Jordan Reed OMG thread
Watch the video in the link:
https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CXbSX19WMAALPLE.mp4 watch the defender at the 15yd line fall all over himself as Reed goes by him. Honestly, just think this guy deserves a thread for staying healthy, and being a dominant TE for the last 5 weeks Last 5 games Targets 9,8,9,7,11 Recept. 8,3,9,7,9 yds 98, 22, 120, 84, 129 Tds 0, 0, 1, 2, 2 So 36 receptions, 453 yards, 5 TD's Our offense isn't the same when he and DJax aren't on the field, and KC absolutely depends on Reed's talent. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Any player that has talent like Reed and Jax will obviously help any QB, reed is playing some elite football this yr but we have all always said he just needed to stay healthy. He's Antonio Gates all over again and Kirk will benefit for a long time because of it.. Rivers has in SD

Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Question is, who is Jordan Reed?

He is currently the 3rd best TE in football, with a chance to jump to #2 pretty easily. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
As good as he is as a receiver, that's how bad he is as a blocker. If he could just learn to block decently, he could help to improve our run game, as well.

Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
I'm surprised they haven't tried some trick plays and use his QB skills.

I wonder whether he's our 3rd string QB after Colt if they decide to sit Cousins v. the Cowpukes. Of course, why risk him if you're not risking Cousins? |

because you can't put RGIII on the field. they might just make darrell young the QB and have him hand it off every play instead though. |

He's a injury prone tight end who is athletically gifted and who has the potential to be the best TE in the NFL. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
The dude is an ace but I'm still hella scared he'll get hurt.
I bet we draft two and sign two in the off season. |

Exactly. He is not a complete player until he can learn how to block. So right now, great receiving te, below average blocker. He needs to clean this up during the off season. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
I really think Niles Paul reclaims his starting job next season. Reed will be used plenty in passing situations. But Niles can block a bit and don't forget how athletic he is too, he can shake a defender or two.
TE depth is better than we remember. |

Sure he needs to work on his blocking but that's probably never going to be his strong suit. Who cares when you can get open like he can. |

That'd make for a pretty good package because both TEs are a pass catching threat. It would make the offense unpredictable, yet built to run. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
I have to admit, I wasnt the biggest Jordan Reed fan. I liked that he was a former QB and had "athleticism" but i just didnt seem him being anything more than a decent catch-first TE. With the injuries and his growing rep as a player who would only play at 100% and wouldnt play through pain, I thought the coaching staff just couldnt trust to include this guy in the game plan.
maybe bc we never had a game changing TE, I never appreciated how awesome it is. He is match up nightmare. He catches everything thrown his way. In the gif Cred posted, he is literally breaking guys ankles. On one of his tds against the eagles, it was the same footwork that had the defender frozen and leaning hard the wrong way. And then the dude gets YAC. he somehow manages to slip just enough by defenders to get 2-3 more yards then he really should not have gotten. he is making great decisions on his read routes now. before it seemed like he always wanted to push his routes down field for big plays but now he is taking what the defenders give him and he and cousins are on the same page. i think it was late in the dolphins game when we were in the red zone, 3rd or 4th down, and the dolphins blitz hard, cousins throws the ball expecting reed to understand it is a hot route and he needs to cut his route short but reed seemed clueless and just keep running a longer developing straight route. we redo that play now, i guarantee reed recognizes and cuts it short, catches ball, td, tie game. i am amazed at what he brings to the table. i didnt think he or any TE could be this valuable. having 2 concussions on the books is a dark cloud though. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Jay Gruden in Cincy ran 2 TE sets more than anybody in the league...Will be great to see NP and Jordan on the field at the same time next year. BUT Im not convinced the TE core is strong and deep...I would like to see an addition in the offseason with a TE who can block and catch come out of the draft. Play special teams and learn the system.

Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Antonio Gates isn't making the HoF for his blocking.
|
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Paul, Reed, DJax, Garcon in a standard 2 TE set would be pretty bad ass.
Reed & Paul create real match up problems. |

Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
reed's catching ability more than makes up for his run blocking issues, the same way djax's deep speed scares everyone else.
i'd love if both of them went to the hines ward school of blocking, but your offense is WAY better with them than with whatever blocking replacement you can find, so you live with it. paul will let us go with more 2 TE when we're not in 3 WR, both formations should be really good for us. there's no way you'd ever put paul in front of reed though. NP isn't a great blocker either, though he has improved. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Blocking can be coached up, what I'd like to see from Reed is to cut down on the penalties. I think that also comes from technique/coaching.
|
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
yeah, i've never seen skill player get so many holding penalties... and they were all pretty much pointless to. he kept getting called on plays where his holds didn't/wouldn't even help if the refs missed them.
|
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
If Sleepy Davis can become a good blocker, I think Davis can get there with a little extra work and willingness.
|
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Having Paul back will be nice. But he is also a liability in the run game as well. He's just not a natural TE and often can not handle NFL LB's in the run game. He's more of an H back. Off the top of my head Paul should be Reed's backup and a standout on teams.
When we run 2 TE sets, it should be Reed as the H back, and a drafted pure TE playing the Y position. |

Run the ball? Why would we do that?!? Sent from my S6 Edge |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread

^^^with that personnel group, even as a hardcore run game proponent myself, if the defense plays base personnel? I would almost never run the ball. LBs aren't gonna be able to cover Reed or even Paul. Now against a Nickel/Dime defense I would be more balanced because I know Niles can consistently block a DB. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
^^ That's kind of what I am thinking. From that formation, they will almost never face eight in the box, but, even so, the play action has to be respected. If they don't adjust, it is a perfect offense for KC's passing style, if they do adjust, then we should be able to run over them.

Reed is not a blocking TE. He's a receiving TE. He lacks the strength that a blocking TE has. Sure....he can be coached to block but that's not who he is. |

We are not saying that Reed should be able to block like Donnie Warren. We are saying that he can't block worth a damn compared to just about any other NFL football player. We just want him to become halfway decent at blocking. That's all. |

I just want him not to have any plays where he fails to even touch the person he is supposed to block. |

I hope he does....he's probably better at cut blocking. |
Re: Jordan Reed OMG thread
Blocking is first and foremost about maintaining balance with your footwork and staying in position to maintain leverage. He's definitely athletic enough to do it, I think Matty's right it's a matter of coaching.
Niles worked on it, converting from WR to TE and has it down decently. Reed can too. |
