Fred Davis Tagged
NFL.com reports Davis, not Landry, received the franchise tag.
I think it's a good move considering Landry's heel issues. A dominant TE seems to be a must these days. |
Good

Re: Fred Davis Tagged
He will be needed for our next starting QB, who ever that may be.

PFT: Franchise tag for Fred Davis isn't a done deal, yet.

If anything he's more of a risk for being a candidate to be released due to his lack of wanting to have surgery. As much as I like him and his size I'm just not understanding him not getting it done prior to last yr and not having it this yr after he saw how it made his bad play look worse. |

I agree but I believe the popular thinking was that the franchise $ amount for a safety was fairly low (compared to other positions) so the skins could lock him up for another year without too much of a commitment. |
Re: Fred Davis Tagged
Boring title is boring. What about something with PIZAZ!!!! "TAG YOUR IT: THE TALE OF HOW THE UNWANTED SECOND ROUND TIGHT END BECAME A FRANCHISE PLAYER!"

Very clever! Some people could not have strung that together. I've learned something about you. :) |
Re: Fred Davis Tagged
Excellent news. I was thinking between LaRon Landry and Fred Davis, which one of them was more worthy of the franchise tag? Davis, a weed head en route to kicking the habit, or Landry, a often injured player who has shown no sign that he will heal from his injury anytime soon? Since Davis has been more productive and meant more to the team in terms of playing time, consistency, and overall production, I feel he was worthier of the tag.

Whatever the avg salary is for the top paid tes |
Re: Fred Davis Tagged
The franchise amount for TE's is 5.4 million - down from last year's 7.3 mil. The new CBA lowered tag amounts. They are now computed using a % of overall cap figure for the last 5 seasons (for that position) as opposed to an average of individual salaries.
TE was the lowest position to tag. Landry would have cost 6.3 mil this season (2nd lowest) so I think this was a good move now even more than before. |

i like this a lot. i hope he proves/redeems himself this season and can sign a long term deal afterwards

Re: Fred Davis Tagged
I have a question. Didn't we still have time to sign him before using the FT or was there a deadline. I thought it just had to be used before teams were free to sign free agents.

Good question. I am curious as to why free agency doesn't start right after the franchise tag deadline. |

No, the deadline to use the tag was yesterday at 4 pm. As Ruh said, I don't understand why they have that waiting period between the tag deadline and FA, but again I have extremely limited knowledge on those matters so I don't have much of an opinion on the subject. |
Re: Fred Davis Tagged
did we want to sign him anyways? i thought the plan was to give him one year of probation with the tag to see if he acts right
|
Re: Fred Davis Tagged
to tag FD is not alot, one year tag make sure he's got his SH*T together then sign him to a $$$ contract.
