Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

Well, believe it or not we are a game out. We win and we will be in first place due to division record if I am not mistaken. Haven't beaten the Giants in an eternity, but we have been pretty solid at home. We are due to stick their dicks in the dirt so ..........

Yeah no serious injuries. Possibly Eli, ODB, and JPP just maybe tweak something bad enough this week so that they can't participate? [emoji6]

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

I am copying my post in another string as I think it's a pretty accurate summary of where we are:

Looking over the schedules, Dallas and Philly are in trouble, and I think the division comes down to the Redskins and Giants.

Dallas probably has 3 more losses (and maybe more) in its future. They play: Panthers (10-0), Packers (7-3), Jets (5-5), Bills (5-4), and Redskins (4-6) twice. I don't see them beating the Panthers, Packers and both the Bills and Jets (even taking us out of the mix). That puts them at 10 or 11 losses and out of contention.

The Eagles situation is arguably worse. They will probably lose at least 3 more and possibly more, as they play: Lions (3-7), Patriots (9-0), Bills (5-4), Cardinals (8-2), Redskins (4-6), and Giants (5-5). I don't see them beating the Patriots, Bills or Cardinals, and right now I like our chances and the Giants' chances against them too. That puts them at 9+ losses.

The Giants are the team to beat, and we simply must win this weekend in order to be in contention. Their schedule is a bit tougher than ours, but we cannot assume we can lose to them twice and win the division. They play: Redskins (4-6), Jets (5-5), Dolphins (4-6), Panthers (10-0), Vikings (7-3), and Eagles (4-6). I figure they likely lose to the Panthers and Vikings, and maybe the Jets. So maybe 8 losses.

As I see it, we have to go 4-2 with one of those wins against the Giants if we are going to take the division. Our opponents have a combined record of 21-28: Giants (5-5), Bears (4-6), Bills (5-4), Eagles (4-6), and Cowboys (3-7) twice. If we can beat the Giants, I think we have to beat the Bears, Eagles, and Dallas (at least once), and then we're both at 8-8, with a better record in the NFC than the Giants (who in this scenario lose NFC games to us, the Panthers, and Vikings, bringing their NFC record to 2-5).

Both teams ought to be thinking that this weekend's game will likely determine the winner of the NFC East, and I suspect both will. And I hope we come to play. Since we seem to play every other weekend, let's hope this weekend our D and running game decide to show up.

Fingers crossed:

Redskins 27
Giants 23

IMO, the money right now is on the Giants winning the division if for no other reason than Coughlin and Eli. Eli can be up and down, but he is clutch and I can see him going on a run of good performances as we draw closer to December. The Giants coaching staff is proven, they will have them ready.

With that said, the 'Skins have to be looking at this game as a must or at least near-must win kind of game. Bad division or not, how big would it to be for the team and the fan base to see "Washington 1st place in NFCE" going into December with 5 games left? Usually right now the fan base is looking at possible draft position.

The thing about the NFC East is that even though it is a bad division, it also keeps every team thinking they can win it until they are officially mathematically eliminated so especially in division games we should expect to see that extra fire in teams to go out and win.

I will be honest and say I am just not ready to say we will win this game. The Giants are not a much better team than us, but I think they have a few intangibles that this team is not exhibiting yet.

However..................I am going to go against my head and go with my heart. Hopkins kicks a GW FG as time expires. 27-24 'Skins!

Once fear I do have is that if we beat the Giants, it might set up the Cowboys to play the role of spoiler at the end of the season, and that would be heartbreaking. But I have a feeling that if a win against Dallas puts us in the post-season, our guys will be ready.

I have real admiration for Coughlin. I think he's an excellent and underrated coach, and has gotten the most out of his team more often than not. And after his early reputation as an aloof hard-ass when he was in Jacksonville, I sense that he and his players have true regard for each other.

I think Dallas could have been well ahead in the division race if they had re-signed DeMarco Murray and Tony Romo hadn't been injured.

Chip Kelly single-handedly dismantled the Eagles with numerous misguided personnel moves and he should be fired for it.

The Giants were badly hurt by injuries. I think they're just having a bad year. They could recover next season.

