The animals give their affection unconditionally, and they are less judgemental thread
14 months ago me and my wife rescued a ten year old shitzu. Three months later we found out she was a diabetic. She has a had a tough life, and now must endure two insulin shots a day for the rest of her life. It is expensive and inhibits our ability to vacation, or even spend a night out. We love her to death though and she is worth every penny and hour we spend. Three days ago she suddenly got very sick. Our Vet gave us some not so great news, and was basically preparing me for the her to be put down. We took her to a very expensive animal hospital, and spent alot of money ( that we barely have) to get her better. In those three days, I have had my hopes raised and dashed. Cried, prayed, gotten angry, and accepted the fact that we made her last year her best year. Than this morning the vet gave me some good news. We might be taking her home tomorrow. I know she is a pet and not a child, friends and family come first, but for those of you who love your pets you know how much they can become part of the family. I posted this story in the super happy fun thread and explained that I have been thinkin about starting a pet thread throughout my ordeal RedskinRat cemented the thought and the "says it all" title of the thread. It is my hope all of the pet lovers, or haters can share their good, sad, or flat out insane thoughts on pets here. Maybe if someone has a sick pet and has no answer (like me for three days) somebody else can shed lite because of their own experience and actually save an animals life.

I did if you are being serious. That sounds like it is more directed at those mother****ers than our little furry friends? Lol Seriously is this a duplicate type thread? |

The cat likes to weave between my legs on the toilet.
Or stare at me like I'm doing something horrible. |

Re: The animals give their affection unconditionally, and they are less judgemental thread
I love pets and when we move we are getting a dog from a local shelter. I'll still say the best dog is the one that is happy and healthy and right when their heath starts to go they get hit by a car. Clean and quick and no Vet Bills.

Yeah, my Maine Coon did that with cups, glasses and any breakable I wasn't quick enough to catch. I thought it was amusing, my ex-wife somewhat less so. He was also a mofo for shredding couch and chair fabric. I like the willful challenge at at the end. Cats rule! |
Re: The animals give their affection unconditionally, and they are less judgemental thread
My neighbor has a one year old English Lab that I've known since he was a month old puppy. It is the perfect relationship. The dog freaking loves me and I don't have to worry about feeding, walking, cleaning, taking him to the vet, spending loads of money, etc, etc. I'm basically the dogs cool uncle.

Good job Punch!
....when I think about whether or not to spend money like that.......I think, what else could I do with it that would buy me so many good feelings? ............nothing AND, it is the right thing to do. My neighbors dog barked at me today.
So I hit him with my snow shovel. But its OK, he started moving again a few minutes later. |

Must be an amazing experience. Arent to many of those critters in Jersey, but when I lived in Lake Tahoe i had bears and coyotes in my yard alot. I think the coyotes ate our cat but I didnt hold it against them. I remember falling asleep to the howls. Magical stuff. I will save the link in my favorites or just visit it here in this thread. We make donations when we can. My wife is pretty passionate about the animals and she is the holder of the paypal in our house. Its tough getting her to donate to the WP -she is alittle less passionate about football! Sorry Matty - ill be donating here asap also. Lol. Edit: dont know if coyotes howl technically? Sounded like screams - still very cool. |

This is my dog Mac. I'm not gonna lie, I love coming home every day and having him announce my presence to my entire street. I think he's a mix of a beagle/foxhound, I know one of his parents was a beagle and he's got beagle ears but he sounds like a foxhound. Here's another picture of him the day we brought him home back in 2009. |

The one on the rite is the one i almost lost yesterday. The one on the left is her best friend. When she came home after two days he walked over and put his head up on the couch where she was laying and just stood there for like five minutes. Im not sure what he said to her but It was priceless. Edit: Coco is the boy and Juliette is the girl. Before i met my wife and her dog i didnt think id ever have a small poodle named Coco but he is one kick ass dog. Im glad his lady friend is home tonite. |

I'm into fish rescue. It's tough work because these are two we tried to keep from drowning and they did not make it.
So we dicided to dress them up and give them a nice fair well party. |

They are just delaying their own pain. |

I have friends who spend thousands on a pet and some that will put the pet down if their bill start to add up. A pet is like a family member and its a tough decision for most to make. |

Also I see people spend tons to keep a animal alive and in all honest the animal be better off dead. They are just delaying their own pain.
Depends if the animal is in pain though. Usually if their is pain people are advised to do the humane thing. It gets tough when its more of a quality of life issue. Its the same way with humans really. People get old, they dont know who or where they are. They might be in pain. They pump them full of enough meds to keep them alive and make the pharmaceutical companies rich, but there is no chance they are ever going to get better, younger, or more aware. My Grandmother was in a home, and going to see her like that at the end was just horrible. She thought i was my dad. Didnt know my dad though. She used to talk about the people upstairs in the water. She would get into her room and ask me if i had seen Nate. Nate was my grandfather who died in 1980. In all honesty - at that point i knew she was better off dead, but since she was in no pain it was difficult to think that way. Same for the pets imo - not on the same level but its the same principal. Life can really suck sometimes. |

It was a bad year for fish rescue. Seems everyone we tried to save from drowning died within hours. I guess we just got ther a little too late. |

We received two residents who had been shot and needed emergency medical attention, two that had cancer related surgeries, One of the Panthers had several medical procedures to correct Urinary probs....and many more I cannot remember. I have literally seen folks spend that kind of money on a domestic cat/dog. Even if I thought about it in the life span of my two dogs , ten years old each, i probably have dropped $12 - $15k on them. We always joke that the mutt dog finds something that is expensive to treat yet it is inhumane to put him down over it. IT really is not the pet owners to blame as much as the money hungry vets. We had a vet literally tell us we needed to have ACL surgery on my dog at the tune of $4k took him for a second opinion and the other Vet said dog has hip issues let him rest and give him joint meds. 6 weeks later he was back to his old self. I should have reported the other Vet. She telling my wife she could see the acl damage on the xray; BS can't see a tendon on an x-ray. Seriously using peoples emotional attachment to their animals as a means of extorting money from them is just plain evil. |

funny thing is now a days that is like the big surgery for dogs. ACL repair. I know plenty of folks that have had it done to their dogs. Must be big profit.
