isn’t gonna start from what i read has the technique, needs to add a lil strength. Charles needs to keep his nose clean, but has the talent to start day 1 at LT. What the front may do is bring in a vet Tackle who can mentor him, Donald Penn makes sense. The right side is set...the center, LG and LT will be a fun competition among a solid group of young guys.

4. Moss Signing at TE makes up for a frustrating ending to how the front office handled the TE position for the second year in a row. Moss has a big opportunity here...he needs to step up with the chip on his shoulder

He also was like the 3rd or 4th option, at least last year.

Get on the phone with Elway and trade for Jake Butt. They just drafted another pass catching TE after signing Vannett as a free agent, not to mention their 1st rd pick last year, Fant is their rising star. Butt has been dealing with injuries, but should come cheap as they wouldn't be able to keep everyone.

The Charles pick is total boom or bust. Desperately fills a need but he's had off the field issues every year at LSU. Not sure if this kid will be mature enough to keep clean in a big city with $ in his pocket. He could start for us or be off the team in a year.

What is iffy about his tape? No agenda, I just want to know what you think about his weaknesses. Can he work on them and unlock his full potential?

He uses his size on most of his catches, he doesn't really get much separation kinda like Harmon, but he's faster than Harmon so that will help.

Early grades (of course this is all based off projections)

I'll take a B given the fact we didn't have many picks

Both Kiper and Wingo raved about AGG, he dominates in his tapes.

Sports Center did a peice on Gandy-Golden, from former coaches talking about him, his doing the interview and a lot of the highlights I'm extremely excited about this kids potential and how RR & company will employ him. Freak athlete, smart mentally and a drive to be the best that has been present his entire life.

I saw a video where Santana Moss gave him some advice to work on numerous moves to get separation and to learn to run crisp routes and not round them off. It seems that if he takes to coaching then he can become a good possession receiver - I hope.

Re: The Redskins 2020 draft class

I love what Rivera and Smith did, they mainly focused on character and attitude. There’s a Reason why TW is gone, questionable character and attitude. They followed the Gibbs blueprint, Ismael, Hudson, AGG, Gibson, CY, Curl, Smith-Williams are all high character and have a winning attitude. Even Charles is going to buy into the system, they spoke to him several times, he admitted to fucking up and changing his attitude.

Hudson and Curl are perfect examples, Hudson might not be athletic or have the height, but his attitude of kicking ass and Hurl’s confidence will go a long way. Scout loved Curl’s confidence of flirting with opposing team cheerleaders.

Re: The Redskins 2020 draft class

My thoughts on draft:

We got two definite starters, Young and Saahdiq Charles.

Ismael adds interesting depth to the Oline. He could even be a starter down the line. Excellent value for a 5th round pick.

Hudson could contribute to special teams and also be part of a "third and twelve" defensive package where coverage against pass is needed.

The 6th and 7th rounders are a waste.

To me the difference between a good draft, which I currently think we have, and an excellent draft is going to be Gibson and Golden. Taking two "play makers" from secondary and, in Golden's case, tertiary college programs is like drawing on an inside straight. It might work but the odds are not with you. Gibson at least played for a top 25 program and he has that unique asset, speed. Because of his speed and versatility I can see where he can help spread opposing defenses. Golden to me is the biggest problem mainly because he is a "big bodied" receiver who did not play in a "big bodied" league. A look at Liberty's schedule show that they did not play teams that would have had big bodied defensive backs like he is going to see in the NFL. The fact that he could overpower the defensive backs from Buffalo, Rutgers and New Mexico State does not strongly suggest he will be able to dominate NFL Defensive backs. So I think it is a very open question as to whether his "big bodied" skill set will transfer to the NFL. To me the Skins would have been wise to add KJ Hill in the 6th or 7th round to give them additional depth at WR rather than the 2 non-entities they chose in those rounds.

They also scored a plus by adding Moss as a UFA signing.

Overall I think they did a pretty good job. B+ as a grade. I would have given them an A if they added KJ Hill in the 6th or 7th round as a backup to Golden in case Golden does not prove successful at the NFL level.

I liked our draft, all because we added an instant starter possible impact player in chase young. If 1 of the guys drafted after chase make it to a second contract, then it’s a very good draft.

I always want to take iol as much as possible rounds 3-7

Edit — how many team captains did we draft?

Re: The Redskins 2020 draft class

Curl's biggest football strength: Demoralizes the opposing team by taking their cheerleaders and wives.

When he walks into the opposing teams stadium, the other team be like:
