Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
This is a long article that deals with what the author, Ben McGrath, calls the "concussion crisis" in the NFL. This is not a sound bite; you will not finish reading it in 3 minutes.
I think the title of the article is a bit of a hyperbole, but this is a serious look at a problem that is a real one and not a concocted one. This article is very well written and it is from a top-shelf publication. Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
Silly me, I thought this was a thread about how we all might pass the time if a work stoppage happens and there's no football (including most off-season moves)
|
Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
What was that?
I expected an article about what they players are doing since they can't work. |
Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
Well, if I had their money and there was work stoppage I'd be on a beach in Maui.

Me too! But to my surprise this thread looks more, shall I say .... interesting! |
Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
Seriously, I listened to a former player on NPR a few weeks back who is heading up a non-profit that researches head trauma cases of ex players. To hear him speak, it sounds like the more that is known about the dangers of football, the less likely the sport can continue as is. He mentioned guys like Andre Waters, who he thinks was depressed from the symptoms of several concussions, and then killed himself. And that was before this latest tragedy w/DAve Duerson.

Yeah the scary part is what we know right now regarding head injuries and their long term impact is probably just the tip of the iceberg. |

I definitely see the NFL putting more emphasis on tackling techniques such as wrapping the player up instead of putting a hit on the guy. |

This article has nothing to do with the subject matter but, is in keeping with the thread title. I, like SS and others thought the article was about......

Anyone accurately remember the story about how Darryl Grant jumped up and punched out a bus window that was full of scab players crossing a picket line?

Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage
Ive been working my butt off for the last 2 months or so. I wonder when a reporter will do some study about how much more productive the US work force is during the lockout like they do, but to the inverse, when march madness starts, etc.
That and ive been following a hell of alot more spring time baseball. |

^ I found this little gem while bouncing around a few sites and thought that it could be a way to spend some time during the debacle of the CBA. I realize it wasn't the initial intent of this thread but that's where it has morphed to.

Also, wait till he finds out they don't have a 40 yard event at the olympics. Being fast in the 40 is one thing, being fast in the 100m is another. |

I hope he makes the team and gets the chance to play in an MLS game. When I first came across this story I thought Ochocinco was just being a attention seeking moron, but it turns out he actually played soccer in high school and really loves to play the sport.
