Skins Wins - predictions go here

Matty if you can make this a poll I would appreciate it.

Buffalo Bob wanted the reasons for some people predicting playoffs so I figured I would give my game by game as well general thoughts in this thread.

First and foremost our Defense was dominant against the run early in the season, remember Ionnaidis picking Elliot up and dropping him like a fly? That was GREAT! But we also held Barkely to 38 yards rushing in our first meeting. And a couple other great RBs to. Then Dunbar got injured, and a few others and suddenly all the parts fell off on D, and our offense was down to MSanchez. yes MSanchez.

Second, we as Skins fans have had a great LT for 30+ years so we are very spoiled on that, BUT Case Keenum took the Vikings with a terrible OL to the NFC Championship. He made his living on off script plays. Yes he had terrific receiving weapons, no doubt, but we don't know what we've got. A couple guys look poised to step up, and if even one does become a weapon, then Keenum might find an outlet receiver he can lean on.

Third, our running game should be top 10 or even top 5 if preseason gives any hint (and yes I know preseason doesn't mean really anything). Guice and AP both look powerful with good vision, and good hands for catching out of the backfield.

With all that said and without further ado, I present MY 2019 W/L Predictions, send donations to Matty on my behalf.

Anyone remember the Ace guy on here? He vehemently kept saying the Redskins would go 14-2, even after we had lost four games already that season. He was a character.

6-10, another losing season. Hip hip hooray! =(

Re: Skins Wins - predictions go here

I really don't see 10 losses. Even given that JGruden is our coach, he has shown he is typically an 8-8 coach, and the talent on defense alone ought to get us to his average 7, if schemed right and a little luck (now that Luck's gone we are due for some) we get to 9 or 10 wins.

Ace in the da house...poor guy. Usually after a skins loss he would do a thread explaining the losses other teams had to endure in order for us to make the playoffs.

Total 10-6

Post your win total predictions
Well said , nice write up . I will say , if our Defense plays as well as it has in some of the games that you mentioned for an entire season , we could win 10 games . The run game is a must IMO , then , maybe the QB play is good enough …. just BEAT dallas , philly and the Gnats , badly !

9-7 max, offense is still shaky at best. Defense should win us some games

I have to ask, who thinks we are going to win 5 or less???? Gruden has shown he's a middle of the pack coach, and we have upper middle defensive talent. I can't imagine this team actually losing 11 or more games.

It's possible cause we are unstable at QB and o-line. Imagine when Penn goes down cause he ain't lasting 16 games. There is no margin for error on the o-line. One or two injuries and it can be catastrophic for an average offense and a below average Keenum.

Penn is not a starting lineman on this team. He's depth.

With a season of injuries from hell last year, Gruden still pulled out 7 wins. Maybe it's possible we get 5 or less wins, but to predict that you basically have to believe that our defense is going to give up the ghost right away and that we will lose half our line in the first 8 games.

Warthog 08-29-2019 01:08 PM

Re: Skins Wins - predictions go here

People keep talking about our running game. Yes, I love Guice and AP. But every team we play is going to stack 8 guys in the box until we prove two things:

1. Keemun can throw to our WR group who the NFL thinks is the worst in the league. Without a lot of INT

2. The OL can protect Case while he passes.

AP and Guice are going to run into a wall of players until Case opens it up.

7-9

Dont know the game to game, but based on the team under Grudens entire tenure....8-8.

Re: Skins Wins - predictions go here

I'm going 7-9 as well...while I think the defense will keep us in some games to win, I think there will be games where teams will jump out to a lead and the offense will struggle to score period, let alone come from behind. You cannot forget all those games last year when teams scored on the defense at will with their passing game. I desperately hope they prove me and a lot of us wrong! HTTR

I generally split NFC East matchups (except I think I had us beating you guys twice, cuz without Zeke your offense is drab)

Because they are looking at the team from last season's results and trying to factor in the changes. But last season's results for us vs philly were skewed by the loss of our QB, and CB's.

I am optimistic about the year even without TW, I think our running game will be so strong, Keenum will thrive with play action and reverse rollouts.

I could be wrong.

I agree with SF69.
1st and 2nd year players will be inconsistent.
Penn has finished the last 2 seasons on the IR. He's going to make it 3 years in a row. Flowers is a project at this point.

Defense will be good, probably top 10 but they aren't elite.

Special teams will be the worst in the NFL.
They get nothing in returns and coverage teams look like they will put the defense in bad spots with long returns.

This is probably a 7 win team.
9 wins if the ball bounces their way, 5 wins if things go like they have the last 2 seasons.

Fair 'nuff.

Zekes deal will be done. Probably in the next 24 hours which puts him on the field week 1.

Look in the range of 6 years, 90 million. Dollars already agreed upon. Working to finalize structure.

Even if they do give Zeke's contract finished up, he has missed all of training camp and preseason. Fact is the ewok probably will show up out of shape and need 6 weeks rest and recuperation after Payne, Allen and Ionnaidis get done flopping him around.

Could say 190 million, for all I care. All that matters is the guaranteed money.
Hearing on twitterverse, estimated 25-28 mill per year for the first three years. Then 'we'll see'.

But it is the structure of the contract (guarantees, bonuses, incentives) is what needs polishing.

Latest and greatest is Zeke is returning to Dallas as we speak to finalize the deal and put ink on it.

I'm going with 7-9 at BEST. The offense is still going to be a hot mess, and I'm certainly not sold on the linebacker nor backs on our defense. Our DL should be something else to watch though. If we win, it's going to come on their backs.

I won't be surprised if we end up with 5-6 wins though, and most likely will if we have any significant injuries.

LT
From the Hogs, to Lachey to Samuels to Williams we have had a near nonstop top tier LT protecting our QBs. Other teams have won far more with far less lines. Green Bay comes to mind off the top.

Not saying OL doesn't matter, but it also doesnt doom the season if you can compensate for it with your RB and QB positions.

I think our RBs will find and exploit creases, and just as importantly, I think Keenum showed up in Minnesota that he can guide an offense behind a weaker OL.

We may not be an offensive juggernaut with Penn at LT, but we are not going to be a deadzone either.

To be fair, Keenum also had Diggs, Thielen, and the best 3rd down defense of all time. We have none of those things.
To be fair, Keenum also had Diggs, Thielen, and the best 3rd down defense of all time. We have none of those things.
stats from Pro-Football
Diggs was a 5th round pick going into his 3rd year, never had a 1000 yard season, and had 7 touchdowns his first two years, and started 20 out of 32 games his first two seasons.

Thielen went undrafted in 2013, and was cut and put on the Vikings practice squad, then started 14 games from 2014-2016
his stat line for his seasons before 2017
yr tgt rec td
2014-13-8-137-1
2015-18-12-144-0
2016-92-69-967-5

in 2017 their respective stats were:
Diggs-started 14 games -95-64-849-8
Thielen-started 16 games-142-91-1276-4

My point is they weren't really "DIGGS and THIELEN" till Keenum got there. They might have had potential, but his play helped bring it out.

Maybe he does the same with our potential WR's

as for defense, we will see, I think our defense will be special (in a good way) this year.
