Offseason Shopping
This may have a serious impact on teams looking to draft a QB and change the whole outlook of the draft.

re: Offseason Shopping
Well it probably won't have much of an impact w/o a new CBA. I can certainly see San Fran making a push for Kolb
|
re: Offseason Shopping
I heard the eagles wanted a 1st round pick for Kolb.I don't think he's worth that.maybe a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

I'd think the Texans deal for Schaub a few years back would be the best precedent. They swapped 1st rd picks and got an additional 2nd out of it. Something along those lines would be fair value. |
re: Offseason Shopping
Well, we won't be in a position to grab him. :D
|
re: Offseason Shopping
Kolb isn't that great anyway, I'd be pretty upset if we traded for him

Definitely agree, no more Eagle QBs. Keep our picks and rebuild this team with new faces and demeanor. |
re: Offseason Shopping
Since we traded the the e-girls the inflated price of a #2 & #3 for #5, then, don't you think the e-girls would want more of the farm for corn on the Kolb?
|
re: Offseason Shopping
I actually have Kolb on my Madden Franchise; foresight I think not.
I wouldn't mind having him or any other QB of his age a caliber but the price would be too steep and we have way more needs than just a QB. |

I don't know if I can change the title of this thread but if one of the moderators can I think it should be changed to "Offseason Shopping".
Just found this link on ESPN. Source: Titans want Vince Young Trade |
re: Offseason Shopping
Bruce Allen, "Fool me once shame on you....."
|
Re: Offseason Shopping
Just say "No" Allen and Snyder.
|
Re: Offseason Shopping
Lol guys don't worry. It's more likely the Redskins sign Peyton Manning than make a trade for another Eagles QB.

Re: Offseason Shopping
Thanks whoever changed the thread title!!!

Source: Titans want Vince Young Trade
I keep on hearing how Al Davis is smitten with the prospect of adding Young to the Raidahs. Personally he seems like he'd be a great fit in Minnesota especially if they work in a lot of bootleg play action. That same strategy allowed Dunn and Ducket to run wild while Vick was in Atlanta despite the fact that Vick was a terrible passer at the time. Giving Peterson more room to run can only be a good thing, at least from Minnesota's perspective. |
Re: Offseason Shopping
Champ Bailey back in DC anybody? New regiem maybe posible... I think he'll be cheaper than Namdi and would complement the core group if we can't resign Carlos.

Re: Offseason Shopping
The Eagles will regret keeping Vick over Kolb. Vick will never take them beyond where they went this year. IMO, they should have tried to move Vick as his stock will never be higher than it is now,
|
Re: Offseason Shopping
Vick is a free agent, can't really move him unless they NBA style extend then trade him. I wouldn't be surprised if his shelf life of the success that he saw for most of this year is somewhat short but who knows.

Totally disagree. It was his first year starting and look how good he was. He gets a full off season ( if there is one) of camps and so forth, to work on his game. I'd expect him to get better. He can be as good as he wants, if he keeps his nose clean. |

I think there is a reverse side to that coin though. For 3 years no defense in the NFL had to face a player like Vick (Young wasn't/isnt as talented as Vick is) but won't teams eventually start to "figure out" or remember how to defend him more efficiently again? Looking at his stats from the beginning to the end of the year (excluding the game against us of course) there was a drop off in performance, not a huge one but certainly a noticeable drop off. |

Vick is comfortably better than Kolb at the current moment, but they lost to a bad Vikings team and they lost, in part, because of dreadful offense -- at the QB position. They win that game and the next one...and we're probably talking about an all-Pennsylvania SB with the Eagles owning that first round bye and such.
I don't think the Eagles expect Vick to save them from all their other team flaws, only to be the best quarterback he can be. I think the vertical passing is always going to be there and that Vick fits this offense much better than he ever fit the Atlanta offense, but I also don't think Vick is capable of playing 16-18 games or holding a starting job for 18 games in 2012. I think he just has too many bad habits for NFC DCs to prey on. |

