Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Philadelphia Eagles franchise Michael Vick, give David Akers transition tag - ESPN
No big shocker here, we can make this our FA/FT thread. |

Little surprised about the Akers transition tag.
|
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Logan Mankins got the franchise tag by the Patriots (10 million I believe)
David Harris expected to be tagged by the Jets Woodley by the Steelers (unfortunately) I think Greenway will possibly get tagged by the Vikings, while Rice gets a transition tag |

Thanks for the link. Apparently it's something that hasn't been used very much in the recent past due to having a salary cap. I suppose we'll see it used more often in the future, but I'm sure the players don't care much for it. |

Yeah thats another thing the players can gripe about lol |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
These are all pretty meaningless now without free agency and a new CBA. I'm sure that a provision of the new agreement (whenever it happens) will be that all existing tags will be voided but most of those players will be 're-tagged' with whatever the new tags and terms are.

Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Do we even have anyone who is worth considering using a franchise or transition tag on?
|

Well transition tags don't require compensation, so technically we could get him. |

Carlos is worth a consideration. I wouldnt at this point, would like a long term deal with him. Lotta teams are putting them on cause of the uncertainty of a lack of a CBA. Once that is done, the tag will be removed and long term contracts will be signed with some of these guys. |

I am hoping for a quiet year of free agency. It may be quiet simply due to lack of CBA, but even if a deal was magically agreed upon months in advance of the season, I still want just a few under the radar signings. All of these guys are obviously big names. I wonder what Allen is thinking, what strategy he's taking, and what he's telling the danny. |

If we can keep him another year at a reasonable price, go for it. Better than paying him what he THINKS he's worth. |
what does a transition tag mean??
If I remember right a player gets the average salary of the top 10 players at his position (rather then the top 5 you see with the franchise tag) and the cost of not matching an offer is a pair of second round picks. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Lets give Haynesworth a poison pill contract. :D
Ok my understanding of Poison pill contracts is pretty much based on the corporate world, so I went to wikkipedia and read up on the poison pill contract idea in the Sports World and if I read it correctly these contracts are used to make sure that one player can not sign with other specific teams in a contract matching situation (e.g. if we were trying to sign Peyton Manning and the Colts had to match the contract we could put a clause in the contract stating that if Peyton Manning plays X number of games in any given year in the state of Indiana then the whole contract becomes guaranteed), that is what I got from it at least. So thats not going to help us out at all.....just plain Poison however may be useful! |

Is it me or do we never tag any of our players ?

the past thinking is why pay our own? when we could go out get much worse players and then set the max threshold for the top 5 players in the market |

We never have any great players lol. Moss won't get tagged he's not worth top 3 WR $ |

Not too surprised about Barber, he's a tough dude but has some wear & tear. Only reason it seems they would trade Choice is due to him wanting a deal they won't give him. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
Is it me or do we never tag any of our players ?
Franchise tag tenders wreck havoc on salary cap management. When you manage your cap like the Redskins do, you don't leave $15 million dollars lying around in free cap money to franchise a contributor for one season. Too much money to one player, particularly when you're rolling over $10-$15 million in dead cap every single season.

Yeah Barber looks done and I think Choice is a solid player, can Felix carry the load? I dont think so. I heard they will pursue Michael Bush also.. This was on ESPN Dallas |

Here's an updated list of upcoming free agents
WalterFootball.com: 2011 NFL Free Agents They have Soliai (Dolphins NT) listed as the second best tackle behind Ngata, and likely the best true 3-4 NT available in free agency. I really think we should look at this guy. With a lot of needs in other areas, and the emergence of Bryant later in the season, we could be set at NT. The Dolphins don't want to tag him because it would be too much money for them. I feel one of the reasons our 3-4 experiment failed, was the lack of a true NT. |

I would not oppose to the move of winning the bid war for him.. I don't think we will need to worry about cap salary issue, since we have BA, whom is master with cap salary.. Finally, something we won't need to worry about during off-seasons for a while! It doesn't look like the market for FS is good this year.. Which probably means we will need to draft one in top 3 rounds in the draft, assuming we trade down. |

Dude If only we could rewind the time and bring back Johnson and Davis, I actually thought we were going to the Super Bowl in 99. If it wasn't for that Romo like botched snap I think we could have played with STL. |
Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011
I really think Franchising Carlos Rogers #22 is a good move .. although he is frustrating as hell dropping balls left and right .. he is a damn good DB and the future of Rogers/Hall/Landry .. throwing in a little Kevin Barnes .. is bright .. don't let Carlos go, mark my words wherever he goes he will be a Pro Bowl DB
