Shanahan said what?
Mike Shanahan says Redskins had ‘playoff-caliber’ offense in 2011.
Does he know how many games we won? Did he even notice our QB situation? WTF? Mike Shanahan says Redskins had ‘playoff-caliber’ offense in 2011 - DC Sports Bog - The Washington Post |
Re: Shanahan said what?
I dont like the feel of that interview if I am in the RG3 to DC camp.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Didnt he get Shutout for the first time in his career? Seemed like they went a month w/o scoring a TD, unless it was during mop up time.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
He's talking up his team like a head coach is supposed to do. What is he going to do? Slam his own guys? He makes a great point. Our offense was doing well until we had all those injuries. Our starters were killing it in the ZBS until the wheels fell off the wagon with all the injuries we had.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Take away the injuries and who knows. I think that's all he was saying.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Shanahan says a lot of things, and I don't put much stock into half of them.

IMO it wouldn't have been as bad if they hadn't put Ch(B)eckdown in for Grossman. That coupled with our injuries sank our offense. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
We do not have any playoff caliber QBs, thats just nuts.
Sounds like something Vinny would say. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
Grossman did go to a SB... just sayin'
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
He basically said could of been without all the injuries and mentioned they need depth. Best thing i took out of it is you can't bet the farm on that 1 guy which re-enforces there approach of not giving up the farm to get 1 player.
Goes back to the Beck/Grossman thing last year. He is being a Coach here not a true talent evaluator. He knew last year our QB situation was not the best but instead of saying our QBs suck but we'd have to give up too much to get somone better and have a ton of other needs to address, he gave the guys on the team his full backing and created competiton for the spot. Good for him. He is doing the same thing here. Who is giving 100% for the guy that told the nation you weren't good enough, but it's how we have to handle it and we have a plan in place to eventually replace that person. Shanny keeps getting blasted because people take his word as gospel. He might not be the best at lying but he does it to protect and inspire the players on his roster. Even with McNabb. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
IMO the Skins bagged the season when they panicked last year and went to Beck. That was the only thing Shanny has done that I didnt think was a good move and I suspect he wont panic like that again.

He rode there on the Brian Urlacher/Devon Hester train. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
LOL, is that Lavar or Chad Dukes posting?
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
my all time favorite Shanny quote and excuse:
"The cardiovascular endurance that it takes to run a two-minute, going all the way down with no timeouts, calling plays, it's just not easy. If I thought it was the best situation to do, then Donovan would have run the two-minute offense." lol Shanny is a card |
Re: Shanahan said what?
It's painfully annoying to have an HC who says things devoid of reality. At no point in the last two seasons did any facet of the team approach playoff caliber. As pointed out in the article...the offense was shockingly anemic before all the injuries.
This article doesn't bode well for the rest of the Shanny adventure. He doesn't seem to grasp we need an overhauled scheme and new coaching attitude on offense. At no time did Kyle's, or is it Mike's, ahhhh hell who knows, at no time did the offense show the tempo of a solid offense, let alone playoff caliber. And the scheme, which seems to rely on defenses being weak in the middle of the field, isn't going to take flight regardless of the personnel. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
Well dang, I guess we'll be taking a defensive player with the first pick then.

Re: Shanahan said what?
why add imo? if you're posting it, it should be your opinion. just saying...
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Likelihood of this team going to the playoffs in the next two years w/o Peyton Manning under center and commanding the offense is basically 0%. Hard to see Mike/Kyle taking the backseat though, given the ego there.
This is where a GM needs the will and authority to step in and tell the coach(es) they WILL do what's actually best for the team, regardless of pride and ego, or pack your bags. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
I am a Spice Girl.
That statement has as much validity as what Shanny said. And I would not expect anyone to worry much about his statement or mine. |

Just avoid nonsensical statements! No reason to bring up the playoffs lol and if the dumb little interviewer mentions them you say "Playoffs!? Playoffs? Playoff!?" lol |

Re: Shanahan said what?
I can understand the tone of the article being having a negative effect in drafting RGIII.
I think you can also make a case that the tone of this article does make a strong case in the coaches mind for signing PM. |
Re: Shanahan said what?
I see it as posturing with the Rams. Shanny saying don't expect a bidding war. We are going to make an offer take it or leave it.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Lol @ this thread. Just sayin, imo.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
if it were not for all the fumbles lost, the interceptions thrown, and the holding penalties, we would have been in the playoffs!

.......it had to be said |
Re: Shanahan said what?
I thought we looked real good in our first few games. I agree with shanny that if we had no injuries, then we could be a bottom tier playoff caliber offense, but then again every team has injuries. NYG had a bunch this year, as did GB last year. Depth is what makes teams go.
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
Injuries hurt a bunch so who knows? It was only four games, but the offense wasn't playoff caliber in those first four games.

Exactly what I was thinking. My take away from it is Shanny publicly saying, "we aren't bad and could still be in the playoffs next year with someone other than RG3 under center. In fact, Tanenhill and some depth and we'll be just fine. We'll talk with the Rams, but we have options." What do you want him to say? "We suck and are willing to give up everything for the second pick but since we have nobody worthy of playing in the NFL on offense we'll suck for years." |

Re: Shanahan said what?
The NFL is so Machiavellian these days it is difficult to know what someone truly believes
|
Re: Shanahan said what?
....injuries more then anything else will kill a super bowl season.:drink
Timing of injuries might matter more than who gets injured. The Giants had a ton of defensive injuries in the preseason, and their defense in the regular season was awful enough to have kept them out, but their defense in the playoffs was good enough to win it.
The Giants couldn't have won the super bowl (maybe not even made the playoffs) if all those preseason injuries happened during the season. |
