Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Well, not a lot of love to throw around today, so I'll get my short list out of the way.
Graham Gano: I'm glad we stuck with this guy. 2-2 today including a 50 yarder, and every kickoff was a touchback if I'm not mistaken. Sav Rocca: Continues to be a great special teams weapon, as he continues to league the NFL in punts inside the opponent's 20. John Beck: Welcome to the starting lineup. Did a good job for the most part, had a few off target throws, but had a few really good throws too. Also showed us flashes of what his mobility brings to the table. 2nd Half Defense: I was disappointed with our inability to stop the run overall, but we pitched a shutout in the 2nd half despite Grossman's repeated turnovers setting up shorter fields for Philly. After a few bad 1st half series, the D did enough to keep us in it. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Beck doesn't play with the first team O all week, and comes in looking better then Grossman did all day. He practices with the first team this week and makes some of those under throws.
He just looks so much more poised. Grossman looks like he's about to get sniped by some hidden sniper out on the field. Beck looked like he's been doing it his whole life. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Should probably add Fred Davis to that list?
|
Yeah D tightened up real well. 20 pts is low for the Eagles.
|
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Yeah Gano is looking good this season. I kind of wish we let him kick that 55-56 yarder after the delay of game.

Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Fred Davis, Gano, Beck,
Davis has officially taken over Cooleys starting spot. Cooleys done. He looks slower and like he doesn't want to play. |

Shanhan said Cooley's gonna require surgery on his hand, so he's probably not going to be playing or a few weeks anyway. |

Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
I hope we can get a 3rd for him

Smoot's busy writing a novel. Fingers can be pointed all around. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
beck did good, and the defense did very good with what was given to them. to hold that team to 20 points after 4 turnovers, that is a feat in itself. Our defense is for real, our offense is for ill.
|
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Cofield had some excellent rushes where he collapsed the pocket.
Josh Wilson had some nice plays, although a couple of them occurred when he was covering for someone else's mistake. Atogwe also had some solid plays including a nice sack. Rak did a good job of bringing pressure although he needed to finish better. |

We probably should not expect much from Cooley this year; however our offense can be potent with healthy Cooley, assuming we resign or extend Davis's contract soon. Cooley can play both TE and FB, he's versatility and Shanny loves versatility players. And not to mention, Davis can line up as WR. We must use all weapons we have on the field. Davis played great today, although I think he could have prevent Rexy's int if he would reached for it. The momentum for Eagles began after that roughing passer penalty by Orakpo IMO. |

How about the offense sucking the entire game? The penalty was questionable IMO and really is the last thing the D should be worried about. If anything, they should look at the issues they had with the big runs. Great game by the D overall. I can't believe people are dogging them. |

Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
4 INTs and still have a chance to win? I give it to the D and Beck, FD86
|
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
We held Vick to 235 passing yards today. Situationally: red zone and run defense, this defense had a poor day. But I thought we proved to be the best (or second best, after SF) defense the Eagles have faced this year.
|
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
You gotta get Davis even more involved

held eagles to 20 points at home. Gotta score enough on offense to win. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Terence Austin? Only one play, but it was a fine catch.

Like I've been saying, get rid of Stallworth and play Austin. |

Stop gambling with Banks and play Austin on teams and packages. It would be a double bonus. Banks isn't helping us in the return game because the offense can't sustain drives long enough to capitalize on his minimal contribution. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
- Defense gets a nod. I think Landry, who tends to get pretty emotional, exaggerated when he said after the game our defense didn't come out w/ a purpose in the first half. The defense was juiced and took a bit to settle down and play hard and smart...I wouldn't criticize em for a second because this is the only unit on the team playing w/ heart right now.
- Beck. He kept his poise in an awful circumstance. Give him all the 1st team snaps from now on and let's see what he does. - Rocca. Dude is badass. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Beck- A man that doesn't get a single rep in practice with the first team comes in and makes the offense look WAY different and takes one in himself to boot I really wonder what he'd look like if we weren't banged up on the line
Landry- Fights to the bitter end at all times does not walk to the huddle Rocca- Nice punting |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
if your studs are highlighted by your kicker and punter... well, yeah.
I mean, i agree, but I'm a bit woozy from banging my head into walls all day. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
and at this point, we should be putting austin and armstrong in as much as possible to see what they've got. I don't think our QB play is good enough that it'll really matter, but the experience won't hurt.
the problem now though is our OL depth is worthless. we're 3 bodies short, so until we trade or draft guys better than locklear, things might be a bit painful up front. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
I thought D. Hall played solid and made a great play to give us an opportunity for a comeback. Unfortunatly Rex gave it right back...
|
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
I know we are not looking ahead yet but after that loss yesterday, I still feel like we can go to Carolina and win. In the past, Id say no way, but this team has a different feel. Of course I feel alot better knowing that Becks would be starting.
I thought D. Hall played solid and made a great play to give us an opportunity for a comeback.
Well, that's one way to put it. It ignores that Vince Young threw it right to him and he didn't return it anywhere, but at least you're right on the fact that it opened the door for a comeback part.

I don't think he played that great. On that big completion to maclin he went for the pick instead of just trying to bat it down. Of course that's the gambler in him, sometimes he'll make the play and sometimes he won't. But yesterday was an average game for him. His pick was the result of Vince Young not being up to game speed and making a careless throw as the result of pressure. |

I mean he made the play. I sure if you scroll through the games yesterday you find similar plays where the defense dont make that play on a errand throw. Bigger props to Laron getting over VY to cause the bad pass. |
Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Not many studs this week...
- Gano - love him - Rocca - love him - Beck - was impressed, he does all the things that Rex doesn't, I'm a fan - Atogwe - the only guy that understands how to tackle Vick |

I was actually a bit surprised Hall didn't make that. He closed really quickly and Maclin didn't come back to the football and use his body. That was as frustrating a play as any of the Rex turnovers. If you get in that kind of position, you have to make the play. Luckily for Hall, Kevin Barnes was terrible again, so we still need him. |

I still think he played well and gave the team a chance to turn it around. Maybe Hall keeps getting "lucky"... |

Re: Scud's Studs (Week 6 vs. Eagles)
Oh Lord... Someone mention D. Hall didn't they? We all know G Tripp senses D. Halls names like a pig on poop.
D Hall is having a good year. He's made a lot of plays for us. The INT on Sunday was pretty easy, and expected from D. Hall... Hatters gonna Hat |