We had some costly injuries, but we're just getting started building a team.

Listening to the local media up here and man you would think the Giants are just a far superior team to the Skins. I mean we only have to go back to the last couple weeks. We blew up the Saints and they beat the Giants? Does that mean anything at all? I guess not.

I want this win more than any game I can remember in recent history including effing playoff games. Lol. I hate the Giants so god damned much. They lost a close game to the Pats and suddenly it is a superbowl team? Pats have been playing alot of close games. I dont think anyone in Buffalo is carrying on about how great they are because they "almost" beat the Pats.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

As long as the run game is crippled. We won't beat many teams with strong interior because Leribeus is awful.

For that reason. Our only offense will be Kirk again, and he can't do it alone.

24 Giants
16 Redskins

Domination would be a pity field goal by the Giants. 28-3 Redskins. And just for clarification, I don't think this will happen. But if Captain Kirk can get us a blowout win and the biggest comeback in Skins history in the span of 3 weeks anything is possible.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

What worries me was that looking back at the first NYG game, it truly felt that Gruden was out-coached. Also, Cousins started off bad, but had a long amount of game time left to rebound before the game got out of hand but was unable to recover.

I really hope Cousins gets off to a good start, maybe hits some passes downfield early. IMO, the offense has to come out aggressive. I am not counting on the running game doing anything much at all early, so it is imperative that the offense tries to stretch the field early to back that defense off the line.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

We have to start fast, we've got to get a 7-0 lead on them and go from there. The Giants are a solid team but not one of the better teams we've played. I think we can win but our defense has to force a TO or 2. My gut says NY by 7 though

I am not sure I agree. The WR were wide open and KC was under or over throwing them all game. IF the WRs are that open again and KC has made progression we may see a much different game than up in the meadowlands or whatever the F it is called now.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

Wasn't it the NYG that sobered us all up when it came to the defense? If I remember correctly they looked like a very solid unit in Week 1 and 2, but the Giants just picked them apart. It seemed like every WR or TE was wide open no matter what part of the field they were catching the ball in, and always had YAC.

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

The conspiracy theorist in me notes that we played the Giants the first time off a short week, and now after their bye week. I also note that we have played a lot of teams coming off their bye week or the Sunday the week after their Thursday night game (Jets, Giants, Patriots, and Bucs). A little frustrating.

Let's also not forget that this Giants team is capable of clunkers (e.g., lost to the Eagles 27-7 earlier in the season, gave up 52 points losing to the Saints, barely scraped a win v. the 49ers, and lost to the Falcons by about the same score we did). Don't get me wrong -- we have to show them respect given how they've owned us in recent years. But no one should pretend that they're the Patriots or Panthers either.

I'd like to see someone run out of bounds and "accidentally" hit their owner. And maybe Jerry Jones too, if possible.

NoCalHail 11-25-2015 05:15 PM

Re: Battle for first place Skins vs Gints pregame thread

The thing is it's not that I think the NYG are a much better team than ours or anything. I just think that besides the run in 2012 when our team's backs were against the wall, this franchise has failed over and over AND OVER again in these kinds of situations against teams that were about at the same level as them on paper. With what we have seen from the team in 2015 I am not really confident to say "This time will be different" right now.

I think a big factor in this game could be coaching, and having the team "prepared for the moment" and all those kind of intangibles. The NYG have had somewhat of a recent history of rising to these type of occasions when presented while our team instead has continued to show why they are the one team in our division that is viewed by the sports media as largely irrelevant once the season hits the later stages.

I reaaaaally hope I am wrong this time, and the team shows me something Sunday I haven't seen in a few seasons.

This is the real code red game.

Season is there for the taking.
At home. In a weak division.
Against an a beatable .500 ball club with flaws.

Win and you're in the hunt.
Lose and it could be another lost season.
Chance to beat an NFC East rival that's had your number.

What are Jay and Kirk going to do?

.....Better find a running game.

Yes, exactly, because they have had our number for years, and because the Skins have a history of not showing up for big games and the Giants do. Again, I pray that I'm wrong, as I would like nothing more than to beat the Giants this Sunday.
