Re: Cooley put on IR
Tough year for Cooley. Ugh.

Re: Cooley put on IR
crap......

Re: Cooley put on IR
There goes the season.

Re: Cooley put on IR
Everything seemed possible before the bye, now, not so much.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
Great...
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
I don't see that this affects us a lot, seems like his playing time had been steadily decreasing.
All I can say, is this is now definitely MS' team, for good or bad. Even the stalwarts of the previous era are falling, Moss, Cooley, even Fletch was out a bit last week. Time for us to see what our future holds. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
Hightower on IR, too

Re: Cooley put on IR
Bottom line, it's time for the young guys to step up.
I may be the only who feels this way, but none of these injuries are deal breakers, save London, and this team can still make a run. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
This sucks, but totally makes sense, given the depth we have at TE, and pressing needs at OL and RB. I hate to ask the question, but will Cooley be back with the Skins next year? I would expect the team to ask him to take a pay cut. I'm pretty sure that Davis will be a free agent after the season, and the FO would be wise to give him an extension before he can hit the open market.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
I think both Cooley and Davis come back next year. I mean, Cooley has a hand injury not an ACL tear. He'll be fine, but I have to think Davis is now the future at TE.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
I think we've seen the last of Cooley as a Redskin, unless he takes a huge pay cut. The era of Fred Davis has already begun.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
Sucks for Cooley and for us this year.. He's going to have to take a pay cut in order to be back in 2012.

I think it sucks too but does make sense. I thought he would have hung around and would only come back if we made a playoff push. I dont think him playing just to play this season would be worth it. Hopefully this gives him time to get his knee right too. I think he will be back. hes proven that when hes out with a injury hes still the guy that coaches other players. With Samuels gone hes probably the biggest offensive leader. I also dont think hes getting paid that much. A positive is that this could act as a bait ploy to keep Davis around. Davis is going to rightfully want some money and will also want to start. Now that he will truely be considered the teams number 1 TE for the rest of the year the starting position will probably be considered his job to loose next year. Im thinking Davis will continue as a hybrid TE/WR next year while Cooley will play the more traditional TE role. Hopefully we will actually get to see more of the 2 TE sets next year that weve been promised agian and again.... |
Re: Cooley put on IR
Feel bad for Cooley but I think his career here is over. Not really a big loss on the field cause he was a non factor. It's Davis' time and position now.

This has been a season full of surprises and the unexpected. Who would have thought teams like KC and Philly, among others, look like they're ready to climb back into the hunt. These guys are professionals, if they want it bad enough it can happen. |

I love Cooley, he has always been a gamer, but he has been almost non existent this year in terms of catching the ball, as he has been injured most of the season. The only way he stays a Skin next season is like everyone else says, he takes a pay cut. Whether he does or not I don't know, but I think he will. I don't see him garnering big money from other teams next season either, because of what has transpired this season. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
Cooley got nicked up a bit last season also. He has seen a lot of action since Gibbs drafted him. I hope Shanny retains him, but the taeam might decide to draft another TE or get a younger FA.

Paul and Hankerson will do OK once they are fully integrated into the offense, and Austin will improve as well. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
We need to replace Hail to the Redskins with this song at least temporarily.

We do have Paulsen. He's no Cooley but he looked pretty solid. Surprised me. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk |

I think CC may be cut after this year I hope not but it's a gut feeling

Well said. I do think there's a chance we would resign him to backup Davis if he takes a pay cut though. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
They might need to give Davis, Cooley's current cap number to resign him ($5 to $6 million a year).

I know. First Jenkins, then Lichenstein, T.Williams, Grossman, Moss, Hightower, and now Cooley. Wow. Paulson played well in his stead though. |

So close dude.... It wasn't after the season, he was actually cut last week to repair his knee. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
Sucks... hope he can come back strong next year.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
Cough cough, if Davis keeps giving up catchable balls he might not be retained either.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
I hope at the end of the season someone compiles the numbers on injuries league wide. It sure seems like there have been a lot more on all the teams. I have no clue if that is just an impression I have or it is really the case.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
Sigh. Hate to see a fan favorite like Cooley go down. And he needed to stay healthy and prove he still belongs this year in the worst way. I hope he comes back strong next season though.

Re: Cooley put on IR
We've always needed a youth movement, but we also need veteran players. I don't understand why everyone is so eager to get rid of a veteran like Cooley. Those that make the money argument have a point, and it will be a dialogue between Cooley and the team that I am sure will happen in the future. I do appreciate the fact that younger players are going to get more playing time, but people are talking like Cooley is 42 years old (he's only 29). You can't win with a whole bunch of old players, but you do need some balance when it comes to age.
I hope Cooley is able to come back strong next year. HTTR. |

Re: Cooley put on IR
I would like clarification on just how bad Cooley's injury really is. I remember before this season started, some sites were saying that due to the extent of his prior injury, it left his injured leg shorter than his other leg after the surgery, and this was causing his body alignment(?) or whatever to be out of whack and putting a terrible strain on his joints.
I guess now is just complications from that, but I hope he is able to come back. I had heard before he almost has a bone on bone condition, that will give him a lot of pain even when he is healed...Feel sad for the guy, he has been one of the only bright spots of this team in past years. |
Re: Cooley put on IR
Well.....I know that he can't seem to run a sideline rout to the right fer shit, but he cuts left better than like Daryl Waltrip........
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
I hope this is not the end of Cooley as a Redskin. I still think he has some good years left in the tank. The things in a season you can never truly predict at the beginning- injuries and how they will affect you and how many will pile up.
|
Re: Cooley put on IR
He shouldn't have been playing if his knee was actually worse off than expected. Tough for Chris. Wonder who the third TE will be....

Re: Cooley put on IR
Moss, CC and TH out for the season now Pretty Much... FML

I hope Cooley is able to come back strong next year. HTTR.
I think he's supposed to account for a $4 million salary next year which is the main reason. Also, it's obvious his injuries have affected his performance. He looked like a old man out there this year running. Paulsen looked faster than he has all year. No way a back up TE is going to get that type of coin, and I seriously doubt he'll see any type of decent pay on the open market. If he were to take a significant pay cut and take a back seat to Fred, then by all means keep the guy around. |
