Mercedes-Benz buys the naming rights to the Superdome

Mercedes-Benz buys naming rights for Superdome, home of New Orleans Saints - ESPN

I think what's hilarious about this is Mercedes Benz putting their name on a shoddy product. If I was Benz and I was going to put their name on a stadium, I'd put it on the Cowboys or Cards, although that would probably cost more money. The Superdome recently just finished renovations from the damage from Hurricane Katrina, but like the old saying goes you can't put lipstick on a pig.

Think you might be a little too hard on the dome. They've spent a ton of dough renovating it & bringing it up to date.

Superdome is home to a recent SB champ and current SB contender.

It sheltered tens of thousands of people from a Catastrophe of near biblical proportions.

The monstrous thing is just not very attractive although it recently underwent a ton of plastic surgery.

Now that's a stadium with character.

Possibly, but that's mainly because my lasting impression of it is the squalid conditions after Hurricane Katrina. I'm sure it's definitely better now, but the question is how much better? Even if the renovations are good, it's still hard to call the Superdome a modern, state of the art stadium.

Obviously this move has more to do with all the hosting the Superdome plays, because they're going to be hosting the BCS Championship Game next year, along with the Final Four next year and the Super Bowl in 2013.

Since I live in the New Orleans area I am surrounded by folks who are upset with this. To them the place is "The Superdome," period, with no additional name needed.

God who decorated the premium ground level clubs? Archer, James Bond or Mr Roper?

I take it back, it actually looks pretty decent. Better than the Redskins bland gray concourse, and with lots of better improvements outside. I was expecting more just basic renovations, but clearly they've upgraded it.

I'm a Saints season ticket holder. It is fairly modern after the renovations, and one of the best venues I've ever attended a sporting match. I have been to over 10 professional stadiums and over 20 college or minor league stadiums. The Superdome as a venue, is at the top in atmosphere/good times as any I have visited. What it may lack in cosmetics/modernism, it by far makes up for in sheer "fun place to watch a game".

I was in New Orleans over the summer. What a great town where the people are super friendly. The Superdome is one ugly ass building on the outside. But the people down there simply LOVE The Saints. Hard to believe that Benson was thinking about moving the team. Glad he didn't.

Who owns The Superdome? Is it Benson? Or does the city own it.

The state. Before they sold the nameing rights, it has always been the "Louisiana Superdome". Known more commonly as the Dome or Superdome.

:laughing- Wow. Mercedes' lights, a Beamer grill, and a Honda piece on the hood? Whoever owns that car is completely retarded. And not just that but the all-black look is ugly, I can't tell you how many cars I see using that trend here in woodbridge.

Yep. Total joisey-schmuck jag-off, (see license plate). Takes a fine machine and rags it out barrio style. Dude could be hauling in some fine looking upper class trim, but, looks like he's trolling for the hood-rat chicken head type. SMH

yeah I was going to say that without the renovations it would be like the rest of new orleans... a crappy house with a mercedes-benz out front

They've done enough to make it a SB host in a couple of years

I am not against the Superdome, etc, but why would MB even consider putting their name on any type of stadium? I mean they are Mercedes Benz, why stoop down to the level of Wal Mart or Fedex?

What better way to advertise your product by sticking it's name on a stadium that is going to be hosting multiple championship events in the next couple years?

I dont get the whole naming rights thing anyway.Does having your name on a stadium really make people buy your product? I have never ever once bought a product or was influenced because their name was on a stadium.I know its to keep their name in the spotlight or whatever, but the companies that buy the naming rights are already so big and do so much advertising I dont see how this helps, but whatever
