RG3 cleared to play (update)
Will RG III miss more games? - NFC East Blog - ESPN
Ed Werder said on SportsCenter this morning (above) that he'd spoken with "a prominent orthopedic surgeon; not one on the Redskins' payroll" who said that Griffin's injury -- a sprained lateral collateral ligament -- was "typically a three-week injury at minimum." In talking to people with the Redskins, Ed says, he's told that Griffin's movement has improved and that the Redskins "have reason to hope" he can play Sunday against the Eagles in Philadelphia. But it appears as though this could drag on through this week, as it did last week, before we know anything for sure.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
This is probably the same prominent orthopedic surgeon that said the same thing the day after the injury happened.
I'm 100% confident that we can beat the Eagles with Cousins. However, i'm not confident that RGIII can beat the cowboys in his first game after an injury and not playing for 21 days. He'll certainly have some "rust," atleast early on. It also may take the rest of the offense some time to get back in a rhythm with him. Basically, i think our chances of beating Dallas dramatically improve if RGIII plays sunday. That said, if he's not healthy, he's not healthy. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
I lol'ed at this because just last week "expert" on ESPN said this was typically a "2-week injury minimum". Now its 3? Next week 4? I guess to build suspense its a whatever week injury.
Shanny says he wants the OUR doctors to clear it and perfers the knee is 100%. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
I firmly believe he'll be out this week with a possible return for next week.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Well Shanahan has said it will be up to the team doctors, but if he can play he will because "that's what he's paid to do"
I think again it will come down to Saturday night. My understanding for today's practice is that the team will prepare as if KC will start In other news, Redskins announced they signed LB Vic So'oto to their active roster and G Pat Boyle to the practice squad |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
As much as we could use Gryphon for our run at the playoffs, taking care of his health long-term is a much more important priority. If he needs to sit, sit him.

Some players come back rested and reinvigorated from a few weeks off during a long season of hits. It is not like he is sitting on a couch on full rest, eating and getting fat. He is rehabbing, working out and practicing. The stability and strength of his already operated right knee is the true test. Lets not expose him to risk of a year long injury by rushing him back before the joint is fully recovered and back to full strength. Play him if he is ready. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
For what its worth, according to Rich Campbell on ESPN980, team doctors cleared RGIII to play last week but Mike and Kyle chose to sit him because he didnt look like himself in practice.

Interesting. Did not know that |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
OK, so we'll just beat the Eagles with Captain Kirk then.

IF this is true, the chances of RGIII not playing this week are pretty minimal . . . |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
well, i just picked up kirk cuh on my fantasy team

re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Saw that Monty's practicing today. Mod's, can we make this a RG/Monty watch thread or something?

re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Robert Griffin III will still be Washington Redskins starter when he's healthy - ESPN
"We're going to play Robert when he's 100 percent," Shanahan said. "When that ligament's fine, when the doctors feel there's no chance for injury that he can go out there and perform at that level in a game situation without injury, we're going to go with our starter."
"Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday that he's still waiting for a thumbs-up from the doctors before declaring that Robert Griffin III can return to game action."
This does not sound like any doctor giving RGIII the green light last week. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
@granthpaulsen #Redskins practice update: Will Montgomery & Tyler Polumbus are both in uniform/helmet for practice. Not sure how much they'll get to do.
OK, so we'll just beat the Eagles with Captain Kirk then.
That's the route I'd take. I said last week we should play Cousins for Cleveland AND Philly to make sure RGIII is ready for Dallas and the postseason...and the long-term. We're on a roll as a whole team right now, even the D. We can beat Philly with Cousins. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
I'm not at all concerned. I'd rather RG3 sit out another week anyway. Let Cousins play at quarterback against the Eagles and let RG3 start against Dallas. We can beat the Eagles with Cousins. We then can beat Dallas with a healthier Rg3!

re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Don't get me wrong -- I have faith in Cousins and I do think that the Redskins are a better team than the Eagles (by a fair measure). But this could be Andy Reid's last home game coaching for the Eagles, and there may be a lot of emotion going into this. I expect the Eagles to fight like hell and play like they have nothing to lose (which they don't). No one should be overlooking that team, despite the beat down we visited unto them the last time. They key will be to get an early jump on them and take their hearts out of it quickly. If we can go up a couple of TDs early, we might take the fight out of them. If they're in striking distance late in the game (or, heaven forbid, have a lead), we're going to be hard-pressed to win it. And for this reason, if RGIII is healthy, we should definitely play him.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
if RG3 can go, you gotta play him. I think we can beat philly with eiter guy, but 3 weeks without game time vs a not crap dallas team might be a bad idea.

That's one scenario and you may be right. But it may also be true that if we take an early lead, a demoralized Iggles team folds like the French in WWII. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
i'd feel much better with RG3 playing, so if he is healthy, i want him in.

ESPN doctors are slightly less credible than Warpath doctors. |

And I like the idea of leaving them in ruins. (Still bitter about the Body Bag Game and the Vick-beat down -- I will never forgive that.) |

RG3 will not have a drop off in production if they wait until the final game to play him. He's still getting reps in practice..... |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Looks like Monty will start, though that's not official. Said he fully participated in practice and feels fine. Right arm is just bruised.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
McCoy to start Sundays game. Frankly, I'm not sure why they'd risk him.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Tyler P just said via ESPN980 that he should be fine to play Sunday also. Not official though.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Sounds like Robert could play if they absolutely needed him to. Said his knee feels "really good".
|
I love KC but of all the qb's that you could have used as an example of great careers - Troy? Lol
Edit: love the buzz cut - looks less like Beck |
After that press conference i am very confident rg-3 will play. Took all first team reps and coaches liked what they saw. I suspect we will wait on an announcement to make the iggles wonder though.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
I say RGIII plays. He left very little doubt in his press conference that he is fine.
He did say in the press conference him sitting out last weeks game was a coaches AND doctors decision. So that claim it was only a coaches decision was not fully accurate. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
The people asking questions in the press conference were not very good. Nobody asked him if he will be wearing a knee brace if he plays this weekend.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
If it's up to RG3 he will play, and if it was up to him he would have played last week, thing is the call isn't up to him. I'm not sure which way this goes.
|
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
The type of injury RG3 sustained takes 3-4 weeks to heal. He probably could play and his knee probably won't give him any problems. But it may be the healthier choice to sit Griffin out another week and allow Kirk Cousins to start again. The Redskins are playing a TERRIBLE Philadelphia Eagles team. We don't need RG3 this week. Play him the final game against the doo doo boys.....

How bizarre it is to hope that Polumbus starts. |
re: RG3 cleared to play (update)
Sounds like Monty and Tyler will play. Monty is in pain but can play through it.
