Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Wonder if he's taking the stripper pole with him...

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
It is about time for CP to go. He did some good things and bad but over all i would say it was good. I will always remember his first play for us man I thought for sure after that play we would go to the big game.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I remember when Mark Brunell did the same thing, and it was only like 3 weeks after MB put his home up for sale, he was gone.
Portis during his best (2004, 2005) gave us what redskins football was all about. But sadly, the back part of his career (2006- now) showed all of what was wrong in Washington. No discipline, no committment, etc. before Mike Shanahan showed up. Best of luck to Portis. I wonder what team he will sign with. I imagine he will be a backup at his age and with his injury concerns. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
That's sad to me. CP has been more of a pain in the ass the last couple years than his play on the field was worth, but he seemed to get his act together this year under Shanny. I would love to see him stay as a 3rd down back, he is still as good as any in the nfl at blitz pickups.
If he's cut, I could see him in NE unless they use some of their many picks on RBs. They love to add vets that can fill in a limited role & CP could do that. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I've always likes cp but Denver got the better end of the deal IMO with champ.. Oh well hope the best for portis his time has come and gone..
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Didnt we also give up a second rounder in that deal?
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Now we have a greater draft need at another position. Ugh.
Plus, as freddy indicated, we've got big blocking shoes to fill. I wonder, who would buy a multimillion dollar house with a stripper pole? |

Yup. It was always the extra draft pick that irked me about that deal.
I'm sorry but why would anyone buy one without a stripper pole?
:laughing2 |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I want Portis back and I want him in the starting line up. If he goes down, Torain can step in.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
That 2nd rounder became Tatum Bell... so at least the pick didn't become a Hall of Famer or anything
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I don't know that he is gone. He lives in Miami. Probably doesn't need two homes. I doubt he'll be here more than one more year but theres a decent chance that we need him.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I heard somewhere that Portis owns several properties in the DMV area.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Could very well be nothing.
Shanahan is a fan of CP, and vice versa. If they can work out a deal that makes sense I can definitely see CP coming back. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Regardless of his outcome, I think we can all say his efforts over the years have been appreciated. I don't think it would come as a surprise to anyone if he's not here.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
CP is the best blocking back i have ever seen play the game i would really like to see him still picking up the rush next year. I just hope we can get some young guy to try and out CP in this area.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Doesn't he own a few houses? Not sure what's all in the area though.
If he's not here he might as well see if the Dolphins will invite him in. He can still spend his offseasons in Miami like he has been and he'd be back home. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I personally think CP will be back in a limited role in a new deal .... what's the risk of having him split carries with Torrain ? Not to mention Keiland Williams was a nice surprise ... all that being said it depends on whether we can get those cap numbers down ... CP provided some great Redskins moments in a time when there weren't too many .. HTTR ..
Clinton Portis - Best Blocking RB in the last 10 years hands down |

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
There is no roster spot for "blocking back".
Just running backs and fullbacks. Bye Clinton, you're an injury waiting to happen. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
The dude's not gone yet! Until there is an official word, he's still a Redskin and one of my favorites.
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
It normally is something. I do not see Portis in DC next season. After two back to back major injury plagued years, enough.
Its time for the future tandem running game to arrive in DC, Torain could possibly be one part of the solution. |

True, but Shanahan was then able to get Dre Bly with Bell and George Foster. I don't think well get anything back for Portis when Portis leaves here. |

Oh yeah, Dre Bly was one hell of an acquisition |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I think the biggest hurdle in getting Portis back here next year will be salary. His is scheduled to make something like 8.2 million or something, and i just dont see that happening. I also think that Portis believes he can still start in the league, so i would see him trying to land on at a running-back needy team.
Of Course, he could always be resigned at a low cost, but i think since he's 30, and doesnt have a long time left, he will try and get one last big contract, maybe one that is largely incentive based..like others have pointed out we look good at RB right now with Torain and Williams, so this will be interesting.... |

lol yeah I was scratching my head over that one |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I never reaaly understood some of the fans resentment towards Portis. Gibbs adored the guy and Shanahan had nothing but positive things to say. Did his rift with Zorn really piss you guys off thast much? His marginal attempts at comedy that unsavory? Why do some of you dislike CP so much (who by the way is our second all-time leading rusher)?
|
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I think the fans' tide started to turn on CP when he started getting lazy with practice habits and committment, and then started throwing everybody under the bus. That and the fact that his attitude seemed to worsen each year since 2007, along with the fact that his play steadily declined each year, and i think after that the fans kind of had it with him. If he was producing on the field, i think it would have been different. But he trash talked and bad mouthed everything, and then sucked on the field.
His act wore thin and I really believe he was such a model player last season because he finally came across a coach who wouldnt take his shit. Shanahan got rid of him once before in Denver after threatening to be a hold-out, and Portis knew that his old coach would do the same thing again if he got under his skin... |

We got a stud. They got a stud. They dumped two duds for a slightly better dud. Of course Matt Millen being a moron helps. Fact is that even though Denver screwed the pooch, Denver gave themselves a better chance to improve their team beyond just getting Bailey. We got Portis, but denyed ourselves the ability to have a chance to help our team in addition to Portis. |

Matty: That is the good news... The bad news is that Tatum Bell was selected by ... Mike Shanahan. |

Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
Is it that hard to just say the 2nd rounder didn't work out for them?
I think I already said something about screwing the pooch.
Regardless, the strategy, for lack of a better word, employed by the Skins FO was bad regardless of the end result. A straight-up trade would have been feasible, but they had to give up the pick. I already said Denver screwed the pooch with regards to what they actually got. But, Denver's strategy was better. They gave themselves more chances to get a good player out of their duds. They weren't successful, but they gave themselves more chances. |
Re: Portis Puts Home Up For Sale
I guess it was too hard.
