Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Well Yahoo has already opened up their FF registrations and my first draft is July 30th for a winners league which sux because its way to early imo. Im coming off a bad season, won 1 of 5 leagues and finished 9th in my pay league (which Ive never finished out of the money). I'm opening camp early this year and gotta coach my guys up in order return to imaginary football stats dominance.
Lots of questions going into the year. First a ton of coaching changes which will affect the offenses and therefore some players value(biggest ones: Norv cordinator in Cleveland, Reid in KC, Trestman in Chicago, Arians in Arizona). The evolution of the zone read option which brings more stats to QB position as more QB hybrid into a RB role. Lotta new RBs will get opportunities to start this year as well. My first rankings of the top twenty players in non PPR format: 1. Peterson 2. Doug Martin 3. Megatron 4. CJ Spiller 5. M. Lynch 6. Foster 7. McCoy 8. Jamal Charles 9. AJ Green 10. Ray Rice 11. Julio Jones 12. Aaron Rodgers 13. Richardson 14. Brandon Marshall 15. Demarylius Thomas 16. Jimmy Graham 17. Drew Brees 18. Stephen Jackson 19. Alfmo 20. Dez Bryant What do you think? Who are your sleepers? Especially at RB? Give me your top ten. |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
I can't give you top 10 at RB, but I will give you my #1 strategy for this year, and that's "wait on a QB". I won my league last year drafting Megatron early. I am in a Keeper league and a lot of the good RBs are kept each year so my draft is a little unusual, so other positions get drafted earlier than normal in my league, but I think getting good RBs and WRs early is key this year. Now that there are RG3s and Russell Wilsons and Cam Newtons, the drop in stats is not that big from the top 3 or 4 QBs to the next tier. Yes, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Manning are studs, but at some point one of these young guys with their rushing stats are going to overtake the top 3 guys or at least make the stat discrepency between the top and the next tier not as great. However, I had Megatron AND A.J Green last year and that consistency each week helped me win my championship. My RBs were Lynch (keeper) Ridley, and McGahee, (later Moreno). I drafted Peyton Manning in round 4 with his question marks and it paid off. I think Brady's stats drop off this year and even with Welker joining Manning, is hard to see him improving. Maybe he will, but I think there are some young QBs with more upside.

Hard to believe it's getting to that time already, but I guess I better fire up the WP leagues soon.

haven't done a warpath league yet, but should this year.. i'll look for a thread or something.

Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
My big question for this year, I get to keep two out of these three players: Brees, McCoy, and AJ Green...which two will I keep?
|
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Green is an easy pick.
Its tough not hold onto Brees. Over the last 5 years he's the touchdown and yardage leader. How will McCoy adapt to new system/new coach? Ive already heard Brown his backup will be getting significant touches. |

My absolute biggest mistake in my leagues last year was ignoring the QB position (second was drafting Macfadden in 2 leagues). I usually use your strategy. My #1 rule is never take a QB first round. 2nd is dont take injury prone players which I broke with taking D-MC twice. I just thought after his dominant preseason he was going to have his best year...big time wrong and he got injuried again. So even though I love Percey Harvin as a player...you wont see him on any of my teams. 3rd rule is always draft a Kicker in the last round. |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
I have some tough decisions to make as I play in a 4 player keeper league and at this point, only see two real keepers.
Brady ( have owned him for 10 years now but has NO ONE to throw to) Morris ( drafted him late last year, KEEPER!) Brandon Marshall (looks like he's finally found a home, another keeper) Mendenhall ( reunites w/ his old OC ) Moreno ( came on strong after Magehee got hurt ) Aaron Hernandez ( have owned for the last two years but he may never play again) |

I think you have to hold on to Brees because he's going to get 5,000 yards and 30+ TD's He's one of the elite QB's that you have to keep. And I would keep McCoy over Green because he can get your both running and receiving TD's, plus he won't come off the field. Green is a stud but I think WR's are the easist position to find diamonds in the rough. |

I have a funny thing about skins on my fantasy team...i dont like to pick them on my squad personally. But im factoring in the Shanny effect here. Shanny falls in love with other RBs too often in the past. I think he could be slightly higher, as we watch camp id probably move him up right behind Trent. The Norv effect on Richardson could move him as the top back in the league, but I do worry bout little injuries keeping him out. |

I think Chip's biggest probablem this year is QB play. It could hold the entire offense back. |

Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Keeper league value question. I won my league last year in a 10 team league. As a result I draft last in Round 1 (#10) and then 1st in Round 2 (#11). The way we do our Keepers is they move up one round from the previous year. I drafted A.J Green in round 2 last year so he would be a 1st round keeper, but at #10. OR I can keep Peyton Manning drafted in the 3rd round at pick #11. My 2nd Keeper is already decided, Marshawn Lynch in Round 10. Drafted him late a few years back and have just been hanging on to him each year. Manning or Green? Advice please.

