How about *selling* avatars? Say for $20, you get to pick whatever avatar you want (as long as its appropriate)? It would give people who really hate the blue hats (or Chad Morton) the opportunity to change it, but also help you (and the site) out financially, too.

Just an idea.

I think it's fine as is, but if everyone else wants to change things then here's what I think. I think Matty selects the Avatars and if someone wants an avatar different than the one assigned to them (based on their posts) then they have to pay for it. But they can only select from the list given to them.

So let's say you're a camp scrub and you want a 1st round pick avatar you chip in $15, you want playmaker status you pay $20. Something along those lines.

I just wanted something a little more personal. Not a huge departure from what we have now, just a little more "Malcolm". But, I'm not a person to complain, but if there was an option, I'd use it.

I hope they dont change, that you earn your place. There will obviously be a need to adjust the levels as before long, everyone will have earned Gibbs' status. It's a tough task for Matty, who will constantly, have to hear us gripe as things change and we get dropped down to Ladell Betts and the likes.

Everyone, leave the mod's alone, and be happy that we have a venue to express our distaste with one another.

the only changes that i wouldn't mind seeing is get rid of the avatars of players who aren't on the skins.

I think you guys are completely missing the point of my original post. I agree with you on that I get tired of hearing the complaining about the avatars. This idea is meant to help out both us AND Matty. If someone doesn't like their avatar, then pay for an 'upgrade'. This should knock out a point of contention. On top of that, it will generate a bit more revenue for the site.

So why is it that you guys don't like this idea?

Mattyk72 is the admin of this site, so it would go directly to him. He would use the money to make the site better, in much the same way the donations ([url="http://www.thewarpath.net/announcement.php?f=33"]http://www.thewarpath.net/announcement.php?f=33[/url]) have.

My whole reasoning behind this is to
a) Give the people who annoy others with their avatar whining a viable solution, and thus no have no excuse to whine.
b) Maybe come up with a little extra revenue for site maintenance/ enhancements/ etc at the same time.

To clear my name from anything that I've previously implied. I love the design of the site, and I wouldn't change anything HOWEVER if I were given the option of buying my own avatar, I would definitely do that.

I really dont think changing advatars would change the site all that much. When you look at "that site"; everyone knows, its Extremeskins. The thing that really bothers me are the "sigs". Those things are so damn annoying and take up half of the room on the sites. Advatars on the other hand; as long as they stayed in that little box, I dont think would bring down the site in the slightest. Really, I could care less though; but if this was put into place, I would buy one.

I like the idea of maybe coming up with a bunch of avatars to choose from, but I also know alot of people like how you kinda have to earn your stripes on the board. We'll see, it's definitely something to think about.

I think you have to reach a certain level before you get to pay for an upgrade. A camp scrub can't just come in here, register and jump to playmaker status

Maybe have 3 different avatars for each status. That way you STILL have to earn your stripes, and when you do, you can select from 3 different playmakers.

Personally, I don't think that you earn your stripes by the number of posts you have. You earn your stripes by your well thought out posts and board etiquette. Take for instance JoeCrisp. He doesn't have the highest post count in the world, but he would rank in my list of top 3 posters simply because everything he says is so well thought out and he doesn't post just for the fact of bumping up his post count like others do.

This is kind of why I've been a champion to the idea of having the reputation feature of vBulletin go public on this site.

I dunno. I would definitely say that there are very prolific and intelligent posters, but I would say that a lot of people simply respond to what is being talked about. I know that I, and I'm sure many people, don't always have paragraphs of well-thought-out sypnoses of what to say, but have a valuable and succinct opinion nonetheless.

Can we just drop this subject already. Matty said he was going to change it later towards trainning camp. Lets let it be and let the mod be creative in the way he wants to set it up. I originally posted my displeasure with the Morton Avatar and asked for a change, and Matty explained that its best to wait for trainning camp. I said OK, so we should respect the boss and just drop it.

Perhaps I come off a bit grumpy with the avatars and that's really not my intention.

Feel free to discuss it all you want. I like some of the ideas and thoughts that are being brought up.

I'm just responding to what has been proposed. But if you DO like the idea of having multiple avatars for multiple "levels" of posting, I think that might be an all-around solution for the people who don't want say, CHAD MORTON ;). Maybe give Antonio Brown, Chad Morton, Prioleau (sp?)...

So I guess then if constructive disscussion is wanted, then out of curioasity how come it is so difficult to change the Avatar settings. Is it a very technichal issue or does it take a tremendous amount of space up on the site. I understand the setiment about not junking up the site like some of the other sites around and I am all for that. But the same box ones with diffferent players seems to be a simple fix. Is it not?

It's not a technical issue at all. This is just the way we've done it. I'm open to changing it though.

Seriously though, I prefer to wait until we can get pics of some of the new Skins, and do the avatars over all at once rather than doing some here, some there.
