2011 Senior Bowl Week

We can talk about everything leading up to the game, and the game itself here.

Sounding like Ponder may not play

Pouncey and Clayborn to sit out as well

skinsfaninok 01-23-2011 12:06 PM

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

I always thought it's a bush league move not to play.. Seems like guys are scared to show any weakness before the draft imo

IrMitchell 01-23-2011 12:30 PM

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

Clayborn sucks, Pouncey was noticeably much worse than his brother and will continue to live off his name, Ponder won't be a Redskin regardless of playing the Senior Bowl or not.

I want to see guys like, Cameron Jordan, Ryan Kerrigan, Jeremy Beal, Drake Nevis, Phil Taylor, Greg Jones, Casey Matthews, Von Miller, etc. on defense. All whom have a chance of getting drafted by us.

Jake Locker, Andy Dalton, Titus Young, Austin Pettis, and many others on offense.

I totally agree with you. I am looking forward to seeing Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick at QB. Could we get one of these guys in the 2nd round or if we had a 3rd, get one of them in the 3rd.

Andy Dalton is the sleeper of this draft watch

Locker showing up to play shows some stones! Normally top rated senior QB's skip the game. Anxious to see how he does in practices and the game. Supposedly Bruce Allen is there with head of player personnel...but no Shannys.

I like that, read that in RI. Not saying that I know why, but I hope the Shannys are letting the scouting dept. do its job, let Allen get a personal feel for some players if possible & then the Shans get involved as they start to build the board. Also might be part of their strategy to maintain a low profile for now.

One of our scouts spoke to Stanzi apparently

Von Miller's stock is rising possibly as high as #2 to Denver, adding to the Quinn speculation here (Akeem Ayers is also rising up our board, but remember it's very early still)

There is speculation that Shanny really likes Gabbert, anything on that SS?

Have not heard anything specific

anyone standing out? Maybe rising besides Miller?

Heard Kerrigan and Kaepernick looked pretty solid. That's all I really know right now. I'm not there and my tv here isn't getting a feed from down there so I'm getting my info second-hand

Cool man thanks

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

After watching the first practice here's who stood out for me and also who disappointed.

Good:
Vincent Brown
Titus Young - WOW!
Ricky Stanzi
Ryan Kerrigan - Just what I expected, this guy's a beast.
Colin Kaepernick
Anthony Castonzo
Quinton Carter
Da'Norris Searcy - Very very impressed.

Bad:
Austin Pettis
Casey Matthews
Jake Locker - Stanzi had better throws.. He'll turn it around soon enough.
Mason Foster - I was expecting him to be much better in coverage.
Jeremy Beal
Eric Hagg

Overall it's kind of tough to make any statements like I just did, so don't go crazy.

SmootSmack 01-24-2011 06:03 PM

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

So I had heard that Young looked pretty awesome. But as for Stanzi, he was apparently checking down a lot and missing lots of open receivers deep. That true?

Titus Young was sick, was the most noticeable player today.

As for Stanzi, yeah he was dumping the ball off short, but he didn't miss any open receivers deep that I can remember.. It was Locker who was doing that.

skinsfaninok 01-24-2011 06:36 PM

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

Young was a stud at Boise, no shock there.. Locker needs to have a good outing more than any QB imo

If the Skins want Miller imo they could wait til the 2nd or acquire an early 3rd and target Dontay Moch.

I didn't mean missing as in he was throwing incompletions. I mean as in he didnt even attempt to throw it deep

I think with a few years developing as a backup, Colin Kaepernick could be solid. He has size, speed, smarts, and arm strength.

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week

Hear that most teams see Kaepernick as a hybrid/wildcat type of player

redskins also spoke with Locker, Carimi, Moffitt, Casey Matthews, and Greg Jones.

I hear their preference is to get an outside linebacker through free agency (once again, the name that comes up is Woodley) and then get help inside through the draft. But the CBA could put a damper on that.

For what it's worth Ive also heard they're seriously considering trading out of the first round. I think it's too early to really know for sure though

Trade out? Wow I can see trade down, does that mean trade the 10th pick for a current NFL player? Or just load up on picks?

You would think that the Steelers would pony up to pay a guy like Woodley.
Any word on Matt Roth? The Browns are switiching schemes and you think he would be available at a decent price or maybe even a player swap w/ Andre Carter.

I'd give them the 1st just to avoid Cam Newton

Honestly i'd like just to trade down and collect more draft picks.

I've seen you make a few bold statements like this. I'd love to know how exactly you heard this?

Trading/Not re-signing Woodley would be nearly the equivalent of letting Brian Orakpo walk in free agency.. These things just don't happen. Especially when Farrior and Harrison are reaching the end of their careers.

As for the Redskins trading out of the first round? How on earth does this stuff leave the front office?

*I apologize if you truly do know something that every other Redskin fan doesn't, but this seems like a bit of a stretch.

Yes it does, but unless he's best friends with a Scout/Coach/Owner/GM, these things wouldn't be tossed around that quickly.

But oh well, I appreciate your input about Woodley, that would be probably the best off season acquisition I've seen in a long time by the Redskins.

I think Colin Kaepernick will be a starter in 2 to 3 seasons. Today he ran the offense underneath the Center and did well enough to get good reviews. This guy is smart, has his degree and got it before finishing his fourth year.

I think we could get him if we had a third round pick. The Combine makes players like Kaepernick climb up the draft boards because they interview well and do fairly good with the field events.

The Steelers are a bit notorious for not paying people much. I'm sure with a SB appearance, everyone's asking price will go up. And with Dick LeBeau possibly leaving, I don't think getting a guy like Woodley is completely out of the question.

Great thread. I haven't gotten into it yet due to the disappointing season. This gets me excited for what's to come though.