Id lean towards Green and not worry about keeping Manning. You could go QB depending on keeper status of the other QB 2nd round at 11. I guess Id need more info about QBs being kept in your league already and how many you start a week (most leagues only start 1). Lynch keeper in round ten is a slam dunk and confirms to me going WR, QB at 10 and 11 an much easier decision. Id rate Green as a tier 1 WR talent, Peyton as a borderline 2/3 tier QB, and Lynch as a 1st tier RB. You grab tier 1 production guys no question. Say if Brees, Cam Newton or Arron Rogers arent kept...then for sure dont keep Peyton and go AJ keep at 10, one of those QBs first pick second round, and Lynch penciled in as a round 10 starting RB. You would then have 3 top tier producers starting at different positions each week. If you didnt go QB and still kept Green and Lynch, then Jimmy Graham the top rated TE may be a good option. And 3rd round look at Matt Ryan, Peyton, Tom Brady. |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Thanks Chico. Yeah its hard not to keep A.J. Green and maybe even get another RB/WR at 11. We only start 1 QB, like most leagues, but we start 2 RBs, 2WRs and a Flex (RB/WR/TE). My fear is that drafting in the 10 slot, which is also 11, means I'm looking at 30 and 31 coming back around. In our league Aaron Rodgers will be kept along with RG3 I believe. Brees will probably be picked in the top 9, because several RBs will be kept, so he will be gone due to him being a "best available" type guy. I'm with you however in that I think I can still win with a Matt Ryan, or maybe even a Russell Wilson in round 3/4 if Peyton is gone, and I think he will be if I don't grab him at 11.

Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
2 RBs im gonna which super close in the preseason is Jamal Charles and CJ Spiller. I think both could have a chance in knocking AP outta the 1 fantasy RB in their new offense systems and the fact both are in their prime years.
Im really eager to see how Reggie Bush is used in Detroit. Im not a be fan of Reggie, but I think Detroit was a great fit for him. Health is always a concern. Getting him in a 6th round in fantasy draft is outstanding value. |

I can see Bush being used the same way Mighty Mouse (Sproles) is used by New Orleans. I wonder if Detroit has fixed their o-line for Bush to be successful on the ground. |

Anyone drafting RGIII this year?
I did on one team. It was a live draft party at the office and they all laughed at me. Risk vs. huge reward with him. I got Bradford later as a backup. Alfred Morris went 6th overall to someone else in that draft, to a non-Skins fan. |

Williams (TB), Jacoby Jones TE: Vernon Davis D/ST: Texans K: S. Gostkowski Garcon is my token Redskins player :) |

If the player is good, i'll bet on the injury. that said, brady or rodgers will probably get you more points than an RGIII, so i wouldn't be taking him with the first tier guys still on the board. |

12 team PPR league. Drafting 6th I got:
1. CJ Spiller 2.Reggie Bush 3. Chris Johnson 4. Vincent Jackson 5. Dwayne Bowe 6. RG III 7. Pierre Garçon 8. Mark Ingram 9. Jared Cook 10. Jay Cutler 11. Kenny Britt 12. Fred Davis 13. Stephen Gostkowski 14. Steelers The most homerific team I have ever drafted, I know, but I still feel pretty good. We start 2 rbs, 2 wrs and a flex wr/te. |

I need some advice from the warpath crew here on whom to start Week 1 now that this preseason crap is over. In a Flex position should I start Daryl Richardson RB Rams against the Cardinals, Garcon against the Eagles, or Ryan Mathews against the Texans. Projections tell me Richardson, so why am I leaning towards Garcon? |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Does anyone think Dexter McCluster is worth a roster spot over Sanu, Riley Cooper or Blaine Gabbert? It's 20 team PPR
I would drop Gabbert but there aren't enough starting qb's around the league to where everyone would have a backup that plays so that's his value to me. |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Nope
|
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
Did anyone draft Daryl Richardson this year? I drafted him for depth and to use in my Flex position but I'm struggling with what to do this first week.
Non-PPR, 2 WR and a Flex. I have A.J. Green, L Fitzgerald, Garcon and Daryl Richardson. Two of the receivers need to start, but then do I start the third over Richardson? Or do you guys always start a RB in a flex if you have one? |

I think you have to go Tate over Mathews. First, Mathews has a tough matchup like you've mentioned and second, how many carries do we all realistically think Arian Foster is going to get in Week 1? Ben Tate is a better RB than Mathews if the number of carries is the same, and I really think the Chargers will be playing from behind early and that will mean passing and "Danny Woodhead time" for the unfortunate Ryan Mathews owners (of which I am one as well) |
I did an auction draft for the first time last night. 3 hours! Not sure that was worth it, but it was fun and different from a standard draft as well.
Let the games begin!!! |
Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
I love Auction drafts, but I cant get my guys to do one. I think you have to have real die hard players to do one. You will find guys who study for their drafts like they would the ACT, and other guys who show up unprepared picking Percy Harvin and Aaron Hernadez. The unprepared guy can luck into a straight pick draft but he will fail miserably in an auction draft.

Re: Fantasy Football 2013 Thread
What sleepers did people grab this year and put on bench or in the line up? Couple of mine:
1. Jordan Cameron TE - Norv and his TEs, loves them. I got Vernon Davis on alot of my teams, Jordan is his back up in most leagues. 2. Kai Forbath - No sleeper here, but if he plays the entire season on a good offense and continues his hot preseason start, he could be a top 5 kicker. 3. Ryan Mathews - Now that the hype is over, snagged him in a couple leagues 8-9 rounds for bench/flex spot. Solid preseason. 4. TY Hilton - Able to get him on the bench in a couple leagues, like the playmaking ability and the fact Luck and him seem to be on the same page. 5. Ben Tate - Foster just not right and has a injury history. Tate is coming into his prime, Kub already said 30% of the snaps when Foster is starting regardless. 6. D Jax - I got him on 1 bench and a 3rd starting WR in a couple other leagues. Coming back from injury and new coach pushed his stock down, but they are thin at WR and Kelly offense will score. 7. Josh Gordon - Another Brown? Like the speed and the fact he dropped in ranking due to his 2 game suspension. Norv offense and got on the bench in a couple leagues. Who you got? |
