3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
The 2020 NFL free agency period will begin Wednesday, March 18 at 4 p.m. ET.
March 18 is also the first day of the 2020 NFL calendar and the opening of the league's trading period. NFL Draft is not until 4/23, more than a month later. So it makes sense to start looking at Free Agency and who makes sense for us to plug some holes in the starting lineup. I do not necessarily agree with this Sporting News Ranking of the top 50 free agents of 2020. But it helps to get an idea of who is out there and learn about them. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-free-agency-2020-rankings-best-players-by-position/qyh7txt8tytt1e9e5e76mip61 One guy that caught my eye, because I knew nothing about him, is 27 year old CB Byron Jones. He is quietly becoming a respected, solid CB and a great tackler. A good combination at 6-0, 205-pound former safety is a bruiser and a world class athlete. He plays all DB positions including slot CB. He holds the world record for standing broad jump 12' 3". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjW7rebG6E4 The other reason I bring him up is the Cowboys have little cap space and they have Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Byron Jones as FA's. They gave a first round draft pick to get Amari and Dak is their QB. I do not see the Cowboys being able to sign all three unless one gives a hometown discount and that would be stupid. There might be an opportunity here to get a great player because of the cap. |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
I cannot wait to see what Rivera and company do with their first FA period. A lot of intrigue for this one with not only the Redskins, but all the qbs, and Dallas taking care of their guys- Dak, Amari, and Jones.
I really want to see us nab Hooper/Henry long term. Just think it's a critical position and we have zilch there currently. Would totally help the offense. Is anyone else going to be surprised if we nab a stud te and a new bigtime receiver? Should be intriguing. HTTR! |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
It’s definitely the most excited I’ve been maybe since coming off the cousins playoff run year (2015?)...
My feelings is TE, CB and WR will be the most likely targets. I really feel like spending big at WR would be a mistake, but we will see |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Unfortunately LOTS of teams after TE, WR and CB..... hopefully RR can use his reputation to get some interest

Emmanuel Sanders and AJ Green are the ideal WR for Redskins to sign in my opinion but I don't believe they will consider Redskins since we are not even close to contenders just yet. I don't like Amari Cooper.. So I doubt we will be able to find a WR that will come in and take over the #2 spot immediately. |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
TE is a bigger need than WR.
I’m fine with our young trio of McLaurin, Sims and Harmon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Why would anyone want AJ Green? Do not want him. He'll be hurt before week 1. Sanders is too old and Cooper is so overrated. Cooper wasn't even the best wr on the Cowboys. Gallup was. When it mattered the most Cooper came up small. I see why Gruden got rid of him. Dude is not a big time player.

I don’t think Cooper is going anywhere. I like him, but don’t love the dude at what he wants...but more comfortable than doing that than below. Sanders would be my choice but he wants to win a championship. But a two year 12 mil per would be ideal...but he will go to a contender. Demarcus Robinson is a guy I like but he is gonna get a strong Paul Richardson-like contract. I like the guy, but not paying him like that. Would Perriman come here for a 1 or 2 year deal prove it deal ala Pryor a couple years ago? Meh..I rather not do that...but it’s a safer deal than Robbie Anderson at a 40 million deal imo. AJ Green injury is really scary at what he wants...pass. I’d rather pay Amari Cooper if we are going to be stupid...but I’d hold off and see if a cut vet WR a decent price or spending that 3rd or 4th round pick on a WR. |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
My shopping list:
Re-sign Scherff and Flowers Get Cory Littleton (best TE coverage LB) Hunter Henry Kendall Fuller Logan Ryan Replacement RT, get rid of Moses. |

While I like Harmon, I don’t think he is a starter now but a developing piece going forward. Sims has awesome chemistry with Haskins and obviously Terry is a beast. Can we hit in the draft with a 3rd, 4th pick again at WR with a deep draft? I like to try that over Free Agency. |
My shopping list:

I would be really surprised if Chargers doesn't resign Henry but if he is available then Redskins should go after him. I think he is worth good money compared to Hooper. I would try to find a WR in draft instead of FA.. I think Logan Ryan is next best available if we can't sign Byron Jones. Also we need to Tre Boston, we cannot go into the season with Nicholson as starter. |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
I wouldn’t dump money this year in the WR market. Get us a good long term deal with Hooper or Henry at TE. Sign Byron or Bradberry, extend our guards, sign Vaitai from the eagles and ditch Moses. LB market is poor so add some depth and move on. Lastly give me a couple year deal to either Boston or Vernon Hargreaves. And then leave the rest in Kyle smiths hands to set us up with another well played draft. I just don’t wanna see us dump money and fall back into our old ways with picking up older FA. Keep going younger while adding quality at positions of need. If we can give Haskins a quality TE that can stay on the field. I think our WR corps will be just fine for the best season outcome we can have.
My shopping list:

Bradberry ( CB ) and or Boston (S) depending on who we could sign . I don't want to go big in FA this year , and have some $$$ problems 3-4 years down the road . I want to start winning first , then get guys who want to be part of a winner |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
IMO Tre Boston is a perfect fit for the Skins. On the other hand, Bradberry isn't even a league-average CB.

Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Agree, I'd Like us to get Boston, but if Bradberry isn't too expensive I'd still bring him in. We can't fill all the gaps in one off-season, but if we get Young, a 2nd TE (assuming we can sign Hooper or Henry) WR and OL depth in the draft, then we need a FS and CB in FA too.

I knew they were in cap purgatory but their beat writers seems convinced they could make room for him. Clear hurdle one. Now can we beat out NE and others while also not over paying? |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
1. Byron Jones (best CB available and still young)
2. Hooper (should be cheaper than Henry) 3. Re-sign both G's. 4. Re-Sign Dunbar 5. Tre Boston I think you can sign all of these guys and immediately make big strides in the division. Some will say Jones is too expensive but he's a long athletic CB like Dunbar that can cover any WR.. Fuller is a slot guy at best, we already have that in Fabian and Moreland |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Per Spotrac, Hooper’s projected market value in 2020 is a yearly salary of approximately $9.9 million. Based on his recent performance coupled with the current tight end market, Spotrac has Hooper signing something similar to a five-year, 49.9 million contract next season. The Bears could absolutely swing that, especially after their recent roster moves.

How hard do we go? https://overthecap.com/position/tight-end/ 10M for Jimmy Graham is the top AAV for a TE. market seems weird, only 3 making more than 9M AAV, 6 making 8M AAV or more .. but they are all older. Henry and Hooper are 25. I dont think you can use a 34 year old Jimmy G, or 31 year old Kelce, Ertz, Rudolph etc as comparables. Dang, the TE market may take a huge jump with two 25 old year players entering FA with teams in demand (assuming Henry makes FA). --------------------- Legit may take 13M or so to get one these two. Looking at the age of the other top tier TEs and the fact that both of these two can block and catch .... FA is going to be crazy this year. |

WOW
Kevin Sheehan reporting from sources: Skins will target 3 high profile Free Agents IF they become available: 1. Austin Hooper - Obvious 2. Kenyan Drake - WTF....I like the guy but why bring back AP. Or even draft Love last year? 3. Amari Cooper - Makes sense |

Im ready for some news ... or unverified leaks at this point. I want Hoop, fine with Drake .... will have to find a way to convince myself to like Amari Cooper if he comes here. |

Totally get it. Look rb is the most injuried position in the game. I like drake a lot...just depends on the contract imo. I’d like us to take care of our guys as well and like to know the Oline plan with so many questions there before you give several huge deal for skill players. |

It's tough to figure out Drake - Drake didn't do much with Miami beside a few great games (alot of this is because of coach Gase) and then did fantastic job with Arizona except for a couple of games where he didn't do anything. Because Redskins do not have a reliable RB who can make big plays, I can understand why they are looking into Drake. I wouldn't be upset if we sign Drake although I wonder if this would mean we will cut Peterson or perhaps Bryce Love. Or keep 4 RBs on the roster. |

We'd all love for Guice to be that guy but he can't be relied on. So the team really has to go out and look at options, the draft is light for RBs this yr , Peterson is 34 years old, I think Drake makes a ton of sense |

Well during the season I mentioned RB in free agency should be a target but when bringing AP back at this low cap number I wouldn’t think we would go there. Of course I’ve been told Love was a great pick...*♂️. I’m a big fan of a rb being a natural receiver as well...AP isn’t that. I’d like K Hunt but he keeps smokin weed and is restricted, but I like Drake. Wouldn’t be against it...but can’t be a crazy deal. I think Amari is gonna be a crazy contract...I would probably pass. But like I’ve said if your gonna pay a wr in free agency, he’s the only one proven |

Unless a WR is a true game breaker, I wouldnt invest high end money on 1 wr. Id rather have a stable of receivers. Are there any true WR game breakers outside of Michael Thomas? Deandre Hopkins and Julio Jones are studs. Larry Fitzgerald is old and OBJ is weird. But there is no Moss, TO, Calvin Johnson, Antonio Brown etc. Someone that can produce above their scheme and QB. Give me pieces like the Rams and Chiefs have. A really good wr (top 10-15 type), a speed guy, a good route runner guy, etc I would not make Amari Cooper (a nice player) the highest paid WR in the league. |

Yes...now he's bigger than CT, but when CT is 100% healthy its a similar skill set. He is a great receiver out the backfield, he has that extra gear to accelerate quickly and is outstanding in space. |
Re: 3/18 @4pm NFL Free Agency & Trading Period
Sounds like Drake wants to get paid... ARZ isn't typically known for dishing out big money but we'll see