You are leaving out a very important part of the equation. In Atlanta Vick was a run first guy. He locked onto one receiver and if it wasn't there or wasn't an easy throw he would pull it down and use his legs to improvise. In Philly, he has shown that he can be a dual threat, running when he needs to, but also using the pocket a lot more, moving up and making throws. Even with good accuracy. That is apart of his game he did not have in Atlanta. Big difference. IMO he is going to be harder to defend against now more than he ever was in Atlanta. |

Vick is still a run first guy but he hides it better now than in the past. Vick is a nice regular season QB but when the playoff come around and the defenses tighten up Vick shows that he cant get it done. |

I think they're in a position where they almost have to keep Vick, even if the end of the year didn't go so well. But, I agree w/you that they will regret letting Kolb walk, it that's what happens. Who will backup Vick? The iggles are always financially savvy & frugal, but w/Vick as your starter you are really going to need a good backup. I say that for 2 reasons; he gets hurt every year & is likely to get seriously hurt enough to miss sevral weeks, or he will fumble/throw picks when a good defense has his number. I could see him getting benched in favor of Kolb next year regardless of injury. If I were A. Reid I would want Kolb on the sideline. I know Kolb wants to start & I guess they're pre-empting a qb controversy by looking to trade him. Or maybe they're setting the price way high so that no one bites, yet they can tell him they tried. |
Re: Offseason Shopping
How can Vick not get it done in the playoffs? You all said he was a worse QB in Atlanta but he took them to the NFC title game. He beat Brett Farve at Green Bay. I do believe Vick can get it done in the playoffs.

I would agree that he is less of a run first QB now, but I still don't think he will ever be a QB who can sit back there and win alot of games from the pocket. I will say that he clearly has improved his accuracy and touch but if (and thats a sizeable if) you can contain him in the pocket than he doesnt scare me much more than any NFL QB. Good points in your post by the way |

I was thinking about this over the weekend .. although it would be cool to see him back in DC I fear that we are thinking of Champ Bailey 2002' edition |
Re: Offseason Shopping
Not that I would do it, but I trust Kolb will be pretty good. This is not news, but Andy Reid has a pretty good eye for talent and most importantly how to use that talent. They got rid of DM b/c they thought Kolb was better than him. It just so happened that MV got on the field and they couldn't take him out.
I think Kolb will be very good on the right team. On our team the OL would get him killed. |

Granted he is not the Champ of 2002, but the 2011 Champ would still be an improvement to our secondary if no more than just as nickel or as a rotational depth player. He has more of an incentive to come here than anywhere else I would think since he used to play here. If it doesn't cost a lot I like the idea. |
Re: Offseason Shopping
Hopefully Champ can have a career track similar to Charles Woodson. I know he is a big fan of Bob Slowick, maybe that will play in as a factor to his return. Not to mention Vinny is gone. I know he had some personal issues in DC but maybe he has matured since then.
I'd also like to see us make a run at Vincent Jackson |
Re: Offseason Shopping
how can anyone take this thread seriously when it starts out with bring back Bailey? he left because he didnt want to be here. and is definitely on the down side of his career

The fanbase was subjected to such extreme clownish and idiotic behavior from Redskins management for such an extended period of time that invariably many smart and loyal fans became stupefied without even knowing it. |
Re: Offseason Shopping
I'd take Champ Bailey back...at the right price. I think the comparison to him and Charles Woodson is plausible. Would be an upgrade over Los and might cost virtually the same.
|
Re: Offseason Shopping
Dmek, he was traded because the management chose to pay Lavar Arrington over Bailey. If we would have paid him top dollar he would of stayed here. He didn't leave because of free will, he was traded.
I think you are undervaluing talent if you think he has slipped that far. |
Re: Offseason Shopping
^^ I think he wanted out and, unless we payed him double his free market value, he was not coming back. Yeah, we traded him but only 'cause if we didn't we going to get nothing for him.

Can we trade CP and get both Champ and a 2nd rounder? |

Not happening. What Shanahan says about personnel is law. He is the team president. (snickers at the one fool on this board who thinks Shanahan takes a laissez-faire attitude towards snatching his guys) |

Nice tie in to economic principles! I wonder if they have a Shanny 10 Drafting Commandments in his office or the war room during the draft. |
