KC Chiefs' Player Commits Murder-Suicide

Man, this is heartbreaking. Unconfirmed reports say LB Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend, drove to the Chiefs facility and in front of Crennel shot himself to death

I was just signing in to post about this, but I didn't realize the guy did it in front of Crennel. This is a horrible situation but that fact just makes it all the worst.

My heart goes out to the Chiefs and their fans.

It's unconfirmed, and I can't stress that enough, that he came in to the facility distraught. Crennel and Pioli were there. He shot himself in front of them

Wow, thats gotta be a first every in pro sports? I'm a bit younger, 37, can't remember anything else quite like this? Really just awful, can't imagine seeing that. How can they play the game tomorrow?

WOW! That's the last thing the poor chiefs need. The saddest part is that today was his birthday and leave an infant child behind. Very Tragic news.

I hadn't heard of anything that dramatic before. Except in the Last Boyscout. Can't believe he has a child though, that is heartbreaking for the child. As far as the player, I don't have much sympathy for a guy who kills someone and then themselves. Petty selfish act.

That's absolutely horrible. Two people's lives gone for no reason. My heart goes out to their families and to Crennel and Pioli (if they indeed witnessed this).

So it is being confirmed that Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel witnessed the suicide.

Re: KC Chiefs' Player Commits Murder-Suicide

According to this, not only did Crennel and Pioli witness the suicide, but the girl's mother witness the murder.
Police Capt. David Lindaman said Belcher, 25, and his girlfriend, 22, got into an argument around 7 a.m. at their home in the 5400 block of Crysler Avenue in Kansas City. Around 7:50 a.m., Lindaman said, Belcher shot his girlfriend multiple times. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Lindaman said Belcher’s mother, who was visiting the couple and their 3-month-old daughter, witnessed the shooting and was being interviewed by police.

Belcher left the scene on Crysler and went to the Chiefs practice facility at Arrowhead, police said.

Police were called to the stadium around 8:10 a.m. When Belcher arrived there he encountered General Manager Scott Pioli, Coach Romeo Crennel and other team personnel. Police said Chiefs staff attempted to keep Belcher from committing additional acts of violence. When police arrived, they heard a gunshot and found that Belcher had shot himself in the head.
Wow. I cannot believe what I'm hearing. Just plan shock. There must be something wrong with that franchise if a player wants to kill himself in front of his HC and GM. Didn't someones obituary a few weeks ago read "died because of watching the chiefs play"?

this is just crazy and very very saddening to hear..

Yes, this is very sad. I hope it wasn't no classical stuff where he caught her cheating and then he decided to knock her off and thought his career and life was over so he went ahead and took his own life. If it is, I'm just at a lost. If she was creepin' a man is supposed to let her go. Period.

What a sad story. I actually was really hoping the NFL would have postponed that game. Honestly doesn't seem right playing tomorrow. To have the guy commit suicide in front of Pioli and Crennel is absolutely tragic. And I can't imagine the organization is in any spirit to play, it doesn't matter is they are 1-10.

It's unbelievable that a mother witnesses her daughter's murder and let the killer walk away.

Before you kill someone and then wanna kill yourself, just kill yourself first.

I think it was his mother in the house. The article on ESPN stated that the authorities were confused at first because when she called 911 she stated her daughter was shot.

I don't know why that part about him thanking Crennel and Pioli made me feel better when I first read it. I mean the guy killed his girlfriend and as if that wasn't bad enough he apparently did it right in front of her mother. I should just be happy he's gone.

How about his little 3month old that I am sure was in the house. Maybe mom was trying to protect their child. Shocking and sad. I have no sympathy for the man.

One word....

Coward.

Way to take your child's life and completely destroy anything close to normalcy. Good on ya sir.

I feel for all of those effected, but I have a very hard time feeling bad for the "man".

I'm curious to look at the chiefs injury report from the past couple of weeks to see if be showed up with a concussion. Because we have learned with recent research and events (seau) that head trauma can lead to people going insane.

redskins5044 12-01-2012 10:50 PM

I'm surprised they are still playing this game tomorrow. A player just killed himself at the team facility in front of a number of staff members and GM.

Something's in life are more important than football, those who witnessed it and teammates need time to grieve and receive some counseling.

He obviously has some serious issues, hard to feel bad for him when he killed his girlfriend in front of his mom and kid, basically leaving his child without either parent. I feel for the families.

Re: KC Chiefs' Player Commits Murder-Suicide

In this case specifically it would not have a long term remafication for either teams playoff chances if the game was moved to Mon or Tues. Something as tragic as this would warrant some time to handle the emotions of the what the organization has just been through.

I agree, sometimes the NFL IMO gets a little selfish, how does Romeo coach tomorrow? Or even sleep tonight? Seriously that's bush league IMO
