With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
Who I want them to take: Daron Payne DL
My best guess on who they will take: Vea Vita DL Most disappointed if they do take: Calvin Ridley WR |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
....we all have to wait longer as the team trades down.
|
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I still say trade down unless they trade up for Nelson or Barkley.
My hope? Trade with Dallas , they take Ridley at 13 and we take a DT and also their 2nd round pick. |

I wonder if Seattle would trade up if the right defensive back is still there. Also several teams after us need OL, so if we can coax one into jumping ahead of the rest to get their guy, that would be good. |

Either way I'd rather have the picks |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I’d love Payne or Vea.
Fingers crossed for a surprise slide by Nelson or Fitzpatrick |

Nobody needs an OL worse than we do - specifically a Left Guard. If we sign Hankins and either Wynn or Hernandez is there at #13, I'd take him. |

I don't think Hernandez is a Callahan guy, and I would rather get OL in the 2nd and get an extra pick, either mid/low 2nd or high 3rd. |

You are right, they got Lawrence who they franchised this year, we got Murphy/Long. I would rather trade with Carolina and have them get Ridley. |

I would rather trade with Carolina and have them get Ridley.[/quote] That would be fine too. I just don't see a player at 13 that says WOW we have to take him, most projections have A LB and I feel our LB group is pretty good. |

Trading down is always great...rarely happens.

Bruce Allen has been an active trader and I expect him to continue that if a 3rd or 2nd is offered. |

Happened as recently as the Josh Doctson draft. Skins slid down one slot. |

If we could trade down into the 20s, get Payne and another 2nd, sign me up

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I think we trade down to anywhere between 15- 18 and pick up a third. We then draft Guice

I disagree with you on this point. With all the QB's that are expected to go high in the 1st Round, I think it is highly likely that the Skins will again say "Wow!" and run to the podium to select a future star player. Guys like Derwin James, Roquan Smith, Da'Ron Payne, Vita Vea, Wynn, Guice, Ward, Edmunds - any of them could be there at #13 and these players are all 1st Rounders. We just don't know where these guys rank on the Skins wish list. As for picking a LB at #13, if Roquan Smith is there I highly doubt that that the Skins would hesitate to take him because of his position. If you think they would, do me a favor and don't be talking any BPA bullshit to me as we approach the draft. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
You listed 7 guys. Figuring the first 6 picks are 3qbs and the 3 elites, clearly one of those guys is there at 13. But likely 2 more qbs go and 1 or two surprise picks. If so we could try to drop 3-4 spaces. Add in a wr or 2 and we can drop to 21 and still get one of those guys.

Since reading your post, I watched Roquan Smith's highlight reel and read about him for the first time. He looks a solid pick. His speed and instincts on the field looks way faster than 4.5 time in the 40. Plus he weighed in at 236 at the combine. Plenty of size. Wow is right. |

That he relies on his speed and inferior competition to go around blocks and that he might have trouble against NFL blockers. Granted, this was not an in depth break down which he does on various players of interest for the team in the lead up to the draft but is certainly enough to make the team pause at 13. He said he liked James even though he is a S (not a premier high pick position) at 13 more than Smith. |

Why not drop to 32 or the second round? One of them might drop that far. By suggesting we could drop to 21 and still get a stud, you've gone from drafting to playing the lottery. |

Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I did not realize what a special athlete Derwin James is. The guy easily double pumps reverse dunks in hoops all day, has huge leaping ability, with really great football instincts. His tackling is rock solid. He can play FS or SS.
At 6' 3" he will fill in and be a big center fielder. Can play in the slot. He is fast 4.4 in the 40. I was watching him return kick offs and he has another gear he kicks into and out runs everyone. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
They trade back to pick #23 with New England and get a 2nd or 3rd round pick. NE needs a tackle or QB and has plenty of picks.
Then Washington can go DT, G, and RB with their first 3 picks. |

He's one of those special players the Skins might not be able to pass up in order to trade down. Of course, the Skins management may not agree with us. |

Seminoles to Redskins, I can dig it. Next Chris Thompson. He can play deep or drop down and play slot/cover TEs. Would definitely be a solid pick if he falls to 13. |

It is insane that a special athlete and talent like Derwin James might be available to us at 13. Because all of the QB desperate teams are going to reach and probably bust with QB's that really are not rated top 5 athletically. It is sad, but in our case a good thing that the glamour positions like QB take all of the headlines. IF we take need completely out of our draft process Derwin might be our man. I was watching clips of his tackling and he is incredibly disciplined. Text book. He does it old school, the way you are taught. But that kind of detail is missed in today's NFL. Sacks, Interceptions and big hits behind the line is all you see on defensive players highlight reels. |

My hope is that the Redskins sign Hankins in FA so they'll have another piece in place before they draft. Then we could fill another position instead of DL in the first round. If they don't sign Hankins, Vea would be nice although I would take Payne over Vea. I love Kiper's pick of Penny in the second round. I think he's going to be a star in the NFL. I would take him over Guice because I think Guice will get hurt due to his reckless running style. Don't get me wrong - I admire Guice's total effort on every play. I just think he's going to get hurt. Of the players who are likely to be available at #13, I would love to have one of the following: Da'Ron Payne, Roquan Smith, and Derwin James. |

Vea played only 62% of the defensive downs, Payne is a 3 down player. |
Re: With the 13th Pick the Washington Redskins select...
I don't think signing Hankins necessarily precludes us from drafting either of them. I mean:
Allen, Ioannidis, Lanier, Hankings, Payne/Vea could possibly be the best defensive line rotation in the NFL. Not saying this is my preference but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it. |
